This is an old gun I received from my father many years ago. He never really got into deer hunting back when I was a kid so he let me use it a couple of times and as a stupid kid I scratched it all up. He ended up giving it to me when I was around 30. In this video, I talk a little bit about this rifle and then I take it to the range and shoot it

I used to oogle over the Browning catalogs when I was a kid and never imagined that I’d ever be able to afford one. I have worked hard for it, but consider myself very fortunate to now own several Browning rifles and shotguns. Last year, I was finally able to find my BAR. It’s a Mark II in .300 Win and topped with a Leupold 4.5-14 VXIII. I’m a little embarrassed to say that I wasn’t able to make time to sight it in to use this season, so I’ll have to wait for 2024. My father didn’t hunt, so I don’t have any handed down guns. I’m a little bit jealous of those of you who get to shoot and take game with your father or grandfathers rifle. I can only hope that when my collection gets passed on to my children, that they can enjoy successful hunts with them and hopefully look back fondly on the times they hunted with me. As for your inconsistent accuracy, I have two things you might try. The first is that your rest has you in a bit of an awkward position. The rifle is quite low on your shoulder. You may get it dialed in at the range, but you may be off from what you’d expect when shooting game. Second, the recoil is causing that rest to move around quite a bit on you. Weighing it down some and/or adding something to the bottom that will give more friction against the bench should help improve consistency at the range. Hope that helps, and hope you have many more successful seasons with that rifle!

Bar owner here. First 2-3 shots will be accurate (where the gun truly is shooting), after that need to let the barrel cool or will start seeing the group open up. Kinda makes it a pain sighting in but for hunting purposes will never have that many shots anyway.

My grandpa was doing well in 1975, bought a brand new cadillac coupe deville, a new harley SX(T?)125 and a pair of matching 1969 Browning semi autos (BAR 308 and AUTO5 12 gauge). He sold the vehicles but I got the guns! They are so damn nice!

The best 30-06 Browning BAR factory loads are Browning ammunitions...The 155 BXR and 180 BXC both shoot sub moa in mine, if they can be found where you live. Hand loads with Speer hot-Cor 165 and 180 grains are both sub moa as well. Same for TTSX with max loads from Barnes manual.

@littlesilver2205 I know there is 2 different kinds, one is made in Belgium and another in Utah and other Countrys, I know the price tag on the original was made in Belgium and Utah, and other Countrys. This gun is made for Deer hunting, never had a problem always recycled, excellent firearm, next to my fathers Remington 30/06 pump thats very accurate. lol

I use to have a 30 06 I have been hand loading for 40 +years and have a pet load 165 Hornady IL powder IMR4350 56.5 grains, if you hand load and have the reloading books you check on this load, I also would double check any load from an unknown input, sure wish I had that rifle still but I sold it years back and bought back a short mag BLR it is also a sweet shooter has a little more snap than the 06 but it sure isn't necessary 06 has plenty of power,anyway I found that load to be very good and those IL bullets are getting a bit easier to find,the powder and primers are still alittle tough to find,shoot small and have fun,hope the load shrinks your group,a light cleaning can keep you shooting straight, good hunting .
@fuddlife

WOW, that's immaculate! I had a bar in the early 90's in 30-06 and couldn't get it to group worth a flip so I sold it. Likely a huge mistake. Back then I was buying Remington core lock from Walmart for like 12 buck's I think. I didn't know about the barrel heating, so maybe I should have tried a bunch of different expensive ammo first. I'm looking for one now. I want a 308 but they're impossible to find.
@fuddlife
@fuddlife Год назад
You have to try different loadings to find one that the rifle likes. Most of the loads I have tried have been acceptable for hunting around the four or five MOA. I haven't found the Goldie lox load that's just right and I have been shooting the rifle for years. To be fair to the rifle I haven't really tried to zero in on a specific bullet or powder. My brother had the 308 version and he developed a great load for his so I know the rifle is capable of good accuracy. Good luck and thanks for watching!

Sir I've acquired the same identical Rifle from my Dad. It was his Deer hunting rifle, and I'd like to know what can I use to wipe down the outer bluing part of the rifle and also the walnut stock. My house is in a controlled environment but I want to make sure I do the right thing to keep the rifle in best condition possible. Thank you so much for sharing that great video also 👍👍.

I use Ballistol but any high quality gun oil will preserve the metal parts. I use an otters gun cloth to wipe my guns down after use. The most important thing I do is use a dehumidifier where I store my guns. I try to keep the humidity around 50% relative humidity.
@Anth4044
@Anth4044 Год назад
