Trying Korean, Russian, and American MREs 

Active duty Army here- the number of times I’ve heard “I’m just gonna wing it” in reference to the heating pack is a very large amount. And in regards to the American spoon, there has been an Army Ranger who has a confirmed kill with one.

"This could definitely double as a weapon" Little did he know that an Army Ranger stabbed an insurgent to death with an MRE spoon in 2016.

The fact Mark instantly started making weapon jokes about the utensil known as the "Combat Spoon" is golden

i almost broke down into tears when seeing mark put the whole packet of sugar into the water thinking it was a drink mix (i know some russian)

3 years late but The American one contains a single meal, so in the field, in the absence of a kitchen, and the availability of an MRE, you can end up with 3 of those packs a day with 24 menus. The flameless ration heater is a mixed bag, with some working fine, others not really that effective, also depending on the amount of water you put and how sealed the bag is. Not the best retort pouch for sure. It's also got a lot of snacks, with some coming with entire packs of skittles or corn nuts. The spoon and accessory packet is a fixed addition, each containing gums, tissues, seasoning, matches, and coffee or juice. The Russian MRE is a 24 hour ration, that's why it has so much stuff and 3 main meals. It's got less variety , but it's much easier to get to the soldier because you don't need to carry multiple meals a day like the US MRE so you can hand one to a soldier and tell him to come back for another tomorrow, but it's not as diverse and you're gonna get bored of it eventually. The matches are very nice though. There was a scandal before where Russian army served their troops canned dog food re-labeled as premium canned meat, and the whistleblower was jailed for exposing it and they promised the public they won't do that anymore, but you know how Russian government is about promises, so make of that what you will about the quality of the food. Also you have to cook it over flame if you want it to be palatable, which is not nice when you're out in the field trying to stay concealed. Some other MRE's that use heating tablets are French and Italian among others. The Korean MRE comes in 3 forms. One is the one like this, which is dehydrated rice, vegetable and shrimp or chicken or beef, and the actual army ones have sesame oil and the spicy sauce. The second type is a collection of small boxes making up a couple different options, like different types of rice, different main menu, and the usual side dishes like kimchi or black beans. It's meant for quick bulk preparation for units. It's the worst tasting one. The last one is the coveted US style MRE with a zip lock style top, which has a main fried-rice menu with I believe different side dish options being meatballs or sausages. It also has a retort pouch for heating like the American flameless ration heater, but you don't have to pour water into it as it comes pre-packaged with the right amount, and you pull on a plastic drawstring which ruptures the water bag inside of the chemical bag, and the food is placed outside of the reaction chamber before putting everything in the MRE bag and zipping it shut. It really works so much better than the American one, with better reliability and the heat much hotter. It also comes with a pack of army brand M&M's type chocolate which is mid and an almond pound cake that is super dense and hearty with mild enjoyable flavors. The only issue is it's expensive to produce so you're not gonna see much going around.

For everyone doing this the first time US MRE you add water first, make sure the heater gets soaked and then knead heater for heat to start and then add the MRE entree to heat. Also Russian and US MRE can be eaten in the field cold but Korean one can't not very practical for an actual war implication. The drink mixes are important for electrolytes also.

It's really cool to hear him speak Korean! I love hearing people switch from language to language.

Fun fact, Honey is the only non man made food that never spoils ever. Edit: This is only a generalized response and I'm not targeting anyone, but Salt is a rock, not food, it just happens to be edible, and unless you learned how to chew it (Ice does not count) then Water is not Food.

I think the best way to work the FRH (flameless ration heater), is to shake it up after adding water, so that the entire heating element inside gets soaked. It will make a big difference 😁

Royal Canadian Air Cadet here! We also have snack bread! It had a legendary status in our squadron for infamously giving cadets constipation. We also had an attitude check (motto) and our attitude check was about snack bread. Our syndicate (group of cadets) was also affectionately named snack bread! We also won the attitude check competition!

When I hunted with my dad, he always had a corple MREs in case of emergencies. I never tried one, but he said it's comforting when the bag warms up in the cold.

Just for your information. There were several big scandals in russian military procurment, including with food. One of these was, that allegedly the officer in charge stole the funds and replaced the meat supply with (possibly expired) canned dogfood.

16:18 oh no, that container looks exactly like cheap dog food containers here in Norway. The color, shape, material, whatever is inside of it. I have one in the fridge I bought as emergency dog food because I ran out of food and couldn’t get the high quality until the next day, so I just bought a cheap one at the grocery store 😂

I want to see Mark do the whole American MRE menu breakdown. There are literally dozens of different menu options and every soldier, airman, marine, sailor has their favorite. And the one they absolutely despise.Have him try the pork cutlets.
