Part 3: • Doctor Dre on Co-Hosti...
Part 1: • Doctor Dre on Meeting ...
--------
In this clip, Doctor Dre opened up about starting Concept Crew, later known as Original Concept, and later getting a show on WBAU radio in the early 80s. It was there that Dre met Chuck D and Flavor Flav, and it was through their conversations at the radio that the concept for Public Enemy was made. Doctor Dre went on to speak about meeting Eddie Murphy, who would come to his WBAU parties, and being introduced to Rick Rubin.
During the conversation, Doctor Dre speaking about Original Concept signing to Def Jam, and he added that he never saw any royalties from the six albums released on the label. He also spoke about going on tour with the Beastie Boys and experiencing racism during a show in Boston. After speaking about leaving in the middle of the "Raising Hell" tour, Doctor Dre denied that Rick Rubin came up with the concept for Run DMC's "Walk This Way," and he called Rick the "great theif."

A legend in his own mind. This guy seems worse than the fake T.K Kirkland account claiming to have been responsible for, or a part of everything that’s ever happened. It’s Comical and not believable... Even his claim that in 1985 Black people weren’t allowed to walk through the front door of a party club someplace in Boston, yet he was cool with that and played his set with the band. Do any of you know ANY Black man that would have accepted that shit in 1985? Absolutely not believable! I don’t believe the Beastie Boys would have played their set either and allowed that. He wants legend status and pity at the same time!

The reason Vlad hasn’t been doing certain interviews recently like this one & The Fertuado Brothers is because ever since the Hip Hop community has been calling him out on his unwillingness to apologize to Farrakhan he has been losing subscribers and thus feels if he takes a back seat on the platform such as doing most interviews and instead allowing viewers to hear a Black voice asking the questions it may stop the bleeding a bit.

That part about the Beastie boys in the limo being scared of Just ICE who was the original Hop Hoo gangster was hilarious. Doctor Dre is a icon along with Ed Lover and he was from the hood I grew up in New Cassel Westbury Strong Island Ny 💪 and he use to DJ at our park jams during the 80s when we had New Cassel day in New Cassel Park during the summer where people from all over Long Island and the boros came to our hood to jam with us. Dre was one of the itllest neighborhood djs

First... much respect for Doctor Dre. It is true he doesn't get the recognition he deserves...but really a signed business deal is a contract. Sounds like sour grapes and bad decisions. Second...when Rick started Def Jam he only wanted to be part of the music and leave the business side to Russell. Third, the Beastie Boys not getting paid was Russell's issue not Rick. There is a reason Rick left Def Jam. Lastly, and if you watch the Beastie Boys Story (documentary on Apple TV) you'll see that Russell address his mistakes with the Beastie Boys...“For years i wished i had been more sensitive smarter and compassionate in my dealings with them". Those are the facts...✌️

Artists are independent contractors. It's not the responsibility of the label head to "take care of artists". You sign contracts and that's how you get paid. That's the way the music industry operates and has for decades going back to blues and rock n roll. Not saying it's right but it is what it is and artists need to educate themselves on the business. It's a broken business model but it is what it is.

Unfortunately, in those early days of college kids running record labels out of dorm rooms, b-boys sharing rhymes & lyrics between block parties, cutting tracks in basement hallways, writing lyrics on paper towels, & jotting down production/mixing techniques on old notebook paper, many many people didn't get the credit they either deserved or THOUGHT they deserved...All due respect, but bringing up all this stuff now seems like a angle to sell his book (& to my point, he mentions his book about 25 times during this interview)
