Had a male exploring my newish pond. Thanks for these close ups as although I've seen him closeish he's been in swift flight and only settles on the far side of the pond. Never seen one of these before.

Had a female in my garden today, only caught my attention as i happened to be looking out the window while it flew around and settled high up on our hedge. Stayed there for a good 25 minutes, occasionally flying off and coming back again.

awesome - love to know what sort of camera you used. The egg laying was neat. Looked after a larvae - saw it through all its molts - then came back from work to find another larvae had crawled over it to hatch and it had dropped back into the water - 18 months - often hand fed too.

Thank you glad you enjoyed it. The Camera is a Sony HDR-FX1E with Raynox diopters screwed to the front for additional magnification on some shots. Raising larvae can be fun, the only trouble is I find they tend to emerge to early, especially with extra warmth of the house and a bit of hand feeding. My BBCs came out in March! so not ideal. What i tend to do is raise the larvae for photo / video then release them into the wild a few months before their season.
