Guys this was absolute quality. What a beautiful way to showcase real life for the Tunisian locals. Such warm people. Working with your hands and in a community sounds like the way humans are meant to live. Where you see direct fruits of your labour. True craftsmanship. Something so beautiful about the way people in rural communities live. You captured it beautifully and respectfully. All the feels in this one.

Ahhh thanks you two! Honestly, we were in our element making this video and this is really the type of content we are passionate about making. Real life and real people. You know you've made a video you're proud of when you want to watch it back like everyday to remember the feeling of being there and meet the people all over again!! Watching Arafat talk about being satisfied in life and what you have brings a tear to our eyes every time

This has to be the most original, most heart-warming tourist vlog in Tunisia I have seen, this really shows a totally different view of our country, and it made me miss the old days where everyone was happy and satisfied without technology.
@courtsandmeeks
@courtsandmeeks Год назад
Hi Zachary, you're right in a way. People live a lot more simple life in some of these towns and they are so happy despite not having much. We are so passionate about meeting people and connecting with locals to share their stories in places we visit, so we're glad we were able to do that in this video!

Well that was lovely! What a sense of community, something that is so sadly lacking these days, especially in the UK. Those people may not be financially rich, but seem to have a quality of interpersonal relationships that many of us can only dream of. The Tunisian warmth of character really shone through in this video. Oh, and as for lablebi, I personally went out of my way to avoid it when I was in Tunisia last week, I just can't bear soggy bread! 😆
@courtsandmeeks

Thank you Andy, really makes us happy to hear the video came across well and showed how lovely the Tunisians we meet are! Yes it does make you think about the UK in comparison and maybe a lack of community. Ha I think Courts will think the same although I would 100% have it again!

There are hundreds of vlogs made by visitors to our beloved country, but you guys have been just fabulous and different ,and maybe the best for people looking for a valuable content, the real human experience and that cheerful touch with locals, and btw in our south region it's in the veins to be humble, kind and generous, specially with strangers, Thank you and wish you all the best.

Hey John, hope you're doing well this week? Arafat our guide was the nicest and most humble person, always willing to give his time and knowledge - one of the most selfless people we have ever met. Can't wait until we can meet him and his family again on another trip. I have definitely tried one of the shisha pipes before, we actually have one ourselves that we bought in turkey and carry in the van for the odd occasion. No hard drugs in it though - just mollases (like sugary flavoured tobacco). So glad you enjoyed seeing the different culture and meeting all the local people with us this week. Take care of yourself John and speak soon!

Has changed here a lot, the mountains are our favourite places though we live nearer the coast but not touristy. Tunisia reminds us in many ways of Morocco. Not surprising as part of the Mahagreb region's. People especially. Have us welling up many times with the overflow of warmth that we see and experience. The carpeter and Arafat/family.....Classic. Beautiful hearts and minds. We are so happy for you both. May you continue in the love that you have and experience more joy wherever you go. Love from us both Cath and Keith. She travelled with her kids here in the 80's first with an ambulance (converted) then with a 29 seater Bedford Duple bus. Atlas mountains, everywhere. Thank you for making a great and genuine video about my home town Kebili (I currently live in Tunis). It was heartwarming to see how you connected with locals. Their hospitality is exceptionnal and they would easily share their food and homes with you. I always believe that traveling the world and knowing people from different cultures makes us realize that we are all the same, if all people were able to travel the world I guarantee it would make this planet miles better and we would forget something called war forever. Just to clarify some points about Kebili : - It's not a rural town, it's a city, it's even the center of the state (governorate). - I see no point in using the word muslim in the title, it's like saying a christian town in Italy. - About the cafés, yes as you mentionned in the comments it's still regarded as not that appropriate for women to go to cafés in some rural towns, but in Kebili there's an increasing number of mixed cafés. Men's cafés are those small and popular ones. - I saw in one of your shorts that you ate Mtabga in the old town of Kebili, I was hoping you would include the historical old town in your video because it's so charming and surrounded with thousands of palm trees, it's the true heart where everything started, but I guess you enjoyed your time there. Thank you again for showing this beautiful side in your video, and thank you for being genuine, warm and lovely!
@courtsandmeeks
@courtsandmeeks Год назад
Hi Jihed, thank you again for your long comment. You take the time to share your thoughts with us and we appreciate it. We completely and whole heartedly understand why you may not feel it was necessary to iinclude Muslim town in the title of the video but let me explain why. You will know that in some parts of the world there is a big misconception and misjudgement caused by negative media about the Muslim faith and muslim people in particular. By including 'muslim town' in the title of our video and showing a welcoming, happy and smiling man on the thumbnail picture we hope to instantly make people question their misbeliefs about the people of Muslim faith. Kebili is a majority muslim town in what we would consider a rural area (compared to what we're used to back home anyway) hence why this felt appropriate. Definitely not trying to single people out or in any way negatively portray the muslim faith, actually the opposite, we want to unite people and show that we are all human, despite what belief system you are assigned to :) We did visit the old town of kebili and it was lovely but also very broken down due to people taking the stones to rebuild new houses in new kebili (so we were told by the cafe owner and poetry lady there). So there wasn't much left there that visually would have made it easy to tell a story on video. We had so much footage from the town and the hot spring that we decided to have the old town experience just for ourselves. Thanks again for your support and comments, it means a lot to us that you would take time to share knowledge with us here! We are in Tunis now staying in an Airbnb until Saturday to get work done actually. We want to go into the centre of the city to explore and make a video about how it compares to the south and towns like Kebili so our viewers can see both sides of the country. Do you have recommendations of places to visit? Of course we will visit the Medina but where else can we see real local life?
@JihedBenHammadi
@JihedBenHammadi Год назад
@@courtsandmeeks Thanks for your answer, keep up the great work. As for Tunis City Centre, besides of Medina, there are its surroundings like Beb Elkhadhra Souk Sidi Elbahri, Beb Souika, Beb Jdid... There you will see the daily life of simple locals. Also the Habib Bourguiba avenue and its branches like Avenue de Paris, Rue de Rome, I recommend a small plaza called Place de la Monnaie near Rue de Rome, very charming, from there I recommend going to a historical pastry owned by an Italian family called Patisserie Garza, top ingredients (I strongly suggest trying their Frangipane), you have to go there before 11AM as everything gets quickly bought and after that mostly you won't find anything. Also you can go to Lafayette. Edit : be noticed that you'll stumble upon hasslers in the Medina and even in Avenue de France, they'll pretend to show you and help but they'll take you to their friends shop.

Another great video ! you guys are so adorable and it seems like everyone there likes you Speaking about Cafés, I just wanted to clarify that it is not that women are not allowed to go to the cafés, but these cafés like the one you stayed in are just the typical "manly" cafés (men will be smoking and talking outloud and yelling "heyo !! bring me a coffee here !" and playing cards etc, you won't find a separation between smokers and non-smokers for example, because simply we're men, we don't really care about how fancy chairs are and how elegant the decor is, just wanna a bit of cafeine before heading to our work. There are other fancy cafés in Tunisia for couples and families and group of friends and these ones are looking much better (and most of the time even cleaner), that's where you will find sofas instead of plastic chairs and a separation between smokers and non-smokers and fancy spoons and cups and lexury service (ofcourse 1 coffee will cost you the double or triple comparing to "manly" cafés) And that man who guided you seems to be a very kind and wise man, god bless him and his family.
