The witness did NOT ID Tony soprano, the witness ID’d an old mugshot of tony that the cops showed him and the witness simply recognized him off this. The police told the witness it had to do with drugs not the mafia.

The ending with the small boat tipping over and the stugatts to me shows a metaphor on how mr big rich tony doesn’t care about the small boats (Davey) and can tip them over with ease (the bust out) with Tony smiling and wafting off into the sunset as he created havoc for someone else’s life
The newspaper, the witnesses wife read, said, “a high-ranking mafia member” this witness probably didn’t even know who Tony Soprano was. He was afraid now, that it was a high-ranking mafia member that’s all.
This was also kinda pre-internet so the average person wouldn’t know tony based off his current rank at the time. Maybe Jackie or Junior would be somewhat well known in the news but not Tony.

Ask yourself. Do you know the name and face of the current mob boss of Northern New Jersey? Probably not. But if out of concern you tell the cops you saw him doing something only to later find out in the newspaper it was him . You’re going to probably feel some kind of way.
Obviously not everyone is familiar with local organized crime figures and the police never mentioned that the person the witness identified is a known mafia member, it was only after the newspaper made it clear that the witness realized the kind of person he was accusing.
I don’t see what the problem is. It’s simple. The witness - after discovering it was TS he was to testify against - got scared, as he knew the chances he’d be ‘whacked’. You’re over-analysing the scene, over-complicating it 🤷🏻♂️
I remember watching this episode with my dad and sister in the living room and they never seen an episode of this series. So we're watching it and the Janice and Ritchie sex scene pops up and I quickly grab the remote to skip the scene and said to them "Avert your eyes!" and my dad was like WTF?!? and my sister was like Ew wtf?!? and I'm so red from embarrassment. After that my dad was like, "Did have a gun to her head while he was giving it to her?" And I'm like yeah.... It was awkward for a minute there. LMAO.
Its as simple as he recognized the picture but doesn’t know Tony by face. Plenty of celebrities or bad people that I know their name but wouldn’t be able to recognize in person

Honestly you have Meadow completely wrong. Like 100%. Almost like you are watching another show. Meadow would never strong arm anyone with what she knows. Geez she’s not Janice. Meadow was trapped in a mob family from birth & is trying her best to escape it. She does not want the life her mom chose for herself. That’s the source of her resentment towards her mom. Her mom wasn’t born into the mob. She chose it & chose to bring children into it too. Did you actually hear Carmela’s confession to the priest in S1?? Meadow is like her dad... without the criminal element. A true reflection of Tony if Tony wasn’t a sociopath from crime. Her comment that “everyone is a hypocrite sometimes” was just a wise statement that displayed genuine wisdom & was showing her level of intelligence at her young age. Wisdom Tony is capable of too if he wasn’t a drunk sociopath. Here’s how far off you guys are about Meadow. The writers laid out who she is & why she’s on earth back in S1. Meadow is a Guardian Angel. Go back & watch the ending of the S1 episode when Meadow sings All Through the Night with her HS choir. Listen to the lyrics & link them to the singer as the writers are clearly trying to get you to do. It’s a song about a guardian angel figure who lovingly watches over & protects loved ones from harm. As long as Meadow is around bad things don’t happen. Did Tony really just dodge a big bullet or was his guardian angel working some magic in the background?? Btw... Columbia Univ is in NY too. Sorry but you guys never had the makings of a varsity geographer.

Appreciate you putting us back on track with Meadow and for pointing us back to examples in season 1. About Columbia, we know it's in New York. In the discussion portion, we were focused on the schools Meadow got into, and the Georgetown waitlist. Currently, the talk this season surrounding Meadows school choice has been Berkeley vs. Georgetown. Your point about Columbia has us thinking that’s probably where she’s going to be heading.
