What a great little video. Brixham looks to be an interesting place. Loved the rocks the fishermen were on. Hope you had a great meet up in Brixham.

Yes, it was a great meet up Faith! We had lunch at the Breakwater Beach cafe & bar - a highly recommended place, with stunning views. Although I have featured Brixham a fair few times on the channel now, there is still much I have not shown - it will have to wait for another day. Some of it is truly incredible. It was a busy, but lovely day, as I shot this video in the morning, had the catch up, and then I did the 'Lost Railway Walks' one in the afternoon. I try to be as productive as I can. More from this area to come soon, but a return to The Severn Way is coming next. Take care, Paul

Hello Paul - greetings GSM from Poland. What a wonderful video. Superb photography and commentary. So much to see and do. I've never been to Brixham. Well worth another visit me thinks! I hope you enjoyed your lunch with ex colleagues and that it wasn't too overwhelming for you. It's always great to go back to old haunts. However, it's never that same as when you worked there. Thanks again for a fabulous video. Stay safe and I'll catch up with you in the next vlog.

Thank you Michael! Glad you enjoyed another one of my Brixham exploits - I have featured the town a fair few times on the channel now, but, given that there is so much here, I feel that it is justified. The meet up was great - it was right on Breakwater Beach, well away from the crowds, and it was lovely and quiet and good to catch up. Thanks so much and take care too, Cheers, Paul

Very nice video. I spent most of my childhood holidays in the West Country. There certainly are some beautiful places in that area. Thanks.

Thank you Martyn. It was lovely going back to the town where I worked up until a couple of years ago. There are still parts of it that I have not yet covered on my channel - yet! I do hope to return again. Cheers, Paul

Thank you Simon! Glad you enjoyed it, although my photography isn't up to your very high standards. I did enjoy my few days in the area - particularly the walk to (from Churston) and from (back to Brixham) Mansands - video on that coming soon. Thanks for a lovely comment. Cheers, Paul

A lovely old town - and still very much a 'working town', by the looks of it. Hope you enjoyed your lunch - fish, I presume?

@westcountrywanderings 10 месяцев назад
Thank you Malcolm! Yes, it is good to see it is still a thriving fishing port - thankfully nearby Salcombe and Dartmouth also still have fishing too - despite them all being a tourist hot spots. You will find this amusing - I haven't eaten fish (or meat) for over 35 years - I have been a vegetarian since then - so fish is always off the menu for me! Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Take care, Paul

Fab video Paul. Brixham and its legacy - (shell)fish and those who caught them. And how nice to catch up with some old work mates. Makes the day even more enjoyable. A gem of a video Paul. Really enjoyable. Hope your weekend is going well. Cheers from Germany. 👌🇳🇱🙋‍♀🇳🇿

Hi Paul, what a great video, really enjoyed it. You caught the colours around the harbour side perfectly👌👌. Giving some of the stills a white frame worked very well👏👏. The music for the opening scene very very good too. I guess the "Let them eat fish" is a work of Banksy, I assume it's placed somewhere in town. Always remember the first piece of his that I saw, in the centre of Bristol, a man hanging off a window ledge hiding from his lovers husband!! Just read Kathy's comment on the bell like figure, so now I know what it is. When I saw the mosaic of the sun rising I thought oh that's similar to Zadar in Croatia where I took my sunset photos. They have a series of organ pipes which are driven by the waves as they lap around the quayside, not too dissimilar to Brixham, but not as decorative. Hope you had a good time with your old work friends. I find it quite hard sometimes when I go back to the UK, it transports me back to another time and you see so many changes as well. This weekend I have been back to the house where I used to live for many years until lockdown. We are going to sell it so I needed to clear out the remains. I had little time to do it, just as well because I would have been dawdling along looking at all the flotsam and jetsam that we accumulated over the years!! Loved seeing the seals, it's what I remember about the last time down in Cornwall some time ago now Great video, well done, have a great Sunday

Thank you David! I didn't realise that it was a Banksy, but looking at various forums, it looks like that it is! Well spotted! Yes, he has done many in the Westcountry, not just Bristol - there is one in neighbouring Kingswear too. Perhaps I should have added explanatory subtitles about the 'Time & Tide Bell' but I guess it is also fun to give my viewers a taster to invite them to explore further. I was very fortunate to see the seals! That sounds amazing about organ pipes driven by the waves - incredible! Hope you are having a great weekend! Take care, Paul

Another one Paul, beautifully filmed and put together, I haven't been there in years. When I was scuba diving that used to be our default location. Must get there and take another look. Take care. Ron

Thank you Ron! Glad you enjoyed it. I didn't know that you ever went scuba diving! Wow! Did you ever go to the diving centre at Tidenham/Chepstow? Yes, Brixham is certainly worth an explore - the coastal areas are the best parts of the town. I have another Brixham video coming soon showing Brixham's Mansands Beach - I had it all to myself. Hope you are having a good weekend! My Severn Way Gloucester video should be out later today. Take care, Paul

I truly value this video. Why? Because on my two previous visits to Brixham, I quickly left and went to the sanity of Berry Head. What I saw in Brixham was just tourist traps to relieve people of their money. This included the expensive parking which I thought was designed to ensure people only stayed long enough to relieve them of their money. Now Paul has showed me a different side which makes me want to revisit. Paul, am I right in assuming that you parked above Churston Cove and walked into Brixham on or near the coast path? I'll try to go there before the year ends. Thanks again, john
@westcountrywanderings
@westcountrywanderings 10 месяцев назад
I was car free John - I try always to be if I can. I caught the train to Paignton, and I managed to stay at Churston, about 2 miles away, and caught the bus from there - bus every 10 minutes! Car parking charges are horrendous! Alternatively, you could park around Churston, and catch the bus from there - much easier! I caught the bus into town and walked to Breakwater Beach where I had lunch with my work colleagues. I have a few more videos to come from this area, including Elbury Cove, and the magnificent Mansands Beach, probably the finest location Brixham has to offer - it was stunning, and I had it all to myself on a sunny morning. Thanks for a great comment! Brixham is truly a gem, if you remove the cars, and the tourists in the summer peak. Cheers, Paul

Amazing. Apparently it was only installed in June this year. The dedicated website which explains the concept - essentially to do with acknowledging climate change and rising sea levels - is interesting. Must hear it at high tide, the clapper (I think it’s called) seems to bob randomly with the waves, and it’s quite sonorous and mournful from a video I heard by BBC News. They say they might have to move them when they’re permanently submerged with rising sea levels. Oh no! Great video from you too, Paul. 👍
@westcountrywanderings
@westcountrywanderings 10 месяцев назад
@@ian4iPad2 Thank you Ian! Yes I had a feeling it was linked to rising sea levels. The fishermen and women (yes, there are some) are acutely aware of both of the effects of climate change, & rising sea levels, and, unfortunately, sea pollution, as well as increasing sea temperatures, all of which has a direct effect of the quantity, quality and type of fish that is caught. Thanks for watching and the comment. There really is a lot to this small Devon town - I will be back!

Another of your beautifully presented videos, Paul. There is no such thing as a poor picture or video where you are concerned. I may have been to Brixham years ago, but I can't remember it at all. I always like fishing harbours, don't know what it is! The smell of the fish. The lobster nets. The sounds and the beautiful old houses that always seem to be present in harbour villages. At the beginning of the video, I spotted some colourful rocks. Were they natural?
@westcountrywanderings
@westcountrywanderings 10 месяцев назад
Thank you Lionel and Mary! Yes, the colours of the rocks are entirely natural - you can see more of them in my 'Brixham - St. Mary's Bay' video which I made about two years ago now. Brixham area has a fascinating geology - there were many ironstone mines and limestone quarries in the area - there are a fair few inland caves too - a huge one near Berry Head Hotel, where dinosaur remains were found. I do need to go back to cover more of it, don't I?! Thanks so much for watching and commenting - it is very much appreciated. Take care, Paul
