Review of the Browning b725 Hunter uk stock, one of the best shotguns for upland or walked up hunting, could this be better than the Beretta 687?

A beautiful gun - I bought the Black Gold model in 20g a few years ago - 2nd hand but the moment I saw it I had to have it. Unfortunately the gun had a botched repair that didn’t manifest itself for several months, a faulty trigger repair that it took an independent gunsmith to trace and put right. The shop I’d originally purchased it from (having paid close to the cost of a new one) had it back 2/3 times but their own gunsmith had failed to discover what the problem was. The whole episode left me totally disenchanted with the gun, the shop and their “gunsmith”. I intended to buy a new one but was persuaded to buy something else as I’d moved more in to clays by then. I looked for it at the NEC this year but the Browning guys hadn’t got one on display - a love story with an unhappy ending😢😆

Thanks although just to be clear, nothing wrong with this particular model I just had a bit of bad luck with the retailer I bought my particular gun from. I think Browning got it spot on with the “Hunter”, a beautiful looking gun for the money and I’m still tempted to just go ahead and buy another one because in all other respects, particularly looks it was “a keeper”. Love the videos.

But is it “better” than the Beretta? I was hoping for more of a comparison based on the title.

I got a 725 field. Spent days comparing the two, I really wanted to get the 687, but the wood wasn't as nice as the browning. Safety on the 687 is extremely stiff + they're not mechanical triggers. I even looked at disassembly videos for both, and the 725 is more robust and easier to fix (not likely that theres going to be issues with either) Point ability and fit were so close that I couldn't say I prefer one over the other.

@@sethook2970 Here the price of a 725 game gun is near equal to a SP 5. Or at least they have the same difference as between the SP 3 and the 725. However I know quite some people that like the Silver Pigeon also like the 725. From what I gather, the stiffness of the safety is a bit gun dependent, but also becomes better during use. Also Browning admits the 725 has a mechanical trigger that still needs recoil to switch between barrels. The 2 Hammers are indeed mechanical but it takes inertia to switch the trigger mechanism between barrels. Although I do not have a preference or see any advantage of one above the other trigger wise. The local shotgun dealer (official dealer for both Browning and Beretta) said the following; browning is a bit more robust, but the parts that need most changing take a bit more work, therefore cost more. In the end it all depends on your personal preferences about things, but I love to hear the reasons why people have their preference and why.

That's a fair argument. At my store, the 725 and 687 SP3 was only different by $200 CAD. Yes, I do know that the 725 triggers are not pure mechanical, but the inertia portion is more of a redundancy. I tested my 725 when I got home and it will still switch trigger mechanism on dry fire with or without a dummy shell. I suppose after some unknown amount of time it will eventually fail to switch on dry fire, but I don't expect that to be for many years with regular cleaning and maintenance. @@Jonsoh811
