Head over to Costco and pickup some Scott’s Max - www.costco.com/scotts-max-law...
I drove past not 1, but 2 crazy overgrown houses right next to each other and thought I would stop to see what was going on. I knocked on both doors with no answer but they looked pretty vacant to me. That’s when the next door neighbor noticed me looking around and came over to talk. She told me that a brother and sister used to live in these 2 homes but they both passed away in the past 10 years. The grass never gets cut and it’s not only looking really bad for neighborhood but the yards are also making the rat and mosquito population get out of control. So, I spent all day making both yards look amazing again and I had over 10 neighbors stop by, thanking me for the work.

Stock it with Benadryl (only take one every 4-6 hours if it makes you sleepy),a clean shirt, clean gloves,a bottle of clean water, and a 32 oz. bottle of water with about a tsp. or two of Dawn dish soap. Also, keep a plastic bag in there to put contaminated gloves and shirts. As someone who is highly allergic to poison ivy, that’s what I would do. Just an idea; I hope it helps!

When you see a house that looks like 💩 and you want it, all you have to do is a little quick research into who owns it and make an offer. If nobody owns it then you go to the city to do the same. The city will make sure to look into any possible heir and if their isnt one will begin the process of taking it over and finding a bank to sell it. But if youre lazy and do nothing but day dream and expect others to do things for you or others to handle things for you then thats how nothing gets done.

@@k1n63dI don't know what State or City/Town you live in, but they don't "look into possible heirs" of abandoned properties. The son the neighbor mentioned probably doesn't want to deal with it. You can't just take over a property without going to court and paying $$ for research, deed transfer, etc. Maybe the son of the brother or sister didn't have a relationship with their parent, maybe there is an outstanding mortgage, or 2nd mortgage on the house. There's a LOT of reasons someone doesn't want to "inherit" a property, especially if it will cost them money up front to get it in their name, contact the bank if there's a mortgage, going through probate court getting authority as an unnamed heir, finding a will (if there was one), fixing it up to sell, selling it, and doing all the paperwork to accomplish all the previous things I mentioned. If this property was indeed unlived in for the past 4 YEARS, there is no electricity, water, homeowners insurance or property taxes being paid on the property. If that's the case (depending on where it is located), pipes will freeze and burst causing flooding and mold in the home. Banks are not in the real estate business. They never want to foreclose or "take over" an abandoned property (if there is an outstanding loan) on it if humanly possible. It costs a bank way too much time and effort to track down anyone remotely "related to" the property owner. They will "write off" their loss. This property most likely will continue to sit there deteriorating until neighbors (who live on either side) get on the horn to the Town Assessors office/building dept and start complaining tirelessly about the grass, rats or other vermin inhabiting the house, squatters moving in, etc. Apparently, the neighbors on either side don't care that an abandoned property is devaluing THEIR maintained property. This house will eventually collapse on itself and the Town will end up demolishing it and sell the land for a new house to be built.

I can concur. I've mowed yards since I was a kid, but never knew much about weed-eating, especially edging along sidewalks, curbs and such. A few years ago the Lord just started dropping more mowing opportunities in my lap without me even looking for them. I'm doing 10 properties this year as I did last year. What does all this have to do with your comment? I started watching LOTS of mowing videos about 2 years ago, from many channels (SB Mowing, Al Bladez, Cabin on a Hill, Copper Creek Cuts Lawn Care, Top Notch, Fill's Lawn Care, Tim the Lawnmower Man, and others). I was just telling my wife last week how proud I am of how much better my weed-eating has gotten. I can do it a hundred times faster now, my edges are MUCH straighter than before, and everything looks better, yet in much less time. That is all thanks to watching these various mowing channels, paying attention to their technique, and implementing what I saw.

Never understood how and why houses just sit there for years. Where i live, if a house becomes vacant for any reason the city look for someone within the family to take over, if there are none the city simply takes the house, and then resell it to someone else.

Second, I to have major problems with poison Ivy/oak etc. If You can Find a good doctor, they can prepare what's called "a compounding solution" that You take in late winter/ early spring that keeps your body from having the violent reactions to the poison Ivy/Oak and what not. Thanks for all You Do! God Bless!

This one contractor can take time out of his day to take care of this random house all by himself.. But the neighborhood couldn't come together as a unit and take care of the house for the ppl who passed if it was to much for one neighbor to handle by themselves or to keep it from getting out of control and becoming an eyesore? I appreciate what you do because I to take care of my elderly neighbors even after they passed until new people moved in. I truly believe in looking out for your neighbors and I value neighborly relationships. Even if its just a simple hello while folks keep to themselves. You got a good heart, brother.

It’s not that simple… Sometimes these houses are in probate as they try to track down who the owner might be. Other times they have issues that make them not habitable for renting. If you rent a house, you have to keep the property maintained and in good repair. ( so New roof, new ac/heater, sometimes new plumbing because pipe froze in winter … ) I lived near a vacant house on a huge lots. ( My house was on 6 lots so this was common in that small town) The owner was in his right mind BUT physically could not return home alone. He was in a nursing home for 10 years. He was on social security so all his money went to a nursing home and the home had no power/water for 10 years. All his “stuff” was in the home and refused to sell it. A family member ( this person had no children) came to mow. It was very overgrown with volunteer trees … Mulberries! I use to go pick the mulberry for jelly. As soon as the man died, they let the fire department use it and burn it down. ( Like a “practice” with a real house and they burned it down). It just was not savable as animals and mold from leaking roof. Someone came and cut down all the trees and and removed all the debris. They sold the lot to someone that wanted to put up a duplex in fall of 2019. Then 2020 stuff hit and construction materials rose in costs and the lot just stayed empty. Someone came with basically bush hog and took care of it every month or two. ( Like a pull behind thing on a tractor).
