Watching you scan then cut your images has reinstated my belief that it could be done. I have tried it so many times and had so much trouble I drew out my images and then fought to get them cut when stamped. I have pushed a little harder and done some stamping they way you explain. Finally it has worked. I couldn't be happier. I love this machine for all the reasons you have said. It was why I bought it. And I have the Cm350.. I have downloaded the workspace into my pc and now I can connect and see my pages right on my computer. You inspired me to do that. I cut out some large snowflakes for my front window. I am so grateful for all your insight and great education. You are very talented and inspiring. Thanks so much. Jnetti
Jeanette, I’m so glad you didn’t give up. Your comment made my day because I’m always hoping to inspire others with my crafts and tutorials. Keep on practicing. I also love ❤️ what the ScanNCut can do. More tutorials to come.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!! I love how you're teaching us how to use our machines! I had to call Brother's service ctr to have them help me register AND set up my Canvas workshop. I read and read and read and for me it just sounded like -----blah---blah---blah😥 You're a Machine LIFE/CRAFTY SAVER!🤗💖👍
You are very welcome! I’m glad Brother helped you so now you can take your machine on more journeys as you cut out even more files wirelessly. Thanks for your comment.
You are my great hope Kim. I have watched almost all of your videos and know if anyone can help me, it’s you. I have just replaced my wonderful Scan n Cut2 CM 350 with an SDX 125e and am regretting it. I’m a miniaturist and have always used the CM machine to cut tiny intricate designs from paper and 80lb cardstock. I got the SDX thinking it would cut thicker cardstock so I wouldn’t have to glue layers together to give the pieces stability. Much to my sorrow, while it will cut some things, it will not cut tiny intricate designs out of even the 80 lb cardstock though the CM cuts the identical designs from the identical cardstock perfectly . The SDX often chews up the paper and at least 70% of the time, actually ejects the pieces from the background and I have to stop the machine and use tweezers to retrieve them so they don’t get caught in the blade. It also deeply etches, though doesn’t cut through, the mat. I’m using a brand new mat and of course the blade is new as is the machine. Brother customer support just said they didn’t know what I was talking about, that it wasnt meant to cut cardstock and told me to call my local Sew n Vac who said they didn’t know anything about Scan n Cut machines and to call Brother. I’ve already given away my CM 350 so this machine has to work. I’m wondering if I should adjust the pressure on the blade or ??? Hoping you see this and can advise me. BTW I’m trying to cut SVG’s imported from Canvas Workspace.
There are so many things you can try like slowing down your cut speed and only transferring some of the cut lines. I often only send part of my cutting file to the machine. Also, you can use painter’s tape to help hold down your card stock. Also, search my turgid sharpening your blade.
Yes, when you live in a place with limited bandwidth, doing lives is kind of risky. I was just so excited to take it out of the box and start using it.
You mentioned earlier that the rollers on your DX was plastic. I've been using my 350 today and noticed mine are plastic too. I'm glad your new machine is working for you.
Yvonne, looks like mine are plastic after checking but they are smaller on the CM350 and grip a LOT better. The rollers on the SDX125 are larger and seem slippery.
So glad your new SDX is working. I have had two updates since getting mine. Your video inspired me to try Auto Blade again. It seems better since the last update. It seems to cut into the mat more than I think it should but not through the mat. I will try more materials in coming days. Cross your fingers. I don’t know if it will show on camera how the the cuts are into your mat. If so, I would love to see. Thanks and so glad you are happy with your machine. It is soooo frustrating when they do not work correctly.
Vesta, yes, my Autoblade also etches my mat. I am not worried about it as long as it doesn't cut through the mat. I will try to make it a point to show it as a basis of comparison for you and other viewers who may be having similar issues.
Well, one thing you can do even without a mat is set up your wireless. Here is my latest video on how to do that. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2ZTQzfOjWZE.html
I've just bought yesterday, SDX1000 in Australia), I think that is equivalent to your machine. Thanks heaps for this tutorial, I have so many stamps, I'm new to this machine but I'm excited
Yippie Rowena, you will LOVE it. Yes, it is the equivalent and you can watch as I share loads of tips and tricks to use so that you will be an expert in no time. Thanks for watching. Click the little bell and you will be notified when I have a new video.
Thank you for this video. I watched when you were having issues with your first DX. Then watched you cut the feather paper - then obviously your stamped piggies. I asked which Scanncut would be best for me as I am a stamper. Would only cut stamped images but also love the idea of cutting masks and stencils. I only plan on buying one Scanncut and keeping it. I have an original Cricut when it was only 6” wide plus Cricut Explore Air. Both of these have been used 1 time. I have about 20 cartridges and only 2 or 3 have even been opened-and that’s because they were loaned out LOL (the cartridges were loaned). So...I plan on selling all of those products and buying a Scanncut! Looking forward to not having to purchase more dies to go with my stamps too. Look forward to what you recommend...and please advise on where to purchase. Not sure if what you see on HSN is same as on Amazon, etc. Or should I buy directly from Brother? Thank you
I have 3 ScanNCuts - two were from Amazon and the latest one was from Brother. As you know, they stood behind me and send me a new machine when my machine wasn't working correctly. It was because it was within the first 90 days so whichever one you purchase, you should use it right away. Although I can now safely recommend both machines, as a stamper, you can do what you want with the ScanNCut 2. It is cheaper, reliable, consistent, and you will not have to mess with it very much. Out of the box, the mat will load, the images will cut, etc. Here is the model. Thanks for asking. This is Amazon. Brother ScanNCut 2 - amzn.to/2LqTtih
Papered Chef thank you for your reply. Can the Scanncut 2 store images and resize them like the new DX? Also it appears the older version needs an extra purchase of a wifi card to enable use with computer or iPad. The DX is already enabled. As far as I know both machines come with cutting blade and mat. I do use different weight (pound) of cardstock and thought the self setting blade on the DX would be a good choice for that. I also have A LOT of Tattered Lace dies that are very intricate...so was wondering if I cut them with my Big Shot then scan and store would I be able to cut over and over and possible resize. As I said I only. Want to purchase one time so want to make sure it will do as much as possible for my particular craft. I guess I’m leaning toward the DX because it is more quiet...and it seems to do a bit more. However you say the Scanncut II is the better option for my needs. If I go DX are they the same no matter where I purchase...such as Amazon, HSN, eBay, Brother Cannot get the II from HSN any longer. (Does HSN offer more in their bundles but somehow give you less in your machine) I am so glad Brother stood behind you on your purchase-would be truly rotten if they didn’t! Thank you again for all of your tips and tricks...and for your replies
@@1Cheribaby Both machines let you store and resize images. You can always store them on Canvas Workspace and on a thumb drive so you never run out of places to store thinks. The Big Shot does a much BETTER job with intricate dies. Use wax paper. No need to store dies because if you scan a die that it intricate, something is always lost in the scan. The real object is better. Use the metal dies for what they are best for - cutting intricate details. Use the ScanNCut for projects you find online and for scanning and cutting. That is what it does best in my opinion. YES, you do need a wireless activation card with the CM350 but that machine is much cheaper and so are the mats you need with it.
I cut out some stamped images using my new sdx125e and used an outline of 0.04 but noticed that it is not even across all sides . Initially I thought it was maybe because of the image , I was cutting out a snowman , but then I am not sure if it is a problem with the machine itself . The right side of the image seems to have a little bit more broader outline than right . Is this a problem with the machine itself ?
Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks for scanning and cutting. While watching this video I thought of an easier way to have colored images than to color each one using the mylar stencil. I would color one image, scan it into my Epson printer, send the image to either a picture file or a document file in my computer. From there I would click on the file with the picture to print it. With my printer I can make multiple copies of the image and then go to the Scan and Cut to cut it out. Thanks for your videos. I just now subbed to your channel. Hope you like my idea.
Helen, I love to color and to blend colors. That method may work for you but wouldn’t be fun for me at all. I like to share things I made and I like when my team members, students and customers can replicate the colors and techniques I used. Thanks for your comment.
In case you have not yet done this - you will want to update your machine’s firmware to VS 1.20 or whatever is the latest. I bought my ScanNCut from Amazon several weeks ago. It’s mat would not load from the very first try. I had to argue a bit to get Brother to replace my mat despite Brother promise to Ken Hess if Ken’s Kreations to replace all bad mat’s despite whether the machine and/or the mat was purchased during those specific 2018 dates Brother designated. Brother also told me to upgrade my new machine’s firmware. Brother’s phone service rep told me that part of the mat loading problem fix was to slow down the speed of mat loading. Don’t recall what firmware version my machine came but I updated it to VS 1.13 as instructed. Brother also released a video recently to show users how they should be loading our mats. Basically it tells us to line up the outside edges with the guides then lay our hands on the mat lightly in the middle front of the mat as it loads. The machine now slowly advances the mat into the machine instead off quickly as didnour ScanNCut 2. FYI: Apparently Brother announces firmware update releases on Twitter. I just happened to be on Twitter when I saw the notification to upgrade the SDX again to VS 1.20. So you might want to check your machine’s firmware version and update if necessary. Another FYI: As of weeks ago there were two woman with similar RU-vid videos advising out to convert our earlier Brother ScanNCut mats to work in our SDX machine’s. Ignore the videos by the possibly asian woman with a RU-vid name similar to TheGirlsOutfits. You will recognize here because ahe seems to work on the floor or a bed using what she says was a borrowed ScanNCut 125 or 225. Using her idea WILL get our old mats to load but the machine will not cut. The British woman’s tips will actually cause our old SnC mats to both load and cut.
Simon, I appreciate all of the comments. I also watched the video from Ken and that is how I found out what the dots on the mat mean. The very FIRST thing I did was to update my firmware when my first machine came. Here is the video. The mat still didn't load, the machine still didn't align and my wireless still didn't work. Here is how to upgrade the firmware even without wireless. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uVnD06_g_IY.html It wasn't until after Brother sent me a new mat that it finally started to load. I don't have to do anything special. My new mat loads every time. I had a defective mat. I also have a replacement machine which you are seeing now in this video. Everything is working correctly and after I hooked up the wireless, the firmware updated automatically to 1.20. However, even before that update, my machine was working and my mat was loading. Thanks for the warning about converting mats. I have many ways of resticking my mats and I have even tried more lately.
Hi Kim I have a SDX 1000 (Australian version of your 125) I’ve found that using the thinner card (Stampin Up regular white or similar weight) on the regular mat that it sticks and rips just like yours did. I bought myself the low tack mat and it works just fine. Also this machine has a scanning resolution of 600dpi and the CM350 is only 300dpi.......I’d love to know how you get on with trying to cut using the inside of your ‘bad’ mat stuck to a good mat. Be interesting to see how the auto blade deals with it... Love watching your videos and all the tips n tricks you show. Hugs Ali xx 😄
Ali, after looking up the resolutions of both machines the other day, I went about searching for a way to change the scanner resolution and the only way I could is when I was trying to scan a photo to a USB. I couldn’t find a way to do it with stamped images but I will keep trying and if you find out, please let me know.
Ali, thanks for all of your comments. I have been using a cut out Cricut mat on my CM350 mat and it works great. Also, I wanted to tell you that after just a few days, parts of my mat have already lost the “stick” so having a mat which is too sticky was only temporary. Glad you are watching.

Ali Fen Not a silly question at all. The resolution is so high that it recognizes more than the maximum number of objects that it can handle. Then, it shuts down without warning. If you are scanning photos, you want a high resolution but not for stamped images.
You can use any color to stamp with, even yellow. Any color will scan. I just like to use darker colors because they contrast better. So YES, use green. Thanks for watching.
Can I wash the mat my paper seems to have stuck in some places I just got this yesterday and am 70 not as computer inclined as I would like think paper was to thin
The reason I think it came out a little funny is that part of my pig scanned in as a double-line. The SDX125 is more sensitive than the CM350 which does a better job with the piggy using Scan to Cut Data. I will give it another try with a different stamped image for sure. This is really a simple process that I use all of the time for making stencils and masks.
If you are using a CM series, increase your blade depth. If you are using an SDX series, try increasing the blade depth. Either way, check paper isn't stuck in your blade holder.
So ....trying to watch your video but it keeps doing the same thing every time. When you zoom in I can hear your instructions but the video stopped. Tried closing & opening it several times but same thing happens.
Sue, I have no idea why but I have hundreds of tutorials and there are several just on the This Little Piggy stamp set. Here is a playlist for you. I am not able to easily edit a video after it is on RU-vid. Instead of fixing old videos, I strive to just keep improving my production quality. Hi Darlene, you need to set your Scanning / Cutting Position Adjustment setting. Here is a tutorial on how to do this. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8EVcwMewrWQ.html
In this video which I know you watched, you can see the technique which works with other scanned images as well. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eK0NxZxRjYc.html
Susan, I showed the concept in THIS tutorial. I have only done this with my CM mats. I didn't want to mess with my Autoblade so I didn't do this with my SDX mats. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-58jX5JKEgzk.html
@@PaperedChef I will for sure try this when I have two dead mats. Lol. One from Cricut & one from Brother and I will re sticky my Cricut mat for this. Currently o have only one Brother May so I will wait until my re sticky on that one doesn’t work anymore. The Brother mats are seriously not good by comparison.
Yes, sorry about that. This is one of the reasons I don't do live videos in addition to my schedule. Not to worry, I repeat the same skills over and over again as they apply to the projects we are doing.
Yes, live video is unpredictable. Sorry! I like it for the interactive experience with my viewers but I don’t like how how can control what happens during the live feed. Thanks for watching anyway!
Sorry, this video was produced a long time ago and my Internet was even worse than it is now. I have hundreds of tutorials so please subscribe and check them out (Play Lists) because you will surely find help for your ScanNCut here.
