Paul Wontorek sits down with a true theater legend, nine-time Tony Award winner Tommy Tune, currently back on the boards in the Encores! staging of "Lady, Be Good!"
OK, is it just me, or is Tommy Tune still GORGEOUS!!! He has aged SO BEAUTIFULLY!! I am a firm believer that regardless of what you do ( creams, peels, face lifts, facial exercises), if you are not a beautiful soul, your internal ugly will show through as you get older, and conversely, if you are a beautiful soul, it will show through and make you beautiful no matter what. This man is clearly not merely a great talent, but a great and beautiful soul as well!!
There was s a very long line of Tommy Tune worshippers. I’m sure I started the fan club. He is an American treasure with talent that never ends. His tap is as memorable as Astaire’s for sure. He gets the importance of the great musical comedy composers. Mr Tune has such humility despite his fame. To know the importance of touring! Wow! Thank you for sharing. PS. What a charmer!!! His story is just lovely. And I’d love a pair of those glasses frames.
I've had the pleasure of meeting Tommy Tune several times at his high school awards show in Houston! Thankful to have been apart of a great high school theatre department where we were nominated and could have met him!
Can Tommy Tune be more gracious, charming, and charismatic!!!! Amazing person and artist, as we all know. I first saw him in Hello Dolly movie. Thanks for posting! Cheers
I just posted on another video, my first recollection of Tommy Tune was also watching Hello Dolly! At the time I hadn't heard of Michael Crawford. It's so wonderful to see them both decades later as legends of entertainment in different genre's. Tommy is so inspirational in his performances as are his many interviews and recollections. I was watching Bobby on Strictly Come Dancing 2023 UK, I can't think of any performer who in 2024 can make me think of Tommy Tune and wonder if he "might" enjoy similar success with the potential I think he has yet to discover. Any one who has seen Tommy live I totally envy!.
I met him when he and Twiggy were on Broadway....granted I was really young but I will NEVER forget it. One of the most profound moments in my theatrical life
Just discovered this video today. How charming, elegant, sincere and genuine this man is. It reminded me my first trip to NYC I was 25 and was so fascinated by tap dancing that I took a class in his school for 1$ an hour. Can you imagine? It was the time of my life for a young French tourist girl just passing through NYC for a holiday. I’m 75 now and I still remember this big chill. I’m glad to see that he’s still well and in great shape. ❤️❤️
I met Tommy at Lady Be Good! He was incredible and the show was very nice too! Plus Tommy is an unbelievable human being. I told him he is my inspiration and aspire to be just like him. He was very grateful and told me "Do your best, always do your best!". I almost cried I could not believe how nice he was!
He's quite impressive in person. At a hotel in Bocca Raton Fl I got onto the elevator and there he was. I knew immediately this guy was somebody and commented to him "I know you somehow I just can't place it right now" he replied, "Oh, my reputation precedes me". Very smooth. Was not until watching Arrested Development a couple years after this that I found out who he was. Had honestly forgotten about the incident until I saw him on the screen then POW the incident came back to me and mystery solved. That guy in the elevator was somebody, after all, Tommy Tune.
This is the best guest you've had on that couch Paul. I could listen to Tommy all day. I can only imagine the stories he'd be able to tell. That elevator name change story was GREAT! And to think, while I knew his name, I never really knew who was. I might have to read his book now.
Met Tommy in Cleveland when he was in Dr. Doolittle for the Broadway series. I bought several of his signed prints depicting animals. Need to find those and frame them!
I wanted to hear something from Tommy on his birthday. Loved him, but the interviewer seems too loud and insincere for my tastes. Maybe I'm missing something, this is my first listen.
How on earth does Wontorek let Tommy prattle on about not wanting to wrinkle his pants on the set of Hello, Dolly!, and not ask him about working with Gene Kelly and Barbra Streisand, two of the giants of American entertainment?
This interviewer was so wrong in asking Mr. Tune about his sexuality !! It made no sense, and made me feel uncomfortable. !! It was a stupid question, and Tommy handled it beautifully !! I don't care for this interviewer !! There were so many interesting questions to ask !!
Paul, let's be honest, the Lumpy Rutherford hair is not working for you. A style that helps slim your chubby face and jowls would be more flattering. Take a moment to appreciate how Tommy Tune pulls his appearance all together magnificently.
