I just found your channel through the referral from Jerry Arizona. Greatly enjoyed the videos I have seen so far and respect your courage in tackling these challenges alone. Also, respect your decision to turn around when you did. I look forward to seeing your subscriber count grow.
I love that hike. But that spot where you turned around gets in your head. I would not try it with snow or ice there; good choice to turn around. I have a crazy rock climber/canyoneer friend who attempted all four and said he couldn't get the last one because of private property issues. His description made me decide it's not the 'hike' for me. When a rock climber says a scramble is dicey, it's beyond my capabilities.
I just learned they call that the Motherload. I’m with you Jerry, it looks a little too sketchy for me. Had I known about it in my early 20’s when I thought I was invincible, might have taken a swing. With 50 just around the corner, I think I’ll stick to hiking and enjoy living instead.
It is the real deal Thomas! There were a couple of places where a bad fall certainly looked like it could be fatal. I've missed my window to go try it again this year, its getting way to hot out there! Guess I'll aim for the fall. Unless I can get up the courage (and find a guide) to traverse all 4 peaks...hmmmm
I've been up there 4 items and only to the top twice. Once I was out of shape and inexperienced. Once I was recovering from a shoulder surgery after a hiking accident and still didn't have full strength and range of motion in one arm. The other two times were still scary but I did it.
Enjoy your videos, and Jerry's. Learning a lot. I just conquered Brown's last weekend. I was solo, but others were around. That helped. Further up it gets tougher going, but like Flatiron, once you do it... I trust I'll feel more confident the next time! And then, looking at some traverse videos across all 4 peaks... wow, it can be done... by some / others :) I still have Battleship to conquer first :)
Just completed this hike on the 13th (02/13/2022). Surprisingly difficult. There’s still a bit of ice up there but I’d say it’s definitely doable now. Although, one small misstep and you’d be in a world of hurt.
Dude, 3 things: Mid-December, 7600 feet... you didn't think it would be cold? You about made it, one little patch of snow left, can't believe you didn't finish. Alone?
From the ground, you couldn’t see any ice. I was surprised! That’s a class 4 scramble, my shoes were wet, slipping was too much of a possibility. Yes, being alone, I’m always thinking about self rescue. Figured it would be better to try when the chute was dry. I’ve since been back to right this wrong 👍
Never shame in bailing. We all have to do it even if experienced and trail hardened. There are chances I've taken that make me shudder years later but ice is a game changer.
