The San Francisco 49ers dominated the New York Giants 30-12 on Thursday Night Football. Brock Purdy went 25-of-37 for 310 yards and two touchdowns, while Daniel Jones struggled, finishing 22-of-32 for 137 yards and an interception. Colin Cowherd compares the two QBs' performances, then praises Purdy for being the 'beat' of the Niners offense and calls out the Giants for always looking down the New York Jets when they are 'looking square' at them.

As a San Francisco native and ardent follower of local sports since I was 6 years old, (I am 70 years old) we have been blessed to have had such excellent sport figures throughout my years. It took a while for us to win a World Series, and to win a Super Bowl, yet we always had athletes that made us proud. Brock Purdy is one of them. Along with many players on the team he will be one of the many legends we will be talking about when the new sport fans turn 70.

Actually, I do know what it is; I worked in a Nursing Home for 22 years! You know how when someone sees a 1-2 yr old child it’s great. I was raised to always respect and appreciate my elders and I do have a soft spot for older people. Now, I’m no youngster myself at 51! I’m a lifelong Long Island NY native and I love San Francisco for many reasons 1 it’s a beautiful City and 2, I guess when you’re in love, every City or Country looks great! If Brock Purdy was a first round top 10 pick, pundits would be raving about him as a potential future of the league. It’s all confirmation bias with him. When he has good plays they’re a fluke, when he has bad plays they’re highlighted, the inverse is the case with top picks. If Justin fields played a game like Purdy, the narrative would be, some bad throws, but he’ll get better. But those two TD throws against the blitz were great. That’s what he can do. Evaluators and pundits are contorting themselves into pretzels to reconcile his draft placement. They were wrong, just like they were with Brady. The fact is, a marquee pick and a superbowl qb have played in this offence, neither looked as good as Purdy.

Jones' overall career stats have been mediocre, at-best. The Giants organization signing him to a long-term big-$ deal is a head-scratcher akin to when the Ravens did the same with Joe Flacco a decade ago now, but at least they waited 'til after he won a Super Bowl with them before making that numbskulled move which ultimately hamstrung their talent-acquisition abilities for a few/several seasons -- they have recovered, but it gave their division rival, the Bengals the opening that they needed in order to attract Joe Burrow and try to build a Super Bowl-contending (if not winning) team around him

Trey Lance is a great example of what top tier teams do. 49ers took a huge swing and whiffed big time. They sucked it up, admitted their mistake and moved on. You get teams like the Giants, Cardinals, and Bears who stick with it. There were so many promising young QBs in the draft last season and the Bears decided they had their franchise QB for some reason and decided not to draft one. Giants and Cards overpaid QBs who are not worth close to the contracts they received. I get that a decent QB is hard to come by, but overpaying for a QB and stifling your long term chances is worse. Why pay some dude 40 million+ if you still can't compete in the playoffs. Giants won last season, but everybody and their mother knew the Vikings were not nearly as good as their record, so congrats to Jones for getting paid, but shame on the Giants for doing so.

I think it's his poise and experience. Four years of college was beneficial. He plays it safe but knows when to take his chances on big plays. That's experience. His throws are safe, too. He often targets to the outside shoulder on the outside numbers, he throws in front of his receivers over middle and his endzone throws go either to his guy or over the top and out. That's experience, too. He's also had only one fumble for a loss so far. I think that's in and of itself a virtue and gives them a high level QB play.

Purdy played at Iowa State in a pro style offense with spread concepts. He played with blue collar players, not blue chip. That is really important to remember, since he still managed to have moderate success. Purdy has faced lots of adversity, so him playing on one of the best NFL teams with one of the most savvy offensive coaches is almost providence. Many of the problems a starting caliber qb has to face, such as a collapsing pocket, a blown blocking assignment, and getting hit, he has faced already. He just needed adapt to the speed of the game. That last part is huge because it shows his intelligence. Purdy has the intangibles due to facing a crucible at Iowa St and still managing to break the school passing records. It's why he was able to show such poise and make throws after getting sacked, which is a big deal no matter how you slice it. Safe or not, being able to make throws on 3rd down is always a good ability to have.

It feels like football fans and experts are waiting to see if this guy has a bad game. I think we've seen it. He's missed throws this season, should've had at least 2-3 INTs but fortunate that his receivers knock it down or the DBs just choke on catching the ball. Even with all these mistakes, the way he recovers on the next play is phenomenal. His mental resilience is outstanding. He doesn't overthink and ruminate on the last play. Colin's right about the NFL and its scouts which happens in other pro leagues. They want players who "look" the part. Purdy's small with limited arm strength who didn't play for a blue chip program. Jones, Zach Wilson, Fields, they're going to grind out of the league in a few seasons but the NFL template will continue to push certain players from specific programs who "test" well at the combine and "look" the part. The NBA is guilty of the same thing.

They threw 85% blitz rate on your boy an he figured a way to compete and that’s what matters most he wasn’t rattled It sends a message to the rest of the NFL. If you try this will still pick you apart. Last couple of years we would’ve started out the season 1-2 (an still trying to gel) but these boys are 3-0 and working the kinks out.

What?! Colin's ability to talk out of both sides of his mouth never ceases to amaze. To say wins and losses are a QB stat and to then have that little speech at the beginning of the vid is yet another great example of this. Unbelievable. No, if you think W/L's are a QB stat then everything IS on the QB, you cannot believe in a team winning through team effort, in having a QB that's good enough because the rest of the team is great- this is literally the opposite of that belief!

Purdy got lucky he was not intercepted several times in the first half. He made some critical tough throws in the second half. He can take them to the Super Bowl and actually win, as long as that offensive core (Kittle, Mccaffrey, Deebo, and Ayuk) stay healthy.

You never would have seen Purdy coming in a million years. I know you have to create content every day but it would be nice if you were consistent and did not change your story every week.

Most NFL quarterbacks take 5 yrs to really mature. Purdy is well on the way, but just think what he’ll be like with 3 more seasons under his belt. He’ll be carving up defenses. And his arm is plenty strong. With his crew, he doesn’t need to throw it 50 yds.

again he hasn't ever had to play from behind....he has a star studded cast of ALL PRO'S ...wait until all those guys want paid because there is not enough pie to go around for everyone....wait until they need to put the entire game on his shoulders.....we haven't seen that or even know if he can....he's a game manager **there is nothing wrong with that*** ......but he's always had it easy since his team is always playing with a commanding lead!........i and a lot of others need to see more than just sitting back with the lead and not having to take the bus off roading!....pump the brakes a little bit because no one knows how he's gonna play under real pressure!!!!!

It’s funny. Most people in the comment section think that Brock can only be considered good if he can win a SB in a bad team, with bad receivers, a bad defense and a bad coach/organization. Ignoring the fact that he did that at Iowa State, how many NFL QBs have succeeded under those circumstances? Answer: none.

I'm not a football analyst, but I'm asking this question. Is Brock good because of all the weapons around him? And the offensive scheme the 49ers play with? Because any pass over 20 yd. I've yet to see one that I'm confident in when he steps into it.

oh my goodness Colin, how about his teammates? You talk about throwing the ball down the field, yeah he did that a couple of times but I saw a lot of 5 yard passes where Christian and Debo and George were blasting forward for extra yards. I'd have to guess at least 100 of Brock's passing yards came as a result of these guys pushing through contact and gaining extra yards. He's fine but those guys are the ones that deserve the credit here.
