I remember i was fortunate enough that i was taken on a family trip to a resort in the Bahamas, and this was in 2008 or 09, I was just a kid and I remember talking to a local and member of the staff she brought up how much she loved Britney Spears. I always knew she was a big deal in north America but it shocked me at the time because the staff worker had essentially related me being a north American to Britney Spears.

And it was released may 16 2000 and sold over 1.3 million copies in just one week and between that britney was busy doing other things like promoting, touring on her crazy 2k tour and doing Photoshoots and interviews and doing SNL and then she did her MTV live the next day OMG. And so much more and y'all she was only 18 back then. She was such a workaholic. She was nonstop doing stuff. Damn. The female MJ!!

I was made fun of from my cousins for loving her at 5 years old, they called me an Oreo. I stop dancing and not being my true self around family because someone yelled out "you dance like a white girl" again when I was 5. Now I'm about to be 28 and I'm still obsessed. I’m amazed at how down to earth she was! She didn’t identify with all the outside stuff (clothes, hair etc). She was so real and just herself and I’ve noticed how in so many interviews ppl tried to question her confidence and almost put that doubt in her head yet that didn’t phase her (at least then). It makes me really angry how her light - her true self was stolen from her :(

It's much harder to achieve high album sales. And don't bring trashy facts with youtube views. VEVO and even RU-vid didn't exist during Britney's prime. I used to be a big fan of hers and wanted to look like her as a teenager. Not anymore! She basically sold her soul to the industry, and made that "baby voice" her signature singing, when naturally she had a decent voice. Her image is what sold her records, and she ran laughing to the bank. I don't feel sorry for her, started partying hard, went the extra lengths to shed that good girl image. I feel like our mentality back in the 90’s and early 00’s were just really diffent in a good way. I feel like it wasn’t clouded with all the negative thoughts we have in our days right now. When britney said “I get nervous but I can’t wait to get outside” it’s a different kind of nervous that stars today have, the likes of anxiety and such. Maybe we were less judgmental and more accepting before? Idk.
Hmm if that’s true then why were the Dixie chicks blacklisted for calling out Bush? So many stars get away with scrutinizing Trump. I think there was a simplicity about the early 00’s. I would say we did not have all the answers and that was okay. Maybe because celebrities are all over social media and they’re not hard to reach whereas back in the day, celebrities were mysterious. You wanted to know everything about them but couldn’t.
A’isha I was actually thinking about that situation yesterday. I noticed the media were very disciplined back in the days there weren’t a lot of scandalous stories apart from a few which made headlines for DAYS i.e. Janets boob flash. Nowadays I don’t think anything accounts for being scandalous unless it’s way out there, like nudity or murderer and such. Maybe when we were disciplined by a higher power (I.e. bush at the DC’s) that wasn’t such a bad thing? I feel like we needed control, it gave us some sort of tranquility and composure apart from the chaotic mind-filled issues we have nowadays. What do you think?
When I was 11 and gay as hell, Britney’s album has so many editions and when I wanted to buy every single edition, my mom said “You already have that Britney album, why do you want to buy same album again?” And I said “Mom, there’s additional bonus CD!” So I lost chance to buy some editions.
Britney Spears like Christina Aguilera rank among the best female artists in the late 1990's, and 2000's. Way before Lady Gaga came into the scene in the 2010's, she ranked among the best female artists in the era. It is not surprising that even one of the greatest of all time Madonna paid a tribute to her and Aguilera. I hope she and Aguilera and Madonna and Gaga make new music for the 2020's. Britney Spears was a super star. Other amazing female super star musicians I have to give credit would be Great Britains Spice Girls from the 1990's and late 2000's.
