I'll say this for them: I used them for about two months. In two of those sessions I got very, very useful and actionable advice that I use to this day. But after a while I didn't really have much to talk about, so I stopped paying for it. I don't regret it at all because the advice I got, the mental and coping strategies, seem so obvious looking back on it, but having a professional walk me through it made a lot of difference.

So many ridiculously rich people in the world and so many poor people, the balance is so wrong, but I can’t see it ever getting any better. I’ve lived in Brighton most of my life and the amount of homeless people has gone up every year. Great to see these people helping these unfortunate people.
@ArualCrisp
@ArualCrisp 9 месяцев назад
I agree with you that the balance is definitely off but a lot of the people on the streets are there because of the addiction to drugs. Rich people work for their money while others spend it on drugs and are unable to work and support themselves as a result because of their addiction. I don’t think we can blame the rich people but more the failure of the government to tackle the vast drug problem in the whole of UK. Not necessarily even a drug problem, but mental health issues which often lead to drug abuse.

The High Streets are dying and as a result these problems are becoming ever more visible to the naked eye walking around most British cities. I wonder how many of these homeless people are criminalised as a result of their lifestyle, and their lack of private space from which to live their lives which leads to them feeling and being outcasted by the system.

I’ve been living in Brighton now for more than 14 years now and sadly I’ve seen the gradual decline in the quality of life and rising prices of living which have been pushing local people out of the city centre. I started to notice this at least 10 years ago with agent furcation which came from which people coming down from London and buying up cheap properties predominately in London Road and causing the rent to skyrocket and making it impossible for local people to have any hope on getting onto the property ladder at all.

Though it's not say Brighton isn't thriving even though we have the retail downfall as well (We have an IKEA coming soon, I look forward to that) but out of every place I visit I always want to go back to Brighton as it has everything you'll ever need and the nightlife is tiers above most places (Minus the bouncers) and Brighton is different from everywhere, it has a lot of character.

You won't save someone from taking their life unless you help them with their circumstances, sorry not being funny but I have been up Beachy Head many times and been abused in the psych unit run by psychopaths. Many people want believe their own good deeds make a difference and many of them do not listen and invalidate. Society has this narcissistic notion that if we sweep people's problems under the carpet and tell them to leave it in the past until it happens again and again...those lives you think you saved may have and may STILL end in suicide! I don't mean this as a personal attack, I just know because I have been there many times over and am still getting this narcissistic treatment and I am still homeless. I have been tortured physically and emotionally by the corrupt authorities for the past 7 years. The people paid to help me helped push me and other patients to suicide! Some did suicide.

I also think that a big reason that contributes to homelessness in U.K. is the astronomical house prices and rents, which are way out of reach for most people of the younger generation. Their Salaries aren’t high enough to cope with the outrageous cost of property here
@Westhamsterdam
@Westhamsterdam 10 месяцев назад
Not normally substance abuse is by far the biggest. Before 2009 when the U.S. government gave the Méxican cartels a monopoly on meth production, tent cities were virtually unknown in the U.S.. It was only after 2009, when meth(amphetamine) flooded the whole U.S. cities that tent encampments became a regular fixture. I think it is widely accepted that meth (not really found in Europe, it does exist but very small) is responsible for the tent cities. You hear Fentanyl! Fentanyl! Fentanyl! It´s not the real problem in the U.S. meth is. Saying that since the arrival of Spice, homelessness in the UK has exploded. There is a saying in politics "nothing happens by accident" who really was responsible for introducing spice in UK drug culutre?
@cultfiction3865
@cultfiction3865 10 месяцев назад
@@Westhamsterdam Yeah you are probably right that meth probably has caused a lot of these tent cities to shoot up in the US. And in the U.K. I’m not sure about the connection between spice and homelessness. A lot of homeless people appear to use Spice, but I don’t know if that is an effect of been homeless or whether it’s a cause. Much like with alcohol they probably use it to zombie out in a stupor. But I doubt Spice would lead to mass homelessness like meth since Spice has effects almost identical to regular marijuana except it’s less safe. Here in U.K. I would think that the extortionate cost of housing and wage swallowing monthly rents are a big cause, since social housing is hard to come by here now in most places. The demand for it is too high and they haven’t replaced all the social housing that’s been sold off. And even unemployed people often don’t get all their private rent covered since it’s so expensive in England that it leaves a shortfall. Then there is also bedroom tax in addition to this. So this seems to be a big reason here. Drugs don’t seem like a huge problem here like in US

Coastal towns have become a dumping ground for homeless and poor people with complex issues by the tory government. As London becomes more and more gentrified and a money laundering centre for crooked Russians etc who buy up swathes of property the more people that get priced out or moved on. It's social and ethnic cleansing of the working classes and the poor and vulnerable. With that it creates huge issues for where these people are decanted without choice. The council services, housing and support structures outside of London simply cannot cope with what's been forced upon them by central government.

Eventually bought a house in Portslade at the time , worked in Newhaven, laterly in a hospital in Haywards heath. This city gave me the start I needed when I was 20 ish, now nearlly 60. I arrived in Brighton weeks after the grand hotel bombing, being Irish was not a good thing then. Some people hated me , understandable, equally I managed to gain the trust of others from this great town. I got my start, being honest I didnt see so much Homeless ness then, perhaps it was there. Paul is a great man, he so sees the situation for wat it is and doesnt judge. Top man doing a great thing! Wel done on another interesting video. Hope the 2 gents who have got themselve sorted get back into a good place . Good people who deserve a chance!

I point the finger of blame for all the drug abuse and homelessness firmly and directly at the Government, deliberately overpopulating the country and ignoring its wellbeing of its own citizens is a crime in itself and those who sit in parliament should be ashamed of themselves!

Not immigrants fault that people choose drugs and booze. Whobwould you rather live with, a clean immigrant or a conniving, violent addict? Feel free to offer up your couch to one of them.
@Gez-C
@Gez-C 10 месяцев назад
Why would immigration cause people to choose drugs and alcohol? It’s down to individuals whether they use them or not (rightly or wrongly I. It here to judge) and beside at some point this country (and other) have always had people coming here, maybe I will blame William Conqueror for my issues as he was an immigrant to this country 😉🙄
@princebuster93
@princebuster93 10 месяцев назад
@@Gez-CThe money and resources are going into supporting and funding Immigrants, in clean warm hotels, free food, phones, access to healthcare, education and whatever else they need. The social, mental and physical needs of homeless people is deliberately being neglected, but yes it is a choice to drink, take drugs etc. The issues are a lot deeper though, jobs being lost to technology, high cost of rent, low wages that don’t cover basic cost of living, that’s just a few
@gingerali
@gingerali 10 месяцев назад
@@princebuster93 thanks for your response mirroring my own response to the previous two .i would also add that drink and drugs destroy lives of the families connected to these mentally ill addicts . This country used to have mental asylums for these kind of people until some do-gooder decided under the banner ‘ care in the community ‘ to close these asylums as it was stigmatising people and now we have them living in front of of our eyes . This country never had a homelessness problem until recently . I could go on and on but I hope you get my point. The Cabal of crooks sat in parliament are at fault!
@princebuster93
@princebuster93 10 месяцев назад
@@gingerali to be honest, you cannot solve a spiritual problem with man made solutions, we can see the proof by examining exactly what you are saying. The Government have become a social engineering machine, that has manipulated society to such a degree that to many people look to the Government to change and solve the decline in people’s social, economic and mental wellbeing. The Government was not set up to be the people’s caregiver or God, but a communist Government will always seek to be the people’s God, = to control them. Come from a poor family, spent a good few years just surviving, but always worked, once I started seeking God and became born again, spiritually, my life changed for the better. I would never ask or expect anything from the Government, in fact I keep as far away from them as possible. God is allowing this to happen to the world right now because we are in the last days. I pray many Brit’s seek God as things get worse, it does break my heart though, how our Government are so Anti British, corrupt, cowardly, spineless and Godless 😢😞🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🙏❤️

Ive been homeless in and around London and the south , the most recent spell was for four years only ending two years ago. I have nearly always managed to be part of a crew and squat somewhere. It's not easy, but it seems to suit my temperament more than being an individual rough sleeping (although I have opted for that occasionally fleeing the squat for the sake of safety and sanity!) So Brighton takes a really dim view of squatters. It feels like a zero tolerance policy with extraordinary measures for anyone attempting occupation. I know they can be fussy about some of their fancy old buildings, but they come down very hard on anyone in derelict buildings or in out of the way situations where they are no trouble. I am sure this contributes to the increased numbers on the street and must affect their mental and physical health . I would have suffered pretty badly if I had to sleep rough bc there is nowhere to squat .

"I truly feel the government is just allowing this to happen". If truth be known the government (elites) are behind the drugs trade. Drugs (none recreational) are there to destroy them but at the same time if you feed them & look after them on the streets (just like Kessington/Skid Row) you create a type of prison where they can´t escape this is how the elites manage it they keep them to certain areas away from rich.

A Serb here. I lived in Brighton 1990-1995 and again 2000-2006. Definitely my fav place ever. Felt like my natural habitat till the big money moved in from London and elsewhere. Brighton has been attracting the freaks since the times of the Prince Regent and all that malarkey. At one point the Primal Scream moved in next door to ours, met Nick Cave , Mr Slim the Fatboy and many other cool cats. At one point thanx to the refreshments it was getting out of hand so I decided to leave. Ended up in Puponga NZ, the marketplace for speed, weed, trips and more. The irony.

I wanted to live in Brighton, as it’s the largest LGBTQ+ Community and the Summers are warmer than where I live, but the chronic shortage of affordable housing and being disabled presents challenges for housing. I don’t drink any alcohol, I drink use illegal drugs and I have difficulties with stairs, so relocating to Brighton is not possible. I don’t want to be harmed because of a person who has struggled on the streets and I don’t know how I would be treated by people in my community because of my neurodegenerative disabilities. They’re desperately in need of affordable housing. I hope that there will see better days for all of them. Hey Wendall. How you doing? I was the frontman of a folk rock band in Brighton for ten years and eventually moved to Peacehaven along the coast because of the heroin problem in Brighton. Had to move twice because an addict moved in next door. If there's an addict in your block, you eventually get burgled. That was in1996! Brighton was a cool place until Simon Fanshawe became mayor. He campaigned for city status for Brighton and got it and the municipal budget tripled - and so did the amount of people flocking to the town. Mostly from up north. In Brighton, and so did addiction. I was a counsellor at Youth Action Group in Hove and the problem of heroin, crack, coke and alcohol was huge then. Even the police knew and they would allow someone to have up to an ounce of grass or hash if it was personal because they knew that Brighton's real problems were the aforementioned. Brighton began going downhill in the late 90's. I wouldn't live there now. Too dangerous.
