I must say considering how Daz describes his childhood, it's great that Daz and Gaynor were able to provide their children with a good life. Aidan(?), I know you're getting some heat from the comments but please be grateful for your parents as they have given you things that they may have never had growing up😊
Daz has the right of it. Rations are not good civilian side, I'd never order them, but lemme tell you they hit the spot when you're in the field or in country. They can be eaten hot or cold, and they're normally eaten cold if you don't have much time and you can crack open the crackers or bread to munch on while you're walking. You really only heat them up if you're in a pretty safe position and you know you'll have some time to get a hot meal in. I'd much rather have a hot MRE (even the disgusting ones like the veggie ones) than a cold-cut sandwich when I was out doing my Infantry thing, and I fucking love cold-cut sandwiches.
He could just Door Dash some steak or lobster while he's camped out on the side of a hill outside some godforsaken enemy controlled city in the middle of nowhere for days at a time. I'm sure he'd even tip the driver well.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 omg...phenomenal video. Aidan camping near a shop. "That's called homeless mate" LOL top to bottom, what a video. God, I wasn't expecting to laugh that hard at a try video.
Right?? When he said that I busted out. He probably doesn't get his hands dirty, ever, so killing, cleaning, and cooking an animal? Yea right. I wanna see him gut a fish first, then MAYBE I'd believe him lol
@@willvr4 It depends on where in America you live and you as a person. I find that political conservatives are less likely to try new things. All they want is what they know and that’s it. Liberals are more likely to try new things.
Aiden seems to come across as a bit of a wuss, with his seemingly inability to survive without civilization just within ten steps outside of wherever he lives! God forbid he gets a flat tire a mere mile from the nearest gas station and being forced to walk the distance because he seemingly forgot to bring his smartphone with him, only to find him dead in his car after gnawing his cars upholstery in order to survive until someone stumbles by his car soliciting help because the one miles walk was seeming too far to walk for him…
I spent 20 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and two combat tours in Vietnam (1965-66/1970-71) First tour as a Marine Infantry machine gunner- 0331 . Second tour as a Platoon Commander for a Combined Action Platoon (CAP) 0369. We didn't have MRE's at that time, we were eating C-rations (Combat rations) left over from the Korean War! In late 1966 they were experimenting with something called "Long Rats", or Long Range Patrol rations which where heated in a bag as opposed to tin cans like C-rats.. That may have become MRE's at some point Tom Boyte GySgt. USMC, retired
I'll add my thanks to GamerLady's. I'm old enough to know many Vietnam Vets and have some understanding of how demanding and isolating and terrifying that place was. Anything that even smelled a bit like home would be more than welcome. When my cousin was there, we had a rota to send him cookies and other snacks. Not that my aunt's carefully scheduled packages came in any kind of order or even edible all the time, but it meant a lot to Terry.
My older brothers were in Vietnam, one a Marine Recon Ranger, the other in the Army artillery. I did 20 years in the Army in the Signal Corps. I ate the C-rats myself, we did a lot of trading. Ham & eggs were the worst.
12:00. Just when I thought I have already heard the most ridiculous thing from Aiden, he opens his mouth. " Get McDonald's burgers on a plane" and have them ready in battle. This kid would not have survived being born before 2000.
He says if he was starving he would eat it, just like the rest of the normal population. Who in their right mind goes out of their way to eat food that's worse than a frozen meal? If anything Aiden showed the most original and consistent reaction to eating a MRE. His joke was also funny, and asks a good question, we spend more on those MREs than we would buying Mcdonalds for everyone and flying it over.
@@SoundTracx You think flying McDonald's somewhere and having it delivered to some foxhole on the side of a hill in the middle of nowhere, is cheaper than an MRE? Why not just Door Dash some steak or lobster, while you're at it?
@@SoundTracx Aidan was clearly making a joke and you're very dense if you genuinely think that would be less expensive and more nutritious than an MRE.
You guys really made consuming an MRE way more complicated than it should. As a matter of fact, the heater is usually cast aside and you just eat it. MREs and other rations are meant to keep you nurished and alive. They aren't meant to be gormet. To understand this, one has to be humble and appreciative of getting nourishment in uncomfortable situations like those one finds in the field during exercises and deployments. It's when you have very little in the way of comfort. Aidan needs to be toughened up like so many of his generation.
Yeah and you should be more like bofa, it seems like we all have shortcomings. It's supposed to be a fun little video and you have to get all high and mighty over a young adult because he doesn't like some food and is goofing off for a RU-vid channel which is meant for entertainment for them and us. You're a turdslurper.
I’m of the previous generation, and know many people from Gen Z. Most of them are not remotely like this, but there’s a handful. I’m constantly impressed by that generation, in many ways. Aidan is like this because he grew up ridiculously wealthy, and never experienced the real world.
I don’t think toughened, just educated. He didn’t think of it being something a soldier would eat. He gave his honest opinion of the food even through eyes that somebody like him wouldn’t understand. It’s nutrition for soldiers and he hasn’t been through what others have
They’re good for what they are. You can’t have really good cooking when you’re in enemy territory without a FOB. They’re also good to have for emergencies. A cheaper way to go I think is called safe and ready meals dot come. You can buy buckets of food. I think each bucket is 30 days worth
"They're good for what they are" is the PERFECT way to describe them!!! First, they are designed to be compact - so you can carry many of them without adding much bulk or weight to your gear. Second, they are designed to be very high in calories, protein, carbs and fat. So, while they may not look like a huge meal....your body will be re-fueled and satisfied....but your eyes (and your mind) may not. Third, they are designed to taste good....not great....not terrible....but just good. I've eaten many of them - they were all good.
I grew up as an army brat, i could not wait for my dad to come back from the field and bring back tons or MRE's. Im one of the few people that LOVE the crackers and peanut butter. When i joined the Army i used to trade lunch size back of chips for peoples crackers and peanut butter lol.
I don't mean any harm to you good people and I don't mean to talk negatively but on a lot of videos Aiden seems like a spoiled rotten brat that just ridicules everything and makes the atmosphere negative! No offense.
so not liking something means your spoilt do you even hear how stupid you sound i guess since you did'nt like his reaction that makes you spoilt going by your own logic?
@@karazor-el9596 So, YOU not liking someone's reaction to all of Aiden's constantly negative reactions makes YOU sound stupid, and since YOU didn't like their reaction to him, that makes YOU spoiled by YOUR own logic. They post reactions for people to view and comment on. Aiden is very negative and often seems to make up his mind that he's not going to like something, like the drink where he won't even give it a chance. If Aiden can constantly have negative reactions, isn't it just as fair that other people can have negative reactions to his attitude? Or are people required to get YOUR permission for what they can post???
@@user-lt2ns7wv9e My bad it was on another video. But out of your 4 comments on this channel 50 percent of them are complaining about Aidan. Seems all you do is complain.
@@lucasw24and you've commented like 12 times on this one video complaining towards anyone else who is complaining. There's that irony you enjoy so much.
Let’s be real, Aiden. MREs are for soldiers. They don’t have fine dining in the middle of a desert, forests of northwestern Europe, etc. Plenty of soldiers fight whatever war they’re fighting right now will be happy with whatever meal they can get. There isn’t Uber Eats or Deliveroo in a war zone.
It amazes me that this family has lived in multiple countries, but Aiden acts so snobby about food. He has so many rules when it comes to food. As a side note, that gum is a laxative.
Everyone has different food preferences and taste. I would rather hear him give his truthful opinion than lie and say it’s delicious just to pander some American viewers. I served 4 years in the Marine Corps as an 0352 antitank assault guided missileman and imo most MRE’s indeed sucked. And as a side note the gum is in fact not a laxative. That was a myth. Be careful when you post false intel. You lose credibility. Semper Fi ✌️
@@onionhead5780 Firstly, I was not just referring to this video about how posh and entitled he sounds. And secondly, why did a Major in the Marine Corp state on a separate video I watched about MREs say it was a laxative? Is the officer spreading false intel? They said that because of some of the preservatives used in the MREs to keep them "fresh" for a number of years, the candy or gum is a laxative to help keep things moving.
@@onionhead5780 Totally agree, I hate panderers I'd rather have genuine opinions, people getting mad about 20 year old kid who has never struggled nor been in the military discussing his opinion on literal survival food which is meant to be nutritious not tasty is a joke.
@@LancerX916 If you seen a video with a major saying that the gum in an MRE is a laxative then yes he is incorrect. AmeriQual is a leading manufacturer for military MRE’s and the gum they provided is not a laxative. I cant confirm the validity of this information but I’ve read the gum was added to help clean your teeth after the meal. No idea if that is true. After your last post I did a simple internet search asking the question and it confirmed what I originally stated that the gum is not a laxative. It’s not life changing information and not a huge deal but that Major was wrong and those laxative stories were just a myth. Our Drill Instructors told us we had salt peter in our chow for the duration of boot camp. As a 17 year old Marine recruit I believed it but eventually learned that they were bullshitting us. Do an internet search on the gum myth for yourself so you’re not taking my word on it. Semper Fi brother ✌️
As with some have said here, they can be eaten hot or cold. In most cases, uncooked MREs are eaten when the platoon is securing an area and a few soldiers fall back to eat, this is the quickest way to fuel one's self and fall back into position to allow others to eat. Heating MREs is typically done where the perimeter is not under too much threat. Some members will stay on alert but the majority of the squad can rest a little longer and cook their meals. In the field, soldiers have what is called a mess kit, or camp kit for non-military personnel. This kit is typically stainless steel and comes with a hot plate to cook with and eat from, flatware, a drinking cup, and a battery or gas-powered stove. This kit is great if you find yourself without rations and are fortunate enough to catch/cook something crawling around you.
The heater is not a necessity, it’s a luxury if you have the time to do it. The purpose of the MRE is to get 3000 calories down your neck quickly. Also, the good ones have the jalapeño cheese.
Today in the comment section: Let’s hate Aidan day. 😂. Bro can’t win. If you guys have an issue with the product, take it up with the manufacturers. They’re sitting right there. 🤓🤭😏😂 I think Daz and Declan are more alike, but Aidan is also the younger brother. So he was probably babied more.
Ah, the kid's young: he'll learn. We all did. If you don't look back at your 20-year-old self and cringe, you did it wrong. But I did love that close-up of his parents when he complained about the bread. Daz flashed him this "I have _no son!"_ look.
A mre meal is usually 1200 calories. But when you are on a 20 mile hike and lose 10,000 calories while carrying 150 pounds of gear the food is to replace lost calories.
He's just young, hasn't experienced real hunger, after hiking 20 miles a day, day after day, this would be the best thing you ever ate. You also would need about 3600 Calories per day just to survive. While being out for weeks, you can't just bring anything you want, these are designed to stay good for extended periods, without too much weight to carry.
I think most are pretty good. It's calories and vitamins. Remember. It's a field ration. A real soldier doesn't give fuck they're exhausted just want the belly full. If we don't have em. We eat worms crickets and grubs. In training you get to eat what is in the rabbits stomach. Basically rabbits vomit. The MRE is awesome.
Beef Goulash and Chicken & Noodles were my favorite MREs to eat back in the '90s. If memory serves, the chewing gum tablets were more for aiding in digestion, to help the soldiers stay regular. MREs are typically dry foods - which is why they have a long shelf life - that could cause constipation. During wartime, a soldier can be in the field for months to a year at a time and rations may be hard to come by depending on the situation. Back in my day, soldiers were given 7 MREs once a week, that's 1 MRE/day, because that's all you could carry in the rucksack. Depending on the circumstances soldiers may get 1 or 2 hot meals a day. Sometimes, they may not see a hot meal for a week and they'll need to stretch the MREs for as long as they can meaning, some may go two or more days without eating. When this happens, trust me, those MREs will taste better than your mother's home cooking.
Ha Ha I can so relate to Aidan..My mom would get so mad because I wouldn't eat/drink after anyone in the family and she would say as a baby all she could get me to eat was meat but she had to chew it up, then feed it to me..
The reason for the meals the way they are, is at night if you had a campfire going to cook you just made yourself a bright smoky target, these are designed to keep your location hidden. Military life can be rough these made it a bit easier.
When you are out on maneuvers MREs taste much better because you are just tired and hungry and miserable and would eat the southbound end of a northbound billy goat if was all you could get so MREs are good especially the desert😊
Best mre reaction 😂 I’m with Aiden on that cracker thing. My brain is making it look worse than it probably is. When my husband was deployed he said they all dreaded the vegetarian omelette mre. His favorite was chilli Mac.
Aidan, how in the world do you not know about pasta meals in a can? Daz and Gaynor, you have spoiled him! 😂 😂 😂 Fun aside, Aidan, I am suspicious of MRE's too. Of course, I have never tried one. But, I guess in a pinch it would work. I am spoiled too. But mate, camping near a store is too rugged for me. My idea of camping is a three-star hotel. I give you all credit for trying this. Good on you. Glad to see you all laughing so much. (Now, all that said, as an afterthought, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have some in reserve just in case of some societal calamity.) Peace
Anybody here dream about Aiden being a castaway living on a deserted island? That would be must-see-TV. It'd be like watching an island of women on the show "Survivor." The perfect comedy drama.😅😅😅
I think "delicious" is kind of pushing it, but they're definitely not terrible things. Most (all?) other military's get far worse. Russians get potatoes. They can start a fire in their foxhole to prepare them, if they don't want them raw.
For military food we in the usa have some of the best menus but i do give it to other countries they do it well too but i can tell adian can’t visually imagine how amazing this food would be when ur in a jungle or a desert and there is nothing hot to eat this would hit the spot
I am ex military. I keep about 5 MREs in the boot of my car for emergencies. Such as earthquakes. They're not meant to be gourmet but it is engineered with enough calories to keep you going through the day when on exercises or real world combat zones.
The food is already cooked. A lot of guys would ignore the heating bag and just eat it cold. When I was in the Army I rarely would eat the entire MRE and just pick out the few snacks that are good. We only got MREs while training and one meal out of the day. The other meals out in the field were hot and from the dining facilities. Once deployed you eat real good in the dining facility. In Iraq our MREs collected dust in the supply room. Our D-fac served hot meals breakfast, lunch, dinner, and midnight dinner.
The best part of these is trading things you don't want for things you do want with other people. When you've been out all day, are so tired you could sleep standing and are so hungry, you could eat a rock, the meals improve in quality. To be fair, there are many parts of the packaged meals that people don't likeat all - that's why trading is so big.
"Make your own sandwich before you get on the plane!" This video is great, seeing you all struggle and making a mess, only to find some items that were tasty. I learned that I would definitely starve before eating these packets. 😂
It’s meant for those deployed and/or in combat. Best thing you can get to a home cooked meal after possible months. That apple sauce taste good as hell after a while 😂
Aiden doesn't like anything, why would you think he would eat military food lol. He'd starve to death. Let me guess Aiden - you eat beans on toast though right?
Overall great video love the difference between generations opinions! 😂 few things to mention: Firstly, In my experience nobody “loved” main meals but there was universal appreciation, taste wise, for most sides. People trading each other their favorite sides. Secondly, the civilians try MRE’s videos there’s always people that go “oh that not bad/that’s pretty good!” But after a month or so on deployment or out in the field they get really boring, and dreadful. Of course you appreciate being able to eat, but you just fantasize about food that doesn’t come outta a pouch😂
I love you all but holy sh$t this was a tough watch😳 Daz, if something is BOILING in a bag, don't grab it with your bare hands lol Aidan saying they don't water in the field 🤦♀️
No matter what they're trying, or where they are ... Lil' Aiden will always "turn his nose up" about the food. I doubt the elite British SAS has considered trying to recruit this young boy.
When my dad was in the military it was still called C rations and they weren't very good. Every thing was in green cans. They've improved so much over the years.
Do you think maybe it’s a ‘role’ to be a brat? Have a little tension thing? I too tho think he’s a brat. I hope if he reads these he might take inventory.
hate to say it, love ya Aiden, but youre going to get it on this one lol. i kind of hate when people react to MREs... but love at the same time. ive done two deployments and its not the same just bringing an MRE into your home or place and "trying it out". but ... that will be the nicest restaurant ever when you want and need it.
I guess it all depends on your frame of reference. I remember eating surplus C-rations as a kid on backpacking trips. When MREs were introduced, they were a huge improvement.
In the 1970s, we of the US Marine Corps were eating these from the Korea War in the late 1940s. They will survive nuclear war. The good thing about NATO is the chance to trade rations with other troops like the French or Italians.
