Australia is a more casual, laid-back culture , hence the use of first names. Also, we are not into the class system and restriction that other countries are guided/ conditioned by. We judge a person by their personality rather than the family they came from, money or status that they have etc. Regarding friendship, yes we are easy going about that on a casual level but with long-term friendships we are more particular. One of the values of this country is 'mateship'. ie. we are all in this together, we help one another and this is especially true in hard/extreme times. Another value is 'a fair go' ie. that everyone should have a chance/opportunity to achieve beyond where they are now.
You can absolutely tell when people aren’t really your friend nor your enemy. They are always fairly Polite & don’t Stir you Up. Real friends will definitely Joke both with you & about you & teasing is a given. BUT It’s all in good fun. Introducing yourself as Mr or Mrs Smith is the Epitome of Snotty. Michelle Smith is appropriate for a formal intro or simply Michelle in a more casual setting. I’m 72years of age & I Love my Country.
Not sure if it's rare or not but ePrescriptions for medication still blow my mind and they are not that new in Sydney. My old doctor was old fashioned and after he retired my new doctor sent me an eScript and I felt lost.
Just on the school uniform issue. Uniforms in Australia are not an attempt at class equality. They are for sun protection. The clothing is manufactured to a minimum SPF rating, and the uniform includes a hat. Kids that forget their hats aren’t allowed outside during recess and lunch. Skin cancer is still a major killer here. School uniforms are personal protective equipment.
Wine bottles with screw-top lids came about because the French objected to Australian wine and refused to export corks to Australia. So, screw-top lids were developed (and goon bags, of course).
My understanding getting rid of cork was to avoid contamination from the microbes in it… hence why dickheads used to taste test in restaurants prior to drinking the whole bottle.😂
Analysis paralysis. To what end. It is just our culture. Not 'wierd'. "If you compare yourself to others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself." from Desiderata poem.
Only 17% of transactions are cash in Australia now. During covid lockdown many businesses stopped taking cash to prevent physical handling of cash. It turned out to be really good for businesses because it simplified their bookkeeping and got rid of balancing the till.
Especially during COVID time there were very few places accepting cash - just carried on like that afterwards. Cash is so grubby. Makes sense not to have cash and food in the same place
If your on youtube or any influencer sights .take note america has supplied arms over and over to israel. The only thing goverments understand is loss of income .so to this end .im asking everyone with a conscience to unsubscribe to any and all american influencers
Australian public schools have varied multiple times on uniforms My older brothers used to have to wear uniforms with ties But when i went they changed the rules and no uniforms as some families couldn't afford them Its changed again as my niece has to wear uniforms again because cost of clothes people wearing Trying to out do each other hundreds of dollars in clothes as desiger brands As far as im aware private schools never stopped having uniforms they've always been a requirement for them I was similar to this guy we couldn't afford clothes always from second hand stores But i personal didn't care as it teaches you to be grateful for the simplest things in life Also you learnt who where you real friends as they liked you not what dollar value you was worth Beside it makes you tough and their nice clothes looked pretty ordinary cover in blood when they had big mouth that needed shutting They soon learnt money wont save them even threatened to sue my parents I laught and said to them and head masters you think my parents got something to sue for Why do you think im dressed like this and you started it i finished Nothing ever happened and most times they got in trouble for picking on under privileged students Cheers mate 🦘🇦🇺👍
More places are not accepting cash these days. However, as legal tender cash is acceptable by default unless they make it clear before you consume anything that it is not, and this usually involves a prominent sign being put up.
Those that don't accept cash usually have signs at the entrance. My local fish'nchippers are the opposite they will only take cash. The reason that restaurants stopped taking cash was during Covid it was less risk to their staff.
I had a bloke on the street on the cadge for a bit of money. I replied that I no longer carried cash, and he whipped out his phone and opened his cash app!
Yes, In Australia there are a lot of places that do NOT accept cash. Also, the banks here are removing cash from many of their branches. One thing he missed was that most of the states here have digitised their driver's licences so you can now have it as a secure app on your phone.
Really, Aussie here, I usually use my card but I always have some cash in my purse, I don’t know why. I like both. Had my eyes tested yesterday for new glasses, all basic info I filled in on line, so when I got there, they had lots of info, I’m 70 and they called me by my first name, which feels more comfortable and then had my eyes tested. Saved a lot of time instead of telling them every detail verbally. Longest part was me deciding on new glasses frames lol.
Hes does some good videos on Australia. He just did one about whats dangerous in Australia that know one knows. I'll leave it that for you to find out by watching it. Its not what ever you would expect.
