I would never give Polight 1 dollar of my hard-earned money. But he is incredibly insightful and excellent and deconstructing ideas to their core tenets, and his analysis is almost always spot-on, on a much deeper level.
What people don't understand is that being teachers is an act of service. This is understood before entering this profession. Being a nun or social worker is an act of service. You can not choose these professions then complain about the money. Choose something else if financially you need more or simply just want more money. I am a teacher and of course I need money to live, but what ultimately motivates and drives you is your purpose. Find your purpose and live it.
Very few people will come to this world and just give their service but we as a society should pay teachers what they worth, nobody wants to walk through the world as a service guy
Man this all truth. Till this day I quote my teacher Mr. Afriyie from the 6th grade. "If you don't have a plan, you plan to fail". A Benjamin Franklin quote, but everyday he would put a quote on the board and tell us to define its meaning and that has stuck with me till this day. I love quotes, words of wisdom and analyzing information. This is why I totally understand the method as to why Polight home schools his children, because not every child is going to find the teacher he/she needs, but what is a parent for? Human beings are the only species on Earth that send their children off to be raised by someone else. You look at the animal kingdom though and you'll see the duck doesn't send his children to be taught by the alligators--you only see that in cartoons.

I understand the point brother Polight is making, however. As an educator I know what is required to just be allowed to interact with children in a classroom setting. Mayweather is a hard worker, but nothing should be taken away from from a teacher's training. Teachers are required the Mental dedication and work that is physically required from a boxer or any other life long profession.

First time I agree with EVERYTHING Polight said in a video. In Eastern and African cultures being educated is paramount. So many of our black youths are seeking out careers and dreams based on what they see can bring some wealth and happiness. This is a big reason I like seeing guys like Niel Degrass Tyson or even yes ... nutty Ben Carson being out there for all to see.

Carmelo Moni i agree but it's hard to keep your passion when the bills are piling up. i think teachers should make six figure salaries which should entice the brightest among us to fight for open positions like they do for doctors.
But to know you're dealing with other people's bad kids etc etc for damn near the lowest pay knowing these teachers also have lives and bills as well kinda makes it tough.

I hate when people say this crap about teachers needing to be paid more than athletes and entertainers because the truth is that they are. Only the absolute best athletes will ever make a dollar at their sports while some of the worst teachers on the planet are still getting paid something in the public school system. The reality is that people get paid to take risks and being an athlete or entertainer is a far greater financial risk so the top has to be higher to make up for the low bottom or we wouldn't have any sports or entertainment.

askchazzellis Even the best basketball player player pay is exorbitant. All they do is dribble a ball down a court and shoot it into a hoop. A teacher has to put up with a lot more. America rather have people entertained than educated. I'm not implying a NBA player shouldn't receive a check, but their pay is excessive.

Let garbage pile up and no doctor could save you from the diseases that you would get and that would quickly cause the downfall of any society. People pay you because they can't replace you and you demand to make that particular amount of money. Great teachers educate in many ways just like he does and that's why they get paid. To raise the salary of all teacher would be silly because you would be rewarding the incompetent ones that the system doesn't allow you to get rid of.
