it's not that he's a hoarder but he needs a bigger bookstore to have room for all the books. If he was a hoarder then all the people who own bookstores are hoarders.
@praggypopsqa4652
@praggypopsqa4652 5 лет назад
No way he can afford another store. And no way he could qualify for a loan to get one. No doubt he has regulars, but they are not going to make him rich. Selling books is not profitable these days. Why do you think Amazon expanded its fare?
@notablematriarch4831

Yeah if he kept it organized/neat and had room for all of it (bc all he needed was a bigger store) then he wouldn’t be considered a “book hoarder”

Jeff Baker: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To a book lover, books are beautitful. If it were me, I would stack the books & other media a little more carefully, so they don't get damaged and maybe keep more careful records of what I had, but that's it.

This makes me sad. I grew up in Cobble Hill and would pass this bookstore all the time. I remember buying a book here for a school report. Sure the place was messy, but it had its charm and felt like part of the neighborhood. Like a landmark almost. Of course the neighborhood has changed so much since I hardly recognize it anymore. I wish him the best of luck.

OMG, Community Bookstore was what I Ioved best about living in adjacent Carroll Gardens decades ago! Few weekends went by when I did not spend a couple hours in the quiet shop -- at that time, admittedly not as densely packed as shown in this video. My favorite finds were unusual cookbooks and hardcover editions of novels I had loved first in paperback, some of which sit on my bookshelves today. I did throw up a little in my mouth when a Google search revealed the storefront is a real estate office now. However, the words of the dark-haired woman with the short haircut ring very true: we can't expect these special kinds of shops to be around forever and we should strive to create them anew. Wishing all the best to Mr. Scioli!

Kudos to John who saves these treasures, and to the donators who have enough love/respect for the written gendre to bring them to him instead of a trashpile. Book reading is a dying art, and may be eliminated altogether in the face of new technologies. And yes, I have shelves of beloved books I will never trash.

Very romantic, the idea of such a place as this. A place so small where you could get lost in more ways then one. It's a place of refuge and a den of chaos. A mystical sense of self buzzes within one whose unimaginable appetites for solitude will indeed go unsatiated. Some unknown voice speaks to any of us, begging at the precipice of wonder that we would relinquish our grasp of clenched fists whom cling to life so dearly. To take the plunge into this unfamiliar unfathomable chasm... It is awe inspiring. Can you imagine?

This reminds me of a very similar, massive used book store in Long Beach, CA called Acres of Books. The Long Beach store was much more organized though. It featured extremely tall shelves stacked on top of each other, and each stacked shelf was packed tight with what was reported to be over a million books. It was kind of scary going in there. Ray Bradbury spent many, many hours at the store, and he even name-checked Acres of Books in his essay, “I Sing the Bookstore Eclectic.”
