This might be the most underrated niche channel on YT. It's actually ridiculous.

I carry Dextrosol tablets (that’s glucose for anyone who didn’t recognise the brand name) and eat one before the ride and maybe one or two during the ride, before drinking water, depending on how hot the weather is and how I feel during the ride. I also stop and drink water intermittently throughout the ride (if I feel the to drink I do, whilst trying to pre-empt bonking). I used to carry cashews and sultanas to eat after the ride (if I’d driven somewhere nice to ride). Over 2 hours I tend to average 9-10mph, but I do sweat a lot seemingly from the top of my head (I’m forever using the arms of my wicking t-shirts to wipe sweat away from my eyes. My favourite gear is 3rd. I’ll have to try those peanut M&Ms. Great video graphics and clear explanation.

What a great video! I have discovered the same thing: More intense rides require a gel or two. However I found I didn't need them while touring, and instead had fun snack items, which added to the "holiday" feeling of the tour. Honestly my favourite was teriyaki ramen. =D. I stopped for lunch, boiled some water, and had one of the best meals on the whole entire tour...all for 79 cents. =D

What a great video, really informative. My wife and I were Ultra runners back in the 80's, it was very much trial and error with regard to on the run nutrition. Bananas and flapjacks were common, with a can of Coke left to get flat before drinking. One event saw the organisers send out for fish and chips! My favourite snack to take on a run are unsulphured apricots. They're succulent and sweet, easy to carry and don't give me the heartburn that the sulphured orange ones do. Once again, thanks for such an excellent channel, it's both an education and a pleasure to watch.

We do like bananas as well, but they are less practical while cycling as they bruise easily. Great before and/or after a long day of cycling.

Still happy with your Continental Urban by the way?
@devjon123
@devjon123 Год назад
@@2Bikes4Adventure Yes, very pleased with them, I'm tempted by the Continental inner tubes as the valve stem is shorter than my Schwalbe AV4 which can be a bit of a faff inveigling the head of my track pump to fit! I was also looking at the Continental Tan wall version, but they're too dark a brown.

Great comparison. Love it! I usually drink a cup of coffee and go to ride my road bike for 2 hs with no food. The gels makes the insulin go up and down to fast, better use our fat for fuel. For Bike touring, I always plan a coffee stop to rest a bit, toilette and fill my water bottles up. But I always carry some PAÇOCAS with me. It is a peanut candy that has Peanuts, a bit of sugar and a bit of salt. It helps a lot. And my favorite tip is to have some MINT DROPS. They are refreshing and very small to carry.

We are not into coffee, although Gilbert does go for an energy drink on occasion. We looked into “paçocas” online. Certainly something to try if we go to Brazil.

Another anti-bonk mix I like is about 50 ml of maple syrup with fresh lemon juice and a pinch of salt (on a hot day) in about 500 ml of water. On a very long, hot ride I also carry electrolyte tablets and add one to every bottle refill and find it helpful to stay hydrated. (When dehydrated, you will also bonk!) Maple syrup mixes better than table sugar because it is liquid and doesn’t need to dissolve. It tastes good with lemon.

Neither of both ... natural Nuts and Dryed Fruits Mix plus some Energie/ Nutrients Tablets that I can put in my waterbottle if I need it. (That's why i have two bottles - one for only clean water and one for water and maybe the Nutrients if needed.) Less Trash, easy to eat on the go plus healthy.

I like dates (or figs, which don’t have any pit), because they don’t have any artificial ingredients, have good sugar content, fibre and don’t require any fancy packaging or refrigeration. But I do carry a pack of Shotbloks as an emergency backup, because it does not melt in hot weather and can last a year or so. I saw you guys on the road today on Dawson, near Pine Beach. Isn’t the fresh tarmac great?

Your videos are always informative so maybe you can help me with a problem. I’m always feeling numb no matter what saddle I use on my Brompton. I don’t have this problem on my other bikes. Can you recommend something that might work, thank you!
@2Bikes4Adventure
@2Bikes4Adventure Год назад
We assume you have already tried replacing the Brompton saddle with one from your other bikes, to no avail. If so, the geometry difference between the bikes must be the culprit. It could be interesting to measure and compare the stack and reach of the various bikes you own to confirm this hypothesis. The Brompton frame being “one-size-fits-all”, there’s not much you can do except slide the saddle forward/backward or change the handlebar type (this may require a stem and cabling upgrade as well). (Ref this video for stack/reach vs handlebar info: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DeW6FUyZL8E.html ) Alternatively, Pam has good experience with a hornless seat (the SpongyWonder featured in our video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Kt5LyiivTZA.html ), so this may be a solution for you as well.

I suspect it is because you don’t have the same setback as in your other bikes. Measure from bottom bracket.

Find your saddle height by placing your heel on the pedal and extending your leg so that the knee still has a bend (ie: doesn’t lock out). Then try lowering your seatpost a little (say 5mm) and ride a mixed terrain circuit, a few hills over say 10 miles will let your body know if you got the position right or wrong; if wrong, try another 5mm drop and ride, that worked for me and my Brooks B17 Flyer on my Brompton H6R (44T). Also experiment with the saddle angle and separately with the fore and aft travel. I found too far back and/or nose up cut off blood supply in the ‘urals’ on long rides. For me, nose down felt like I was about to slide off, so level works best for me, using the spirit level on my iPhone. I see many riders that have their seatpost too high, this results in their hips rocking from side to side when viewed from behind, it also promotes saddle soreness and excess rubbing. I think some riders believe they need to drive the pedals downwards to extract maximum leverage of pedal stroke and therefore power. Whereas, first and foremost riding should be simple and fun, higher gears will give power.
