Ryan...Sean Payton dd not say that he knows how to evaluate quarterbacks better than anyone else in the NFL. He said he is good at it and he's glad that some coaches are not. Misquoting him like that & basing your argument for Nix starting on a false narrative is not what is needed from sports journalists. I credit you with being that...a sports JOURNALIST as opposed to just another guy with a mic. Question; Why do you ascribe more value to a first round draft pick than you do to a guy being signed in free agency? Stidham was the very FIRST move Payton made when he came to Denver, & at the time he signed him, he went out of his way to praise him for basically all the same things he sees in Nix. He's on video doing that if you want to find out if that's true or not. Here's something you might want to consider. BTW...that is also how he signed Drew Brees as well. When Payton signed Brees, he was heading into the NFL draft with his first ever choice to be the #2 overall pick. Three top shelf QBs were in the mix to be top 10 players selected. Everyone expected Sean to draft one of them. Instead he ignored all three & instead he signed a free agent guy coming off a down year in 2005, one in which he took a step back. Not only was Brees coming off a shaky 2005, but 2004 was his ONLY good season on a 5 year resume. But far more important than that was the fact that Brees was only 3 months past serious shoulder surgery that he himself later admitted he thought might spell the end of his NFL career. NOBODY in the NFL saw Brees as a future HOF player in 2006 when Sean signed him, and NOBODY is also who else besides Sean Payton even tried to sign him. Brees in fact, even failed his physical in Miami. Be careful about making assumptions about how you think Sean Payton views Bo Nix. He's not known to be a guy who is overly impressed by hotshot rookie QBs. This is the same coach that the press gleefully photographed spending a social night on the town with Russell Wilson & his wife & used it to show how firmly Payton was on board with Wilson. Everywhere I look I see people in the Denver media...both professional and amateur...tinkng they know how to read Sean Payton. That's a flawed perspective.
