Part 3: • Brother Marquis on 2 L...
Part 1: • Brother Marquis on How...
--------
In this clip, Brother Marquis started off speaking about how Uncle Luke joined 2 Live Crew right after him, and he explained that Mr. Mixx was a big fan of Luke's and appointed him manager of the group. Brother Marquis then detailed being on the "What We Are" album, which featured the hit songs "We Want Some P***y" and "Throw the D," which Brother Marquis admitted wasn't the style of rap that he liked. However, Brother Marquis explained that he liked performing the songs and seeing the crowd's reaction.
During the conversation, Brother Marquis also explained how 2 Live Crew member Fresh Kid Ice permanently injured his arm, and he went on to speak about Uncle Luke putting out MC Shy D, who had the hit song "Shake It," and Brother Marquis revealed that they're still in touch today. From there, Brother Marquis reacted to Vlad saying that 2 Live Crew changed the perception of full figured women and made big booties cool back in the 1980s. To hear more, including Brother Marquis reacting to some of his past lyrics, hit the above clip.

Vlad is wrong. So, people from Florida will tell you that the first 2 Live album came out in '85. You have to remember that they were super independent selling out of the truck and in mom and pop stores. Then, in 1986, when stuff got poppin, they got the album registered and they repackaged it in 1986. This happened all the time back then. So, in actuality, they didn't start counting their album sales until 1986 after most people in Florida already had the album. Another thing, many people from Florida would argue that "Get It Girl" was actually the bigger song from the first album. Luke and 2 Live definitely do not get the credit they truly deserve.

@Chumnley snoop actually I am somewhat of a hip hop historian. Not a rap historian. What's qualifies me. First, I have first hand accounts from living during that Era. Second, as a kid, I was at New York Productions everyday in Daytona Beach. On MLK which at that time was Campbell St. New York Productions is where Jam Pony DJs made many of the JPE mixtapes. I witnessed Big Ace, Lock Cool Jock, Slick Vic, and store owner Chucky Chuck mixing these records. I vividly remember in 1985, I was in 5th grade, seeing the 2 Live album right next to the LL "Radio" album. Back then, record stores would actually set up speakers outside the store and blast music all day. You couldn't help but remember the music because you heard it everyday. Here is another gem for you. Another reason Get It Girl got alot of play is because the lyrics of the song are clean. Only the Dolomite sample at the beginning and Esther Anderson sample towards the end has cursing, so it was easy to play the record and live edit. How do I know? Because I was there. It doesn't matter tho because you are trollin. Carry on.

@Chumnley snoop The problem with you youngins or non atleast 80's babies. Don't really know sh*t & sadly don't really wanna know sh*t. Now continue to show us your age & the basic fact that you not a real deal hardcore hip hop head. Meaning your personal opinions are not even valid.

2 Live Crew will forever be one of the fondest memories from my childhood. I’ll never forget being in the 5th grade, my school would have what was called Mayday in which no class, just fun activities on the playground. There was a DJ they would hire every year. I don’t know what he was drinking or thinking but out of nowhere he plays “ Hey we want some p**** The look on those teachers faces i will never forget for as long as I live...Priceless. Needless to say, we never seen that DJ again...

I don't think these kids know how significant 2 live Crew was. They came at a time where the Government was trying to ban rap, arresting artists-rap groups at shows, tried to ban profanity for any record. They are the reason why we have freedom of speech in our music today. They took the government to court and won
@MsPrettyB

The kids shouldn't know because most of their music wasn't for kids. It's unfortunate but children were exposed to it. Somehow the different genres of Black music seem to always evolve from good to evil...

Yeah... So True! 2 Live Crew was DEFINITELY the first rap group to rap & release XXX Rated Songs. I’m sure locally, many other rappers and groups were making those FILTHY style records but 2 Live Crew were the first group to gain attention nationally!!! I remember when I was buying my first grip of CDs in like 1992 (when I bought my very first CD player) I bought that 2 LIVE CREW GREATEST HITS CD. It was like $18.99 at Blockbuster Music but had to have it.

And yes, being from New Orleans Louisiana and going to Miami Florida on multiple occasions Miami was POPPING!! If anyone wants to see how Miami was back in those days, or how I lived when I visited and stayed in Miami, just look at vintage Movies and CD's of Miami Vice, NOT THAT NEW CRAP MIAMI VICE! And play GTA Vice City, both of those bring back so many memories. I MISS THE 1980's,
