did some slight porting & polishing on a pair of brodix bb2 heads for a 496 big block chevy.
heads are assembled for my 1979 chevy malibu, factory 4 speed non AC car. it currently has a 454 cid bbc backed by a tremec tko600 5 speed transmission. noduar ford 9 inch rear axle, detroit locker with 3.70 gears.
similar years of these good looking chevrolet a body cars are 1978 1979 1981 these GM cars are sometimes called a g body.

Runnin the same castings here with 13:1C/R 2800lbs 5.906 @114.65 Have the heads off now upgrading the chamber shrouding of the valve, I had already removed those casting ledges around the valves. I'll soon find out how much opening the chamber wall up about 3/16" from the spark plug to 9 o'clock position of the valve will add in power. Cams 270°/280° 108° Think I gave $624.00 in 2012 Lot of power to be had in un-shrouding, now the Dragon Slayer is kicked back to 23° to solve the south side chamber shrouding issue.

brodix makes some good heads, but yeah the chambers could be a little better, i didnt want to get too crazy on them. eric weingartner did some vids on the chambers in the bb2 bb3 and dragon slayers. i have a set of bb3, i like the chambers in them alot beetter than the bb2, 5.90 is a moving, ill be glad to get in the high 6's, more of a street strip build im doing.

@@chevyfarmersgarage1955 I just went to a 2.300 intake and put the throat @ 91.5% and opened up the spark plug side of the chamber to 1/4" clearance around to the side of the valve at .300 lift. Added five degrees and .040 more lift. Anxious to see how much it helps my 468. The BB-2 Plus needs some help but it's already good and can be brought around. Hopefully I'll catch your progress as posted. 79 Malibu here too. (gutted, tube car, engine back a foot)

@@chevyfarmersgarage1955 Your Channel, you have a ton of stuff going on, were their production factory 4 speeds in the Malibu? I know that close ratio Saginaw 4 speed was in some Pontiac's in the late 70"s. Chevy offer that in a Malibu package?

Yes there were factory 4 speeds in them, not a lot of them were made though. most that had manual trans were 3 speeds.

In my 496 my guy said he’s using the same heads with a solid roller cam and he’s shooing for 10.8 compression. I’m hoping for 700 hp plus. I hope to break into the 10’s with my C10?

From the spark plug to the 9 o'clock position, as shown... this head has valve shrouding issues. There's as much or more to be gained in chamber upgrades vs anything in the port, least with the valve guides in it. Port intake runners with the guides out if the opportunity ever arises.
