It won't come for many years, but they have confirmed a final segment is in the works, I hope they take their time and perfect it, they must do their best not only to maintain the standard set by the older games, but also remain true to the historical battle in Bastonge. I think one reason they're getting cold feet with a new game(pun intended) is the nature of the battle of the bulge, it was the first and really only time the US forces played a defensive role, the mechanics of the game of commanding a squad to assault enemy defenses make use of flanking maneuvers really don't work here, most of the battle was sitting in foxholes, setting traps, and ambushing German units with the occasional assault to push back. It was really a stationary battle, the Germans were too afraid of US air attacks to move their armour into the open, and without armour they couldn't mount any worthwhile attacks, and on the other side of the coin, the US forces were too scared of the German tanks to make any offensive moves because they didn't have any credible anti-tank weapons. There were no heroic charges through the fields, or fast paced heart pounding urban battles, it was just sitting in trenches and foxholes trying to not freeze to death. There was the battle of Foy, but that was the 506th regiment, and everyone in the games are from the 502nd, which really didn't do anything significant. If they were to put focus on the small moments of heroism and big battles, but skip through the marches in the snow, and the hiding in foxholes, they would risk misrepresenting the actual events, and that would be a bad thing because the entire purpose of the games was to portray the events as they actually happened, rather than fictionalized altered reality. Above all the incredible storytelling and cinematic moments and shooting Nazis, the franchise is about authenticity, and to do that they would need to make a very boring and depressing game.
