I love your play through videos. One long video without commentary is just what I want. I play them in the background while cleaning or doing stuff around the house or while drifting off to sleep. I love Monkey Island, hope to see Tales of Monkey Island eventually too! Thankyou for taking the time to record, upload and share :)
I think this is missing from the Special Edition credits. But it is the the other versions! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CCvfPrXHPSI.html
I remember getting stuck in the boat for over a week cuz I couldn’t figure out what to do. Once I figured it out I basically snailed my way through the rest of the game but it was so satisfying getting through it
Why don't they remake all the old classics like this for us old timers, I'm 56 now I've still got the games .watching this though brought back great memories,
Hm, I interpreted LeChuck shaking the grog machine in the ending as him actually shoving it, like in those infamous stories about soda machines collapsing on people, but the Special Edition just makes him insert coins and not shove the machine at all. Did they really not catch that he was trying to shake out Guybrush?
The special edition graphics were painted over the original sprite placements, so they couldn't give him more (or less) 'movement' than he had in the original. I suspect it simply wasn't possible with that limitation. Monkey 2 special edition seemed to fix this issue.
This is amazing not only as a walkthrough, but also just to sit back and watch. Very well done! Personally I press the button to make the game look old, then new again, upon entering any new scene and I use the hair patch, but I take more than twice as long to finish the game without help.
Wow love this channel and off course scummvm engine to as i play on it alot so ur name was just fakkin fantastic "The Scumm Bar " !! Thanks i hope u still uploading "Things" as i just subscribed !! =)
@@THESCUMMBARSource? I doubt he didn't like the art style since even the copy protection and the original game cover pictured a more realistic looking character design by the always amazing Steve Purcell. In any case, I think most players were mesmerized by those shots and the amount of detail they had. They made your imagination run wild whenever you were looking at the character models and you would imagine how they would look in detail.
He says so during in the commentary track of the special edition. To be clear: I don't think he had a problem with the quality of the artwork, he just felt it was incongruous with the style of the rest of the game. Compare Guybrush's face in the close-up with his face when being shot towards Monkey Island. In fact the faces on the copy-protection wheel were closer to the latter than the former. (It's also likely this is why there weren't any in Monkey 2.) Personally, I grew up with Monkey Island. So I'll always prefer the original graphics to the remaster.
@@THESCUMMBAR Same. CMI was great and the art style was also good but it required some adjustment at first (I didn't like the new Guybrush or Lechuck's designs at first because of the huge departure from the originals). I was expecting an art style similar to the close shots of Monkey1, similar to the aesthetic A New Beginning has but Monkey style.
Last comment from me! Loved the walkthrough, except... there's a few responses/reactions I would've done differently. Like... I usually show no mercy to Bob, the ghost who gets left behind on Money Island (& Otis' old crewmate and friend to the other two landlubbers, Carla & MeatHook) and I woulda sprayed the undead bastard with Root Beer as victim #1!!! =OD And... I woulda broken the rat out of jail before Otis. Just because! XoD It's also amusing to keep on breaking out of the Cannibals' cell in their village, they give up giving a shit about you breaking out - seeing as you keep returning anyway! Oh! And sinking your ship off Monkey Island with the Cannibals' piece of modern art! =OP I also like exhausting all the possible lines of dialogue, as well as things like "I'm Bobbin Threadbare... are you my mother?", and chatting with the pirate who desperately wants you to ask him about Loom! LoL! And, at the end... that bit where Guybrush says he learned something "...out of all this...", and Elaine says "What's that?"... "...Never pay more than 20 bucks for a computer game!" - That's what I personally would've made Guybrush say! =OD LoL! I love it when it gets all 'Meta' !!! Anyway! I just love finding (and as I said - exhausting) all the options! Finally, I can't recall if there's more than two ways of dying in the game? There's the bit where Fester Shinetop aka LeChuck kicks you into the drink by the Scumm Bar and you run out of air after 10 minutes, and then the other bit on Monkey Island where you fall off the cliff and land on a rubber plant/tree! Finally (really!), I kinda miss the original close ups of the 'talking heads' of Elainei and Guybrush. Remember them from the original Amiga & PC versions? I think they were olde, crudely digitised pics, though I suppose they could've been hand-drawn...? Right, I leave it there! I'll just ramble forever and ever otherwise! Off to watch Monkey Island 2 now! And then Indiana Jones and the Fate Of Atlantis! Toke it easy, Peace, Love, Dope!!! Loved watching this! Thanks!
I don't understand how anyone could be mad at Return to Monkey Island's art style but chill with this awful shit. Monkey Island hasn't looked good since Steve Purcell left . I have never understood Long Guybrush
Cuz its just cp animation while this is still 90% manual draw design. Hand painted figures that got cooied by the system not generated by tech. I personally think that MI3 is the best of all looking at design and gameplay. The new one just looks empty like they did it extra low to get a classic look but that went wrong. I think it looks kind of like lego figures without the contact buttons. It just hurts when a legend that comes with new pieces all decade gets fkd up like that...
@@stillgotyourmom It sort of looks like the modernist direction Disney animation went in the 1950’s. If you think of the original monkey island as looking like classic Pinocchio-era Disney then it Makes a kind of sense as an evolutionary step forward.
I tend to agree with this. But the special editions gave us voice-overs and made the Ultimate Talkie Edition patch possible. I got to give it props for that.
During the sword practice fights with the random pirates: Guybrush says the line "First you'd better stop waving it like a feather duster!" (or something like that)... Well, the way he says it just doesn't sound right to me. He says it as though it's a duster FOR feathers/for cleaning feathers! Instead of it being a duster MADE of feathers! A pointless little thing that's just always niggled away at me... It's funny cos I had the Amiga version and that had no speech, just text (not sure if a CD version with speech came out larer on?)... But anyway, about 15 years later (2004/5) I bought a 2CD version with speech for my laptop. See, earlier on during the 90s until about 2000 you had to really make sure your PC or laptop had exactly the right hardware before you could install and play it at it's full capacity! Then around 2000 onwards, most laptops would play virtually any PC game without any real effort (extra hardware!) required... So yeah, around 2004/05 I acquired Monkey Island 1 & 2 (with voice actor's speech!) in a single package. Same story with Indiana Jones & the Fate Of Atlantis (Amiga, no speech, 11 fucking disks/diskettes!), and again 2004/05 picked up a double feature of Indiana Jones & Fate Of Atlantis and Last Crusade! Though Last Crusade definitely had no speech at all... Anyway, I'm rambling and I forget what thread I was going along! Oh yeah, finally, I wonder if anyone's done Zak McKraken and the Alien MindBenders walkthrough like this? I shall check in just a sec!
I feel your disappointment with that line, even though I myself probably say it wrong without having ever considered it. I get annoyed by "Empire STATE Building" when, given that New York is the Empire State, the accent should be "EMPIRE State Building." See, nobody understands us, haha
@@falconeshield Tf you talking about? Thats not like the new one! Those were still well designed by hand, the new one is all over animated. Never will get why with better graphs they cant display the in fact blue eyed Guybrush like he is shown on better pictures! With the 90s games it was too much for a detail but today common! They even made him cheaper than here with a cube head... plus the story ending is isssh

i tried to watch this but our gods damn bt internet is so rubbish at the moment it keeps dropping out, i can't even watch more than 3 mins without it freezing.
