Hello Buzzfeed! Thank you Buzzfeed for having my food on your show. I loved the reactions to my food. Shame about the Pancit but the rest got better reactions which is amazing! Thank to the guest for being honest and kind. I appreciate it very much. ❤ Here’s what was on the menu: Lumpiang Sariwa - fresh spring rolls with young banana hearts and chicken. With homemade wrapper/pancake. Served with savoury & sweet sauce and crashed peanuts Ukoy - shrimp and vegetable fritter with sweet potatoes, carrots, beansprouts and spring onions. Served with spiced vinegar Pancit Canton - classic stir fried egg noodle with chicken and vegetables. Seasoned with soy sauce, oyster sauce and seasoning Mae’s lechon - my signature brine overnight and slow cooked roast pork belly. As seen on BBC with Mary Berry’s Easter Feast. Served with hom made atchara (pickled carrots) and mang tomas sauce Mango float - homemade no bake mango cake made with fresh mangoes, double cream, graham crackers and condensed milk If you would like to make any of these please visit my website www.foodwithmae.com Or visit my RU-vid channel and socials @foodwithmae Many thanks to Godfrey too for always representing Filipino food! 💕🇵🇭

He said Lumpia and his definition is deep fried obviously referring to the Lumpia shanghai (filipino meat spring rolls), why did they do him dirty with showing FRESH lumpia. It's totally different flavour, entirely different dish and only common thing is they are both 'wrapped' hence the word 'lumpia'. Buzzfeed is really lacking on their research department.

Y’all featured foods not typical for being intro foods to Filipino food. The lumpia should’ve been the thinner fried version, exactly like egg rolls. The pancit should’ve had the thin translucent rice noodles. What they were given was pancit canton. Not the same as traditional rice noodle pancit. Then they should’ve been given either chicken or pork adobo. The dessert part, pretty good

There's no "typical intro Filipino food" especially because they're in the UK. If I only have some lechon or mango float in my house, am I suppose to stop myself from giving it to my non-Filipino friends who visited me just because it's not the proper or correct Filipino food for a first timer? come on man! such a self-righteous unwarranted mentality. They featured dishes that were available at the time they filmed. They did their best with what they've got. To be honest with you, it's nice to see different Filipino dishes being featured in other countries because seeing adobo or just lumpia all the time is boring.
@steevieg
@steevieg 3 месяца назад
@@PilotEarhart There is definitely typical intro Filipino food. It's usually chicken adobo, lumpiang shanghai, pancit canton, Filipino spaghetti, sisig, halo halo. So I'm really surprised they included okoy here and what looks like cebuchon, which isn't really typically shown in videos introducing people to Filipino food. Personally, I think our saucy/soup dishes are some of my favorites. Sinigang, tinola, nilaga, bulalo, kaldereta, kare kare.
@marcc5768

you got the fresh lumpia (not the fried one) so you don't dip it in vinegar. You spread the brown sauce over it and mix. then sprinkle with peanuts
@nemo0036
@nemo0036 Месяц назад
1:50 There are different types of lumpia. This is fresh lumpia. Then you have the fried smaller ones that people are more familiar with, like Lumpiang Shanghai (literally Shanghai Lumpia). Then you have Turon. It's not lumpia per se, but imagine a "dessert lumpia". Contains slices of plantain sometimes paired with slices of jackfruit. I was surprised there was no "halo-halo" (literally "mix mix"). It's the quintessential filipino Sundae containing stuff like ube, sago, coconut, jackfruit, bits of leche flan, shaved ice, syrup, and ice cream, which you then mix together (hence the name).
@johnadams2409
@johnadams2409 2 месяца назад
the fresh lumpia got massacred that sauce is supposed to be poured as toppings, then drizzled with some peanuts its supposed to be eaten using a fork, chipping it off little by little.... it isnt supposed to be a "finger food" unless if you eat it directly off a plastic bag, where you have already poured in its sauce and peanuts...

Like I always find myself saying "it's maybe because they didn't like how it's made but for sure if they try my grandma's cooking they will find it good" then it ties to a specific realization in my head that you maybe don't like adobo(or any food) but for sure that you'll find a variant that will make you fall in love.

Filipino food brings you back to the cuisine of the first Austronesian seafarers who settled in the Islands of the Philippines, mixed with flavors brought by Spain and the United States during its colonial era to the heavy Chinese influence through thousand years of trade, kicked with the tangy and flavorful spices of Asia Pacific mainly from Thailand, Indonesia, and India. Every recipe has ingredients that bring you a long way back through history. FYI Good food is sometimes made by the most simplest and traditional ingredients, not found in luxurious restaurants that oftentimes tricks your tastebuds and your pockets.

I enjoyed their reactions though, respectful even for things they didn't like. And all Filipinos have different recipes for their dishes. You might not like one person's lumpia and absolutely love another

I must say these aren't the first dishes that comes to mind when you say Filipino, but it's a unique roster compared to the usual "adobo, lumpiang shanghai, balot" or jollibee reactions

Fresh lumpia must be eaten with a spoon and fork. We're not dipping it.

that's lumpiang sariwa it should be a garlicy sauce with it not vinegar. vinegar dip normally is with the fried lumpia or anything fried

I think there were a LOT of other Filipino dishes that could have been included - adobo, sinigang, tinola, sisig, etc. other rice cakes could have also been part. Or some street food 😅

wished they used Lemoncito, the staple citrus for Filipinos and brings a different taste than a lemon. . Fun video though.

The pansit though doesn't have any "protein" we usually put shrimp or pork. Some out chicken but I don't like chicken
