Before Super Bowl LVIII, Jimmy Garoppolo advised Brock Purdy, reminding him to 'do what got you there.' The San Francisco 49ers fell short 25-22 to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime. Colin Cowherd compares the two QBs, explaining why Purdy deserves a pass for the loss: being a more efficient Jimmy G. He’s not a bell cow and can’t pound rock touch after touch like those guys. Cmc is only effective when he’s moved around and used both in the slot and backfield and is an extra piece in a larger system. Deebo is basically the same player too if you ask him to line up at x and match up with ramsey or whoever. Colin doesn’t know what he’s looking at

I'd take LT or Barry over CMC. Especially LT during the year he had 31 total TDs. Edit: LT had 2 passing TDs to go along with his other 31 TDs in the 2006 season, so really 33 total TDs.

There is only 1-2 potential (not guranteed) hall of famers, CMC and warner, but they'll need a ring. There's more potential/guranteed HOFs on the chiefs team (guranteed: chris jones, travis kelce, mahomes; potential: their entire secondary).

The difference is that Gorrapalo was clearly limited despite the wins, and he left and got worse. Purdy, as a result, is given less credit because of Jimmy G's success. He gets more credit because of his draft position and the fact that this is his first full year.

Purdy is good and maybe can and will get better. Jimmy was really good for us and helped the 49ers become relevant again. He just did. He did get blamed for most everything that went wrong. He came with more expectation so its understandable not to mention a large contract. People seem to forget it was also his 1st or 2nd year as a full time starter. Similar record between brock and jimmy when they started in the superbowl. I just wish more people understood all of this instead of just bitching and blaming jimmy g for seemingly everything that went wrong when he was with the 49ers.

I hate this take for so many reasons. We didn’t blame Jimmy just because of 1 throw. We defended him tooth and nail UNTIL that one throw. The guy threw 27 total passes in the two games leading up to the Super Bowl. Brock threw 69. He was asked to do way more than Jimmy ever did. And we act like Jimmy didn’t have anybody other than Kittle (who was better then than he is now). Deebo was a rookie but you watch that tape and it’s still the same old deebo we know and love. Emmanuel Sanders was a huge addition for us at the deadline. We had the best rushing attack in the league, and one of the best all around offensive lines. And if we watch the Super Bowl this year, a majority of the mistakes that were made that we didn’t capitalize on were not because of Brock, but because of his all-pro counterparts who we hold on a pedestal. Trent had back to back penalties that ruined our second drive. CMC fumbled in the redzone on our first drive. Aiyuk stopped running on the deep ball that would’ve scored. Deebo dropped a few passes. The game just didn’t go our way, and that’s fine. But to sit here and blame this kid who has been one of the best qbs in the league all year long and compare him to Jimmy is a disservice.

I was simply defending jimmy because most seem to blame him regardless. For everything. Even now on the Raiders with that horrible Oline which is now being talked about as horrible but wasn't when they were getting jimmy killed. About brock, I didn't blame him and don't actually. I said he's good and can maybe get better. That was really it.

@JLU-pr5fl it’s more the fact that we deflect an inappropriate amount of blame on certain players. Bottom line was that Jimmy was a big reason we lost that first Super Bowl. He threw 2 interceptions and missed a big throw. Brock isn’t even on the radar for players who cost us the game. Jimmy’s main contribution to the niners was that he won games despite his play a lot of the time. We just magically won. Brock has backed up our wins. I just don’t want to put Jimmy on the same plain as Brock when making comparisons.

BA ran the wrong route and Chris jones got to Purdy in under a second in that miss to debo. Purdy is in his 2nd year and the dude made a SB, he’s gonna get better, and idc if it’s only a little bit (like how a lot of people have been saying he won’t get better), guess what If he’s a little better he wins the sb this year. He’s a smart qb and he’s only like 23 years old. I’m not comparing him to any of the greats but he’s damn well playing like one rn. People always talk about the weapons, but guess what, Kurt had the best team ever assembled probably and we never give him any hate for it. Apparently Purdy wasn't as good as I thought. I watched and listened too Chris Simms programm, he was AT the SB and showed play by play on the screen when Purdy took the "Safe" throws instead of throwing longer throws that might have won the game or been intercepted.

A bit of slander. Purdy's 2 open throws were different. Aiyuk ran the wrong route on the first one early in the game. The 2nd one had Chris Jones running at him unblocked and in Purdy's face in under 1 second. Jimmy had a clean pocket on his game winning throw. The line did their job. The receiver got open. Jimmy blew it.

Is there a way to get the info on how often jimmy g was pressured? Not only with the 49ers but also with the Raiders? I know he wasn't pressured on every single drop back but damn it seemed like it. The Raiders/Lions game he definitely fkd up several of those throws but man he was getting killed to the tune of the Lions, who turned out to be pretty good by the way, pressuring him at a record setting or tying rate. So much talk about the pressure on Brock but that rarely gets mentioned in defense of Jimmy. I'm a 49ers fan and I like Brock Purdy before anyone flips out and takes this as some kind of attack on him.

Purdy is absolutely better than Jimmy G. Higher ceiling, quicker developer, and less of an injury risk. It’s convenient to show those numbers in 27 games but Jimmy’s were played over a larger span of time dt being hurt

Didn’t drastically change the rules. True. They could make it so when you score a touchdown you have to cluck like a chicken. And if you score a field goal get on all fours and MOOOOOOO like a cow.

I read the comment about best RB since Walter Peyton wrong. Yea that is crazy, McCaffery is good and better overall maybe if you factor in the receiving. Maybe thats what he meant? Not a better pure running back than walter payton though.

Brock Purdy played great. This is not a conspiracy theory there are so many evidences and video footages that are out now which shows the Chief OL were holding the niners defensive players. It’s funny that the Chief did not get call for any holding penalty. If it wasn’t for it Mahomo would not be able to do what he did. Let’s be fair!

Did you mean the superbowls or their careers so far? In the superbowls you may be correct i have to rewatch. If you mean their careers so far then seriously go rewatch Jimmy's games and all the pressure he was constantly under and the tight windows he could fit when throwing down the middle especially slants.

Well most conductors are musically trained and can play multiple instruments on most occasions so not a great comparison, also why are you playing in a superbowl and don't know the OT rules? Because players need to know how they're gonna operate based on what they need to get every play, it's a completely different dynamic knowing you can score first and win the game as opposed to how it is now where you can score first and still lose, Kyle should've had them ready and that's why they lost, just couldn't put think Mahomes and Reid down the stretch

His good, but i agree with the majority on this. I grew up watching E. Smith, faulk, LT, J. Lewis, the bus, AP, E George, R Williams, pocket Hercules list is huge. What we are seeing is the fact RB is undervalued and alot of players arent fighting to play or get touches, also they dont have a name for themselves to carry weight to get it. S. Barkley comes to mind, but teams dont run heavy like those days. CMC just stands out cause most of the nfl want that huge flashy play 50 60 yd pass. And the offensive friendly penalties helps push it. Cmc is no frank gore, but he is good in his own right.
