Just letting you guys know any criticism in the comment section is valid for the developer to read. This is a beta footage. It could be subject to change in the future.
Charles Cecil has hinted that the game will have the same feature as many other remasters where a button press will allow you to switch between the original and the remaster graphics, I cannot wait to do that with this game.
It's interesting how they've changed the bar in the cafe in Reforged, now it looks like a bomb went off next to it destroying the stool the bomb was on. I cannot wait to play this and see what's been altered and improved!
But the bottle still stands 😅 But they couldnt change that i guess. They also fixed the pipe where George guessed that the clown escaped to the roof. But the pipe being too short for that in the OG to reach the roof. Now they made it so long that it leads to the roof. Tiny details but nice
Some of George's facial animations in the remaster needs a slight bit of tinkering but other than that, it's looking pretty outstanding. Although I am a bit uncertain since they had to use AI to reconstruct much of the game visually (as said by Cecil in an interview as they had to do that for cost-cutting measures as doing it all over again by hand would be too expensive).
Looks pretty perfect to me, to be honest. It's exactly what I hoped an HD remaster of this game would look like. The use of AI per se is a non-issue (it's the future, after all). How you apply AI is what truly matters. This, even in beta, looks outstanding!
and i think the face of George looks too happy in regular state. George can be a bit grumpy at times, not always. But this looks too nice / clean and all.
It looks promising as long as they don't ruin it by changing things. Adding stuff on is okay by me where appropriate.. just don't mess with the original story/dialogue. One thing I remember from the original PS1/PC release is I think you could just keep ordering beers forever in the pub in Ireland, but that seemed to have been broken in the director's cut. I enjoyed taking my time in that section and getting George wasted. Little things like that can really niggle you But similarly, I'll be buying this to help fund development of the next game anyway
Having discovered the game through the Director's Cut version (on iOS if it matters) the trailer had me going "yeah that is higher res I suppose, but is it really that much better? This video definitely showed that it's a lot better. I will say George's head looks weird during the newspaper reading, and the bartender's animation after being sat down looks slightly off and I prefer the more "slummed" version of the original there. But honestly if it released like this I would definitely replay this game once again.
In the original George’s face comes off more agitated or stressed but that’s probably due to the squish 2d animation back then. Updated version he seems upbeat at the start. Now I guess anybody could be happy not nearly dying from a bomb blast it’s just a little weird seeing everything originally with more clear detail. George’s face I felt was a character in itself and I hope seeing everything more clear he keeps his expressions as to what I felt they were.
In his interview with Polygon Charles Cecil said there are 'three or four' minor changes to the script. The examples that he gave was changing a couple of lines of the Syrian carpet seller that he felt were too stereotypical and removing the bit near the end of the game where George kisses Nico while she's tied up. There was no suggestion of anything bigger than that, and all the references were to the original, not the Director's Cut. There will also be an optional 'story' gamemode, which will be an easy mode with nearly no puzzles. It sounds pretty faithful so far.
