One of my earliest childhood memories . . . I think Truman was still President . . . is being in a small room with my mother and a few of her brothers and sisters (there were many of them) with my grandmother on the old pedal pump organ, reading shaped notes, and they are negotiating over who will sing the alto and who will sing the tenor on this very song. My grandfather, of course, sang bass. A few years later, by the time I was 13, I was able to take over the keyboard duties.
