Great video. I just noticed that my passenger LED is not working and my drivers side is starting to flicker on C205 2016. Doesn’t look like a hard job. My car is a year out of warranty, going to try see if Mercedes will fix it for free but if they don’t then at least I know I can do it and only spend on parts ( around £15-£30 each ). I was thinking of changing this LED myself but having watched this I understand why I should instead pay to people who specialise in MBs. Even more though I wonder if it's even worth having those swanky door handle lights given you have to dissemble half your vehicle and the chances of scratching / breaking clips / messing something up, even by trained people, are real.

I did the above on driver's side of a C400. Wow, it is a nightmare. It took me two hours just to get the old light out of it housing -- no room or reach whatsoever (if not careful you could shatter the window glass. If you ever wanted to settle an account or punish somebody, have them to replace the driver's side handle light of Mercedes.

wow, what a lot of work to replace one failed LED, thanks for sharing Chris. I have a question, did you test the dead LED ? i mean, was it totally dead ? before putting in the new one, maybe it would make sense to squirt some oil into the contact points so it doesn't get corroded/short...

I wonder if it’s the same for my C300 one them light went out in the back door.

I was told by the dealer advisor the new Benz don’t have this anymore cause the previous years had a lot of problems so Benz decided to not have them on the new cars anymore, now 1 light went out on mine rear left door handle and the job at the dealership is $600!!! He mentioned the is a lot of labor involved cause as we can see it is a lot of steps just for 1 little light the it might end up going bad again!!! I do take care of my Benz but I’m not crazy to pay that much money for a little light!!! With that money I can pay for rotors and pads in 1 axle!!! So I just wait for the other 3 to go bad and is going to be fine!!! Good luck guys!

its actually not that bad. i took my time. The first screw in the door does not come all the way out.Just unscrew it till it stops and leave it in, the same with the window screw.. The hard bits were removing the LED with the lock knob still attached , getting the handle back on bc the spring holder had sprung back into the door. and forgetting the window bung so had to remove the panel again. The next one will be easy about 30 mins max. PS can you help the luggage cover on my estate is intermittent ie it doesnt always retract when opening the tailgate

Just noticed that my driver side looks purplish and rear driver side looks white. Is it starting to fail? Is also happening in reverse order on the passenger side.

i guess you are using 2 torx drivers bc the magnet is stronger so you dont lose any screws. PS i was quoted nearly 300 notes so i'll have a go myself

Do you have any issues with your air vent lights? I’ve fitted them on my W213 but sometimes the drivers door ambient light doesn’t switch on.

So i figured it out. It's not that hard, but too much to take off. But if you follow the video it's doable. I have to say that the rear doors on a long version with window curtains are more difficult. The hardest part is to take off the cover by trying not to destroy the plastic clips.

I think I rather just break the other 3🤣🤣

I tried to do this for my w205 coupe. I couldn't get to the light still to remove it. The one thing I don't understand is why you need to loosen the window. I didn't do that. I cant hold it up with tape on the coupe. Do you actually need to loosen the window to get to the light?

Can I install such a light in the door handles on w212?

It looked great on my white W205, but 3 yrs later 2 turned purple.. It should have been installed into the handle, maybe into the part you took out first. Would be a few min job. Still wondering if that could be done w an aftermarket part. The engineer who thought this was a great idea should be sentenced to hunt mines with a hammer.

One of the door handle lights on my S213 has been dead for a while. After seeing this video and realising how complicated it is to replace it, I decided to take the car to a MB dealer and take advantage of the last couple of months of warranty to get this LED replaced. lo and behold, MB dealer smashed my window while trying to replace the door handle LED and I ended up with no car for a few day until they can source a new glass and replace it. So either this replacement is very difficult or MB dealer didn't know what they were doing. So beware that there is a risk involved if you attempt to do this. Overall I am very disappointed with the way MB has designed this, seem stupid that you have to disassemble the whole door to get to the door handle LED.

Do you need to reset computer after changing them?

Well I have an answer. There About $25 for the part and very similar from rear and front. Now here is the big part. I called the dealer ship. The specs say 3 hours @ $155 labor. I just might want to do it my self. Thanks. I will let you know when or who does it .

Here's a cheap n quick fix. Go to your nearest dollar store & buy a $2 LED penlight keychain to hang off your MB key FOB.

These leds are really bad quality.. MB knows this and stopped putting lights there in 2021
