This guy never ceases to amaze me with his creativity, watching this on a chromebook.

Some improvements, use a hub to attach usb ports. The switch for power, sliding it back and forth is going to wear the ports out, so it would be better to switch +5v on the USB line. Modern laptops use an antenna in the screen, not a bad idea by removing the circuit board from the phone and directly mounting it. Also, instead of aluminum, just just pvc. If you want to go all out, put a USBc dock inside.

I love this build! No 3D-printers involved, and that mechanical switch design is genius.

Well, the best option (at least for those who have a 3D printer) is to make the housing parts with plastic of the filaments/resins instead of using aluminum because it is cheaper and more practical and obviously you have the artistic freedom to customize whatever you want, resulting in a unique and aesthetically beautiful laptop... or maybe not

Brilliant! You are a true genius. One thing I'd like to add is that you could have placed the phone a little bit higher on the back of the screen. That way you're also able to utilize the front selfie camera. I really like your content and want to start my own project but it always holds me back from some reason as it seems to be a lot of work and the lack of knowledge on some of the topics like soldering etc.

If you locate the phone holding clips a bit higher, you could use the phone's selfie cam as a webcam

Just found this great vid. Instead of the hand-formed clips for the phone, you could 3D print a removable bracket for the phone(s) that could be replaced for different form factors, making it forward-compatible for the next phone.

Great video. I have several 'dead' phones and even a couple of old 'dead' laptops for parts. This has inspired me to have a play around. Would never even have thought of this. Thank you.

Suggestion: open the back panel of the phone, find the SMA connector, put SMA Antenna which can be salvaged from an old laptop

If the phone holder is a little bit higher so that the top bezel of the phone sticks up a little bit, you'll get a functional webcam as well!

Great build , but small improvements would have made it even better : 1. Sticking the phone little higher with the sugru , he can even use the front camera for video calls ! 2. All black design

Definitely doing this with my old Google Pixel that won't hold a charge anymore. Also if you had done your mold higher (if the USB-C cord is long enough) you could have the phone stick up a bit above the monitor to use the front facing camera as a webcam.

That is a kind of common product. They are called "lapdock" and feature a battery, USB-C connection, a keyboard and trackpad and sometimes even a touchscreen and they are really thin.

This reminds me a lot of the Pi-Top laptop! I build one ages ago but sadly it has long since been destroyed. It was a fun project though!

Really awesome. I would make another solution for the phone. I like the option to mount different phones, but I would make a place to slide it into, so its not that visible. A webcam with microphone would be a must too 🙂 I might also prefer build in speakers, just to enable sound. I know that most people including myself would often use a headset or other bluetooth device... But all in all awesome 😊

Samsung dex is a revolution. For others using launchers like the one mentioned above you can use adb commands to change screen dpi or if you are rooted there are apps to change dpi directly from your phone to give a windows like experience.

Make sure you sand down the primer with p400 or p500 so it gives it a smoother surface and add grip for paint so I can't pick or peel off.

After watching this video, me and my cousin started making a laptop like that. We used a display cracked galaxy s9 which was not responding touch. An amoled Samsung display costs a lot in Uzbekistan so we used thin wooden pannels to cover it, plugged an adapter which has 4 usb-a, 2 usb-c, 1 micro-usb, 3.5mm jack and hdmi ports to the phone. We added 61 button keyboard, 2 mini speakers, hd+ oled display which was taken from a water damaged laptop and a powerbank. It cost around 60 usd. Now my cousin has a fully functional working android laptop.

few ideas how to improve this even further: use a normal switch that would be soldered to one of the usb power wires to the board, or a relay to not rely on a mechanical switch, and add a USB C port to the side, e.g. with a USB hub

This is literally infinitely upgradable. Could always replace battery and upgrade with ease and the phone itself. could use an s24 and a bigger battery bank to have a gaming laptop nearing pc specs without trying, even adding a touchscreen with a high refresh rate would seal the deal, with the phone inside and a cooling pad/fan rig attached to the bottom if you add vents for air flow to keep every thing nice and chill.

for the on and off button you can just connect an power button to the power cable and it will cut out the poer instead of slidind the control broad and gluein the power cabe to a spot

You can purchase small aluminum angle that size, and it makes that part much easier. Safer, too, since there's no cutting needed and no sharp edges to have to deal with.

I use my Nokia N8 for this. It's plugged to a proportional Sony tv screen through its onboard HDMI, uses a bluetooth mouse and keyboard combo, and i have about 1tb of external storage through the OTG support which they invented and introduced through this phone. It's also able to allow me to play any game from old consoles i want. The only caveat is that i had to learn how to code programs for it.

very good design but I would do it in a different way: in the upper part there would be only the screen and its cable would go to the lower part where there would be its control board with hdmi input connected to the hub which from the usb c port of the phone makes hdmi full-size usb 3.0 and still leaves the usb-c port for charging to this type-c port so that the powerbank with the charging connector is connected to the side of the housing and to the usb 3.0 hub that allows you to connect the keyboard and touchpad, which because they are usb and not bluetooth will be much cheaper and in addition, it will allow you to lead several usb ports to the side of the housing to easily connect pendrives, computer mice, gamepads and other accessories, and the phone itself would not be glued inside the housing, but on the back of the housing or in the upper part, so that there would be a slot with a usb-c port at the end, allowing put the phone you use normally inside and then be able to replace it with another one and everyone who puts their phone inside has all their data on this laptop right away
