Jamaal Charles from Texas ran 4.41 seconds in the 40 yard dash (2008). His best 100 meters was 10.18, a time that could've qualified for the 2004 Olympic finals. Jeff Demps and Jacoby Ford both ran 10.01 (2008/2009). Trindon Holliday ran a 4.27 40 and a 10.0 100 (2007). These guys might be faster if they kept training for track but most of them have to give it up early in college to focus on football, basically gaining muscle (weight) to break tackles, hold onto the ball and as extra padding. Some of them might actually be faster than world class sprinters over 40 yards.

@RealzFoSho
@RealzFoSho 7 месяцев назад
Yards per second is significantly lower for the 40 vs a 100 meter (109 yards) due to the acceleration eating up so much of the distance of the 40. A runner is typically not up to "cruising" speed until the 25-30 yard mark. Some of the bigger fellas might not even hit cruising speed by the 40 yard mark and would typically begin to slow before they reach 100, but those guys putting up around 4.40 in the 40 would be just about flat out over a full 109 yards. A runner who can do a 40 in around 4.40 would be expected to be around 10 seconds over 100 meters (or 109 yards). A high level runner will typically run the remaining 59 yards in around 1.5 seconds longer than it took them to do the initial 40. That is an average and different runners will have different results based on stride, leg length, and their ability to accelerate, but 1.5 seconds is a good number to use when doing a rough guess. 40 yard time x 2 + 1.5 = 109 time.

Now that Xavier has the new record at 4.21 (adjusted), we need to get Usain Bolt back to the Combine to match it. @psymar
@psymar 7 месяцев назад
For comparison, 40 yards is 36.576 meters. When Usain Bolt ran 9.58, his first 30 meters was 3.79, and his first 40 meters was 4.64. So meters 30-40 were 0.85 seconds; linearly scaling this 10 meter interval to 6.576 meters gives 0.56 seconds. Adding back in the first 30 meters gives Usain Bolt a 40 yard dash time of 4.34. Of course with his height and build he has more of an advantage on meters 36.576-100, but it's food for thought. I could add that this is including reaction time, so maybe the 40 yard dash times aren't including that. Also, DK Metcalf, wide receiver for the Seahawks, actually ran in the US Olympic trials for the 100m. Put up a 10.77 -- tying one of the actual sprinters. And I should add he's 236 lbs -- 30 lbs more than Bolt who's already considered big for a sprinter.

A 4.3 time is nowhere close to a 10 second 100 meter.

You guys are completely ignorant of how fast these guys are running. Please get a general idea of what an average time for each position is before you react to a video that requires the knowledge. Without that knowledge you have no context on what you’re watching.

Usain Bolt was at an NFL event a few years ago and there was a 40 yard dash event you could do just for fun and he ran a 4:22.

No combine when Bo Jackson ran, but he was clocked at 4.13 at his pro day (not a typo)--and he weighed 235lbs. The big boys running in the 5's are over 320lbs and some over 350lbs.

Bo Jackson's kinda controversial. No one knows if that's true.

Fastest 40-yard (36.576 m) dash in NFL is 4.18 back in 1995 and Deion Sanders "prime Time"back in his day was fast also his record was 4.21 these big fellas that are like 270 pounds + running sub 6 seconds is pretty amazing tbh

Don't believe that 4.21 stuff.

11.7-11.8 100 m times are estimated equivalent of 4.9-5.0 seconds 40 yard dash.

You guys should look at calvin austin III's 40 yd dash and slow it down. They said he ran a 4.32 but if you look at the time when he crosses the line he really ran a 4.03 making him the fastest man in the nfl (possibly world usain bolt ran a 4.19 for context)

Bo Jackson did not attend the combine but he was timed by scouts at a tryout at around 4.12. No one has eclipsed that since.
