Another side quest for today, I found a use for the off brand EZ Outs. I picked these up at Autozone when I was working on the Jeep and they haven't been used. This is the Right Hand Bolt Extractor Set.
This is a vertical lift arm for a series 300 John Deere 3 point hitch system. This appears to be made out of cast and is expected to break before the rest of the tractor. The downside to that is that repairing it can prove to be more costly than just replacing it.
Another way to get out a broken bolt is to weld a nut to the top of it. I decided I'd try the extractor first and since this particular part is equipped with a grease fitting. We were sure lucky that it actually saw some. All I needed to do is use the supplied drill bit, pound in the right hand extractor bit and simply turn it.
