Urban sprawl is disgusting. I've driven all over the USA and Florida has some of the worst drivers. The roads are generally nice but people will randomly and suddenly make u-turns right into a fastlane, I had never seen so many people running red lights after just a brief stop, and often people will suddenly change lanes without using a signal. I don't know if it's because there are so many visitors from other places that are confused combined with so many retired people or what but the two weeks I was down there I was about ran into about a dozen times by people suddenly making random moves. Los Angeles traffic is notorious but they seem to be better drivers, drive fast when they can, and seemed to be in much more control of their cars!

Generally everywhere in America houses are wood-framed because wood is so plentiful and much cheaper, but thousands of years of settlement and expansion in England has made it more rare and expensive. It does make me wonder what the frame of the house in England is, the keys even brick houses in America are framed in wood and then bricked over the wood frame, only on the outside. I understand very historical houses would be completely made out of rock and brick, but what about any new construction in England? What do they use for a basic middle-sized family house for the frame?

Good job! It would be nerve wracking to drive on the “wrong” side of the road while exiting an airport - they’re busy and confusing places to drive, generally. Hope the rest of your time here in the US goes well.

I moved to Florida from Belfast in 1994. I remember that initial heart in my mouth, first time driving on the right hand side, terror. Took around 6 months to really feel comfortable driving.

Great driving! When My husband and I were in AUS and driving for the first time on opposite side…my husband and I were constantly arguing (he was driving). I was a nervous reck! Much more difficult than anticipated..lol.

Building- Most new houses in Florida are built with Block. Some are Wood framed but not as common as it used to be. Brick building is rather rare in the U.S. today. Brick is expensive, slow and not as rugged as Block.

That was so much fun, it really must be strange to drive in another country, I’ve never done that before. I loved it when Lia said to Joel “ gettin’ a little comfortable there, can we do 10 and 2”. Hysterical. 😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️

This gave me such a giggle! I’d be saying the same things on the opposite side of the road lol! My favorite is seeing your reactions to what I’m used to and hearing your lingo: “The boot” aka trunk and signaling for a right turn - I totally enjoy the culture shone from the other point of view. You guys are too neat with your content. Welcome to America! From Oregon

This reminds me of when I lived in England, and at times would have to sit and wait for a car to pass to remember which side of the road I needed to turn onto. Also, ALWAYS turned on my windshield wipers instead of the turn signal at roundabouts…they were on opposite sides of what I was used to.

I rode all over England and Wales on a motorcycle. In a car, you at least have a clue to which side of the road you need to be on, but on a motorcycle it's easy to wander into the right lane without even noticing it. Good thing British drivers are very well trained, or I wouldn't be here today.

So much fun you guys! I liked the comments about Joel trying to use his left foot from being used to driving a manual. I learned to drive on a manual but have mostly driven automatics since. Out of the 30 or so cars I've had in my life time, I've only had 3 manuals. I still enjoy driving them, though, because once you learn, you never forget. Anyway, when I started driving an automatic, it was natural for me to use my left foot for the brake and my right foot for the accelerator. That is not the recommended way, but I've been driving that way for 55 years.

Had the same experience three years ago, driving on the left in Melbourne, Australia. Did OK, city intersections and roundabouts were the most confusing. After driving all day on the Great Ocean Road, I was an old pro.
