Brooklands was the first permanent motor racing circuit in Europe, opened in 1907 near Weybridge in Surrey, England. It was a 2.767-mile concrete oval with high banking that allowed drivers to reach speeds of over 140 mph. Brooklands hosted many races and record attempts, including the first British Grand Prix in 1926 and 1927. The circuit also had various road course layouts that used the straight and the test hill. One of them was named after Sir Malcolm Campbell, who set several land speed records at Brooklands. Brooklands was also a center of aviation and engineering, producing many famous aircraft such as the Wellington bomber and the Concorde. The circuit closed in 1939 due to World War II and never reopened. Today, part of it is preserved as a museum that celebrates its rich history and heritage.
MG cars were among the most popular and successful at Brooklands, especially in the 1930s. MG drivers such as George Eyston, John Cobb and Stirling Moss set many records and won many races with their MG Midgets, Magnettes and EX models. MG also had a competitions department that offered advice and support to amateur racers who wanted to test their cars at Brooklands. MG cars were known for their performance, agility and durability, as well as their distinctive style and character. MG cars were an integral part of the Brooklands story and legacy.
