@@TokDMajEsty I have been playing for 50 years plus, and for 40 years plus I have been a tender. I am still conpetedative and play against 18 year olds and up, I a organized League. Still love the game.
Fights happen when players violate 'the code' Basically it's a self policing game. So if you go out there flying, laying cheap hits, trying to hurt star players, rookies, or goalies, someone will try to punch you out. And you have to answer that bell or you'll never get respect on the ice. Also, to answer for perceived disrespect. And sometimes fights happen purely because your team needs a little bit of momentum, or to get the crowd going! There are lots of great videos about 'the code' you could check out. And the highest paid hockey player gets 16 mil a year (Canadian dollars I think) So way less than what guys in the premier league see
also, when we fight for a reason other than a cheap hit/injuring a teammate, most of the time there’s a “good fight bud” from both guys. full of respect.
Base pay is only $750,000 and that is current.....it just got up to that price! There are only 25 players in the whole league that make $10 million or more
Fellas, you know when a player on the opposite team does a very bad tackle on your teammate, the ref gives a yellow... That anger... That's why we fight in hockey. The hell with refs...
I wouldn't say they are all good and fair hits (maybe at the time). In today's game there were one or two that were to the head and a few that would constitute 'boarding'. I understand why they instituted the boarding penalty and hits to the head, but I don't like the 'interference' rule.
My boy Tee! Congratulations again on getting married and always much love from Columbus, Ohio! I love your videos and the crew you film with. You will always have my support!
NHL teams have a salary cap of approximately 65 million USD to distribute between the team roster. Obviously the best players have largest sharers of that. Padding doesn't help anywhere near as much as people think it does. These are tough players. There's many rules on what makes a "clean" and what makes a hit "dirty". Hip checks are my favorite, you guys described them as "cheeky". made my day. cheers from canada
High speed hits in hockey are like small car crashes. Two guys moving ~25km/h (highest speeds are over 40km/h) wearing 25 lbs. of armor smacking into each other, dead stop. My memories of getting destroyed by a big hit generally felt like having all the air taken out of my lungs in a split second, and hitting the ice hard. You definitely get bruises through your equipment from landing on the ice, but not from the collision itself. Knee on knee hits are super dangerous, and can explode a guys knee. Knee injuries are probably the biggest career ender.
Just so u know a hit between the 2 largest players in the nhl recently happened the players around 6'4 250 pounds or more was hard enough it would of generated enought kinetic energy to power a lightbulb for 30 seconds there was a tweet about it ages ago i dont remember the tweet tho lol
from your previous video you asked who are the top 4 teams (comments are disabled so I'm commenting my top 4 here): Top 4 of All Time Montreal Canadiens (the team my dad and I support): won 24 Stanley Cups but nowadays they're unfortunately having a bit of a slump Toronto Maple Leafs (the Canadiens' _Canadian_ rival team): won 13 Stanley Cups but their last win was in 1967 and go to the playoffs quite regularly but choke (which amuses the fans of many other teams, including myself 🤣; no offense they're still really good) Detroit Red Wings (my state's home team even though I'm a Canadiens fan): won 11 Stanley Cups, making them the most successful _American_ team in the NHL... despite that, they are having a MAJOR slump Boston Bruins (the Canadiens' _American_ rival team): won 6 (I may be wrong about this) Stanley Cups and nowadays are first place in the Atlantic Division so they're doing the best out of the entire Original Six teams Current Top 4 Washington Capitals: as much as I hate to admit it, the Caps are on fire, especially cuz of Ovechkin. Boston Bruins: as much as I hate this team and *certain* _*rats*_, they're the best in the Atlantic Division. Edmonton Oilers: I dunno too much about the Oilers but I gotta admit Connor McDavid and Leon Draisatl are a pretty good duo Colorado Avalanche: I only like the Avs cuz a former Canadiens goalie (Patrick Roy) played for them but they're still pretty good A lot of people are gonna disagree with this (I'm pretty new as a hockey fan so I may be a bit biased)
Played contact ice hockey for 40 years and I have played soccer .... one is a little boy sport and the other a man's sport ....Ice Hockey players are present day Gladiators ......soccer players are the women in the stands .............real funny listening to you guys talk .......and to let you know , 80% of NHL hockey players are Canadian ................
Actually you got it wrong. Paval datsyuk is retired, doesnt even play anymore but back when he did he still wasnt the best. He had the best skills, but not the best player overall. Hes more of like the ronaldinho of hockey. As for alex Ovechkin, hes the best goal scorer, but not the best overall player. Most analysts, fans, and the ea sports nhl game havent ranked ovechkin top 3 since like 2011. Hes top 5, not top 3. Instead the best has always been sidney Crosby. He plays for the penguins which yes is one of the best in the league. But in 2015 a guy named conner McDavid came and people thought he was the next Crosby. He didnt disappoint. Now currently, he is actually considered the best. well theres arguments from Crosby and McDavid fans. Basically messi vs Ronaldo. From 2005-2012 it was Crosby vs ovechkin. Now we know Crosby prevails. But 2016-present day its Crosby vs mcdavid. Messi vs Ronaldo.
If you want to learn more about the guys that fight to protect teammates there's a documentary called "Ice Guardians" on Netflix. I'm not sure if they have it on Netflix in the UK.
As someone mentioned, if you are out of control on the ice someone's gonna come give you a reality check without any hesitation or remorse. ESPECIALLY if you go after a goalie or rookie.
We watched the Australian guy who compared hockey to soccer damn that's a funny video the guy who got hit with a snowball the other guy a paper airplane and a couple of guys who actually didn't get hit with anything but the lay on the field screaming like they needled amputations it was funny
Take down the license plate (jersey number)of that truck that just ran you over so you can return the favor later during the game...or next game..if you are unable to get info, your team mate steps up for you...them hip checks are nasty..react to hip check mixtape!
From virginia usa, the players fight over the big hits because of the risk of injury when a player aims for the knees. the speeds these dudes are going at it can be bad. also just the risk of injury in general when somebody gets blindsided
What's up boyos Shout out from Vancouver Canada ✌️ I watched a couple of your videos I like that you guys like hockey 👌 well ... I'm starting to like footie..... Only I don't like that they fall down like they were hit by a sniper , just from being brushed by. Anyways kudos to your show boys 💪 well done
They fight if a player of high skill on their team gets hit or gets cheap shotted the other player will stand up and fight the other team for their skilled player
Best players in NHL make towards 12 million a season. The guys are able to keep playing after those punishing checks because of 1. all the padding, armor what you wanna call it and 2. because they ain't on wussies. NHL hockey is a man's game, not for boys. These guys getting ragdolled around ice are proper big guys, 6,2" 220lbs and around that. The padding is enough protection to make you feel invulnerable, but the hard truth about the situation often comes up when you fall in a bad angle or take a puck in your face.
NHL players deserve more money than all of the other sports.. they are absolutely insane and play through all of the pain unlike most sports like wussy soccer. Soccer players don’t deserve most of the money they are getting especially when an opponent can just tap somebody and they fall down on the ground like they were shot 20 times just to draw a foul it’s pathetic really. European soccer is just so dramatic and girly.
names to look-up in the nhl, *connor mcdavid, p.k subban, wayne simmonds, alexander ovechkin, brad marchand, sydney crosby, wayne gretzky, ray borque, Zedeno Chara(7'1 ft tall w/ skates on), teemu selanne, pavel datsyuk, Sedin twins, paul kariya, martin st. louis, Tim Thomas(goal-keeper), Dougie Hamilton, Tory Krug.* these names will NOT be a let down.
They tend to go for the smaller, more strategic and skilled players. For the sole reason that they are targeted more, and can be injured more easily. 9 times out of 10... your teammate has no problem with the guy he's fighting. It's a strategic move. He only picks a fight with you to get you off off the rink for 5 minutes. That way you don't have to opportunity to score on them and gives them a chance to get back in the game. He just NEEDS to get you off the rink for 5 minutes!!! Easiest way to do that??? Pick a fight with him!
"Enforcers" are what they're called, I'm from the US played hockey all my life, fighting exists in hockey from pee-wee's on(12 yrs of age); "if you don't fight for your team you don't play" - my coach would often say, enforcers are used for multiple reasons someone of smaller size is being picked on by the other team, u put the enforcer on the ice; and to shift the momentum of the game in their teams favor if they win the crowd over w/ said fight, but to also to maintain order out on the ice as well, enforcers are extremely important in hockey, without them it could lead to the exploitation of smaller-sized players.
hockey players dont make anywhere near football players. highest paid player is mcdavid and he only makes about 14 mill (cad) a year. football is worldwide whereas hockey is just the northern countries and usa
Thx guys, been watching since u started hockey reactions..... I’m Canadian, u boys should visit someday, I’m from ottawa Ontario, I’d recommend Toronto/ Montreal as they’re more eastern cities. Canada is basically the states, Toronto is a massive city w top 5 population in North America. Also try finding some guys blocking shots w their face, 100 MPH to the teeth. Not a fun watch but will give u even more appreciation for the game. Played my whole life at a high level, I’d say the majority of players can and will fight. At least in my era.... now a days they’re trying to get rid of fighting but never will be able to. Too much passion and anger. Don’t forget u can’t go out of bounds to hide..... Cheers lads
Yeah, the NHL is getting more diverse every year. There have been people of colour for a while now, but more and more are getting into the game.... it's a good thing...
Why? I'm not saying it's bad but who cares about color lmfao. You should get in based on merit and that goes for everything. I'm sick of people being put in their positions based on identity instead of skills.
@@DeusSalis I played hockey for 12 years.. I've seen black kids being much much better than the rest of us.. they were in single letters nonetheless....I'm saying that there is a lot of black kids that aren't drafted in the higher leagues that would deserve it... it's better now is all I'm saying.
Hockey has what’s called enforcers. They are the ones that are known to fight and whoop some ass. When they are on the ice playing, people usually mind their business.
@Itsyourboytee you should react to some Lacrosse vids. Indoor lacrosse is like part pro wrestling, and the hits in outdoor or field lacrosse are intense!
You should watch "The official history of NFL rules" by NFL Throwback. It basically explains the rulebook and its development in the past hundred years since its split with Rugby.
some teams will hire a "Defensive player" who will unofficially be known as their team goon. in hockey, a "goon" is a teams designated fighter. going for revenge against guys who hurt their fellow teammates.
The point of having a few good fighters is to deter teams from doing huge hits over and over again to injure the really good smaller players. To stop them from doing that you have someone around on your team who will hit them back so hard they regret it, or fight them. You are less likely to crush my star player if you know I have a goon waiting to make you pay for it. So they don't kill your star player and put him on injury for weeks. Some teams will wait months for revenge, the game has a way of policing itself this way. And yes it's legal to hit, fighting is worth penalty minutes.
lol they dont teach them how to fall getting hit, you just do it for your whole life when playing so you get used to it. By the time these guys are in the pros they are moving at 30-40 KPH when flying. You can't prepare for that if you don't see it coming.
North American sports leagues pay a lot of money. The average salary of the NBA is the highest in the world. 6.4M a year. The MLB is the 2nd highest in the world. 4.4M per year. The NHL is the 4th highest in the world. 2.4M a year. The NFL is the 5th highest in the world. 2.1M. When you look at the HIGHEST salary soccer takes no.1 but the AVERAGE salary in all of the top 5 European leagues is lower than the NBA, MLb, NFL, and NHL
You don't see NHL players much on Cribs because they're not as popular of athletes. The best players make 10-13 million/yr with good players making between 5-9million depending on their team situation and average players 3-5 million. bad players make 1-3million
Originally the big fighters were “enforcers” to....yes....protect key players. Gretzky barely got hit.....and if you hit him.....you were going to get your ass kicked. This is not true hardly at all anymore because of the commissioner trying to take fighting out of the game.
