Thrand continues his Deadliest Warriors of the Egyptian Bronze age series by fully testing a Pi-Ramesses II Egyptian Bronze Khopesh made by Neil Burridge. Thrand test it against Cloth head armor and an analog Ballistic Gel head to see how deadly it truly was!

It is honour that you let me test such great works of antiquity made in the old way by the hands of the greatest bronze age weapon smith of all time doing the work of the Gods.

Actually surprised at how effective the cloth armor was. didn't prevent the damage, but with one or two more layers, it could probably make many deadly blows at least survivable.

Agreed I think that's why textiles were so popular early period in regions clothing was not really needed.

There's a video of an Arab wearing his shemagh getting hit by the edge of a big plane of glass falling on him. He lost his headdress, but it seems to have saved his life! I experienced something similar, yet not as wild, when I tried to dry my hair and put a towel on top as the hair dryer only made me sweat. I then smelled something burnt and ran into the kitchen hitting my head on the door frame as I didn't duck enough. I lost the towel, but I had no cut and appear to have avoided a nasty bump...

Another thing to think about here, Thrand was getting some VERY solid direct hits to cause that kind of damage. Try to imagine how much that armor would mitigate a glancing blow, and how rare it would be to land such a powerful hit on an opponent that was actively resisting. It is fun to see the kind of damage these weapons can do, but this really isn't a fair test of the armor.

To Thegnthrand: If ancient Greeks never use Wooden war-clubs as weapons then why is Heracles wielding a wooden-war club on vase paintings and on Ancient Greek wall-reliefs? I think hoplites did use wooden war clubs too, but in single-combat only.

I really wish we could have gotten the Napoleonic Khopesh made, with how gnarly the bronze one is I can't imagine how beast a 30 inch steel one would be.

XD Scholagladatoria did a video on an Indian which basically that, a arming sword length Yataghan style Indian sword with serrations, the idea is extremely sound. Also, to make even more wild, the example was flipping serrated. One guy in the comments theorized is was designed for hunting tigers!@@demomanchaos

@@PJDAltamirus0425 I had a story behind mine to go with it, an officer in Napoleon's forces during his Egypt campaign stumbled upon a depiction of a khopesh and decided he wanted his sabre to resemble it to commemorate the campaign.

the if the concave base khopesh blade was also sharpened it could have also become a handy utility tool functioning like the modern tracker knife

Fun fact: the part of your brain that keeps you alive (aka the "kill zone ") is in the center of your brain. So the head cuts we see here, while debilitating, would not likely be fatal. At least not immediately.

Video idea that continues with the Egyptian theme: since the spooky season is upon us, how about wrapping a gel head in some linen bandages, and destroy a mummy for Halloween.

Great video is always shield brother. I tried to do a reaction video to this but apparently RU-vid is not allowing me to do so, I'll see more into it on why hopefully I can get it done soon though, because there's nothing wrong with it from what I can understand. But you are right on many of the accounts especially with the bronze skull cap, hopefully you can get one in there soon so that way you can test out all those bronze Age weapons on it and see which one actually does the most devastating damage on it.

So your wife brings up an interesting point. If the Egyptians believed that the brain was useless I wonder if they didn't go after the head as often in their fighting. I mean they must know if you cut them in the head or decap would kill but a more sure way to kill was to stab at the heart where the soul was. Its possible that a stab of the heart would destroy their chances of an afterlife. As for the Gallowglass as it is my name. Yes the official dates from from 1250-1618AD. Though Scottish mercenaries were known to come to Ireland during the cattle raiding season they never stayed until the 13th century where members the MacRory clan were given as wedding present to an Irish princess. The Gallowglass last hurrah was during the flight of the Earls where several companies made a last stand or carried the Earls out of battle. Someone name Gainsford in 1618 reported that the name of the Gallowglass were dead. Around that time most of the clans had been exterminated from the Turdor conquest of Ireland and their traditional fighting style was no match to the guns of the time. If fact many of the former clan members became highly sought after gunners themselves due to their discipline.
