As a New Orleans local, Im insulted by the bread. The quality of bread is the #1 sign of a good Po Boy, and without freshly made bread you might as well just eat the fried shrimp by itself. Also this place is a bit of a tourist spot, if you want the best Po Boy go to Parkway Tavern
@TanukiSC
@TanukiSC 6 месяцев назад
I was going to say that comment is going to anger a lot of people who know how good the bread can be. This is definitely a tourist spot, but if they wanted to get the best of each dish in NO, they would never have enough time. But 100% agree with the bread being much better than they got with these po boys.

American regional cuisine is severely underrated and under talked about... People from other countries only find out about it when they really look for it... The image of USA cuisine has been "ruined" by the prevalence of fast food restaurants (McDonalds, Burger King, Wendys, etc) which by and large advertise and serve basically the same type of food (burgers, fried chicken, and fries)... Also doesn't help when news about how a large amount is consumed by the nation's population, literally showing the world how addicted and part of the daily diet fast food has become in the USA... Now this could be exaggeration to some degree by media but it does affect on how people outside and even inside the USA see as the face of American cuisine...

@@koraegiThat sounds more like it's where you live/have been. Every part of the US has some kind of good regional cuisine to offer. The northeast has some amazing seafood, and plenty of amazing cuisines made from Americanized immigrant cuisine from all sorts of cultures. Not to mention some of the best delis are up there, though those are dying out. I'm from the South and even I know there's some good stuff in the northeast. It's like anywhere else though where sometimes you live in a place that doesn't have good offerings. Like there are towns in Texas where the best food you can find is an Olive Garden and second best will be a McDonald's. In the state with some of the best food in the country.

When there is controversy between tasters they offer the food to the film crew to see what the majority "vote or view" is. For those who don't know, the boudin balls are balls of boudin filling breaded and deep fried. Traditional boudin is basically seasoned cooked pork mixed with rice, then stuffed into sausage casing. It's pronounced 'BOO-dan' with a silent 'n'. An old joke is a Cajun 7-course meal is one pound of boudin and a 6-pack of beer. One pound of boudin is usually two links. Cheers from South Louisiana 😊

I was in the area sitting with a dear friend at the hospital who was gravely ill and passed away so in the evening when I left him I stopped at the hospital cafeteria to take some food back to the motel. @@ashexrome7621Lactose intolerance isn't an allergy. It's important not to confuse intolerances and allergies because both can make your life miserable but only one will potentially kill you. Allergies are your immune system acting up. And will often get worse with repeated exposure. Intolerances are your body being unable to process part of a food and having negative results from that. They will generally remain the same with repeated exposure and ome of them can even get better. Conflating the two can cause people to make their allergies worse because they think it works like an intolerance.
@KhronicD
@KhronicD 6 месяцев назад
@@feistsorcerer2251 Just to point out a minor flaw there, there have been loads of studies and practice that show that many allergies do in fact get better with repeated exposure. It's not a guaranteed treatment, but there is plenty of scientific and anecdotal evidence that shows being exposed to the things you're allergic to can help the body develop a better response to those allergens. Obviously it's different for different people. The take out here should be ask a doctor or two before you do anything that might cause issues with your body in general.

The culture shock of the French Quarter, as someone who'd never traveled, was unreal (and this was only a few years after Katrina). I remember wandering the music-filled, art-covered streets, getting danced with by a stranger outside of Cafe Du Monde, and thinking that it had to be the most beautiful and lively place in America. After working as a long haul trucker all over the States, I can now confidently say that I still think so. The food, the art, the music, the architecture, the VIBES. Looking you guys try beans and rice and all I can think about is how amazing a Jolly series about Brazilian food would be. Not only by how different it is from British food but also by seeing the chock of worldwide viewers about the huge Korean population in São Paulo having their own "Korean neighborhood" and see how much Brazilian and korean culture mix in the city.

I've noticed a common detail present in virtually every video you guys make while in America. You both are often commenting about the use of spices, and going on about how much flavor everything has. As much as you two seem to enjoy what you're eating, I would think you could open up an American restaurant in the U.K. and serve several of your favorite American dishes. It seems that before long there would be a line out the door of people wanting what you had to offer. I can only imagine how wildly successful such an establishment would be.

I don't know which recipe my mum used, but whenever she'd make a pot of red beans for me I would take a toothpick, dip it into a bottle of Dave's Insanity Sauce, and then madly stir just the little dab from the toothpick all through the pot to get the right amount of "hot" properly distributed. Daddy took a shortcut: He just went to Popeye's.

So glad y’all tried our Deep South PoBoys! And the bread IS the star because of that fantastic sound I heard when you took your first bite! That crunch says you’re eating a PoBoy and not a soft bread like in a submarine sandwich. Also, Tony Chachere’s is used as cooking seasoning and rarely sprinkled on cooked food like salt.
