Without the injury last year, niners are in the Super Bowl back-to-back years. People still saying he’s not good.

The reason Purdy doesn’t have to scramble as much as Allen or Mahomes or Jackson is, he’s already gone through his reads and thrown the ball accurately on time. We’ve seen that he can run, he ran in for a touchdown against the Bucs in his first start. He had a long scramble for a first down in the first game of the season against Pittsburgh. He had three runs in the NFC Championship game. But most of the time he stays in the pocket and finds his receivers. If I was a WR, I’d much rather play with Brock than some of these other guys. At least you know you have a fair chance you will get the ball.

If it was Trey Lance with the same stats and wins as Brock Purdy this season for the Niners. All analyst would be saying hes next QB of the future, the same thing they are saying of Jordan Love on steroids for Lance...

The bizarre thing about Purdy is he had no offseason due to his injury. His arm wasn't right till weeks into the season and he has improved from last season, so he has never had an offseason with the starters to practice with. There is also tape on him and he still is having great success. As a Cardinals fan, it will suck to face them twice a year, but he really is a special talent. His line is not very good at pass protection besides Williams and he takes shots down the field when he could settle. Kurt did a good video breaking down his tape recently debunking the myth that he is a check-down machine and it just seems people want him to fail because he started getting more praise than they liked. I do believe it is fair to compare him to other great quarterbacks early in their careers because his numbers and win-loss column support that a lot of scouts were wrong about him and he very well could be a top 5 quarterback in the league. Joe Burrow and Patrick had loaded offensive teams and never got knocked for it. The Chiefs were great before Mahomes with just Alex Smith and the Bengals loaded up on young, excellent offensive talent to propel them into the Super Bowl. No "game-managing" quarterback can do what he does and it is a knock to label him as such because he elevates that talented team to a true contender.

Yea I agree with kurt at the end. Stop declaring the limits on what Brock can do. Let it play out.

Issue with what Dan O is saying is that Brock, in a NFC conference game put the team in his back when his defense let the other team score 30+. That said, how many times did other QBs do that this year? Its a team sport, they just keep making scenarios up to move goalpost for Brock. Its getting ridiculous at this point

He’s actually already proved that when things aren’t ideal he can win. SF has had one of the worst pass blocking offensive lines this entire season. And for the last two months they have had a bad defense. Both those things are not ideal. And he’s won anyway.

Maybe a bad comparison but I'll try. It takes me 10 minutes to explain to my boss where the root cause of a software bug is ... but it took me a full week of work to "find it" - lots of narrowing, isolating, doc review, processing involved. Many of the coach potatoes find it easy to work backward - oh Brock made that throw, I can do it too. But they don't know the pre snap read, the timing, the footwork, the elimination of a side of the field, the holes in the Defense. They look at the result and think they can duplicate it, but ignore all the work that leads up to that moment. And I dare to say, many QBs can "make a throw," but the decision to arrive to that throw I think, is what separate the mentally sharp, elite QBs from the mid-tiers ones. Hence, Brock is already in elite company because he can process those information in a extremely high, and pressurized situation.

Kurt has been objectively praising Purdy for a while now.

It blows my mind that supposedly professionals, people paid hundreds of thousands of dollars, rate NFL QBs based on "athleticism". Being an athlete is a bonus, not a requirement. It doesn't matter if a guy can throw 90 yards and run a 4.3, if he can't read a defense, or has less than a 2:1 TD:INT ratio. QBs who try to run too much in the NFL just get hurt... - Wentz - RG3 - Vick had an ankle injury - Richardson (remember when Pat was so hype about him... 3 passing TDs, 1 INT, less than 600 yards passing in 4 games) - Murray Nobody would look at Manning or Brady and say "oh yeah, super athlete", other than being tall. Mahomes has a dad bod. Being jacked/ripped/whatever has zero to do with being a good NFL QB.

The Brock hate is just lazy. Feels like people are just upset he's out there being successful this early and he's a fluke. I hope he wins and plays spectacularly, just to hear the excuses people will come up with

We live in a society where everyone HAS to know how to rank/categorize players and compare them. I choose to watch Sunday’s game already happy for Brock and hopeful he helps the team win. He is a good dude, and has already exceeded expectations. I can’t be mad no matter who wins.

its so weird to here people bring up Mahomes like he is more athletic thatn Purdy. His arm is but nothing else. Purdy is a better runner and is faster in short areas. Purdy is hardly just a pocket passer, He can make plays on the run and gash you with his legs. It's weird that people think hes not athletic. He has the same 10 yd split as CMC. His 40 time isn't great, but how many times do you need a qb to run 40 yds in a line?

Yes!! Thanks Kurt, let Brock finish his story and let it play out. 9ers are loaded on O, but this is their best version because of Purdy's great play. He's had an MVP caliber year and deserves credit for it. Nobody said he's the GOAT. It's Dan and others like him who always have to take a QB and measure them and compare them to the best in NFL history. Do the same crap with Mahomes. All the while they totally wreck a good story instead of enjoying what these guys are doing in the moment and letting it play out.

The problem with Dans argument is that there is only 1 QB in the league that can play well when the talent around him isnt great, and thats Mahommes. You would have to remove Josh Allen and Lamar from your elite talks because they cant carry teams to super bowls wins regardless of situation

this idea of brock being a product of his system is silly. if i am coaching a figure skater and train them to speed intona triple lutz and then use that momentum to transition immediately into a triple toe, that's the system i designed, but you need a monster of a skater to execute it. it's not like brock is being asked to dink and dunk, he is tasked with threading needles and throwing to receivers in stride.

The MVP doesn't necessarily mean the best player on the team. The Most Valuable Player is just that. I disagree with Cam Newton saying a 'Game Changer' has to be the 'Best Player' on the team. Too many times, a QB will try to FORCE things to happen by trying to do it 'ALL' by himself. I have news for many people out there, including Cam - be the 'Playmaker' - that's why you are the QB. You get the ball into the hands of your 'Skilled Players' at the right time. A 'Game Manager' is what a QB is: he manages the offense. There is nothing wrong with making the plays that the 'Coaching Staff' brought together. A 'Game Manager' isn't only, "Don't Lose..." but makes the plays that ends up getting the 'Touchdown' or at least a 'Field Goal' at the end of that drive. This has little to do with 'Not Losing' the game, but sticking with that plan which was drawn up. A 'Game Changer' is a 'Game Manager' who does something 'EXTRA' at the right time; and that is when the 'Game Plan' isn't working for 'That Specific Play at That Time'. The 'Game Changer' is able to 'Make Something Happen' from a 'Broken Play'... and succeed. A 'Game Changer' can also 'Change the Game' in a negative sense when he tries to 'Force A Play' unnecessarily and ends up by turning over the ball or doing something to 'Hurt The Team'. Also, a team has 'Skilled Players' called 'Running Backs' that are paid to 'Run The Ball'. The QB should not have to 'Run The Ball', but to give it to the 'Running Back' so that he could do HIS JOB. The QB does not have to nor should be required to 'Run The Ball'. This does not mean that the QB can't run the ball, but make use of 'The Running Back' so that the 'RB' could 'Run The Ball': that's why he's the 'RB'. Also, the QB does not have to 'FORCE' the ball down the field to make a 'Spectacular Play' in order to be a 'Game Changer'. To be a good 'Game Manager', the QB has to be patient...which can be difficult to do. A play can take between 1.75 to 2.5 seconds where the QB has to hold the ball for a moment, then throw it at the right place at the right time. It may seem simple, but 'THEORY' and 'ACTUALITY' are two different things. There is a reason a football team has a 'Coaching Staff' - and an 'Offensive Coordinator' to do the 'Brain Work' BEFORE the game so that during THE GAME, the plays work. Also, the 'Playbook' has 'The Plays' that the team uses. And with the 'Play-Calling', the QB has 'The Option' to make a 'Change' BEFORE the snap if he sees something that 'THE DEFENSE" might be trying to do in order to 'Stop' what 'The Offense' might be trying to do. A 'Game Manager' has that capability as 'Quarterback'. Again, a 'Game Manager' does not have to do anything 'Spectacular' as long as the 'Game-Plan' is working. The BEST QBs were EXCELLENT GAME MANAGERS! The Quarterbacks are the 'MVP's' of the Game: they have to be. That's why I think the "NFL' should do like the 'MLB' where the "MLB' has the 'Cy Young Award' for the 'Pitcher' - because 'The Pitcher' has his hand on all the plays. The QB has his hand in all the 'Offensive Plays'. I believe the NFL should have: 'The Offensive Player' and 'The Defensive Player' Awards as 'Offensive MVP' and 'Defensive MVP' of the game ASIDE from the QB. The NFL should have a Special Award for the 'QB MVP' as well. Also, the 'MVP' doesn't have to be 'The Best Athlete' or 'The Best Player', but he must be 'The Most Valuable Player' by using his skills to help his team WIN GAMES...PERIOD! Enough said.
