The "Browning Automatic Rifle" is really two different models from two different eras. This episode Andrew is taking a look at the BAR Sporting Rifle from 1966 to present day. We explore some design changes through the years, different grade levels and some gunsmithing tips. Of course, no discussion of vintage Browning is complete without a discussion of the infamous "salt-wood" years!

You mentioned the BOSS. I had an A-bolt in .270 and reloaded for it. The Boss is basically a tuning micrometer that had a sweet spot when you found it. I could shoot 3-shot groups in the same hole. I’m not sure why this concept never took off because it was unreal for accuracy.

They should bring back the Mark II. I love its classic, sleek lines over the "new age," angular, "pregnant Guppie fish" look of the Mark III.

I have the Longtrac in 9.3x62 and a Safari in 338 Mag and both are very rare now

I believe there are BAR Mark II rifles chambered for 458 Winchester Magnum and 416 Taylor produced by a custom rifle maker. I read about them and believe they are still being made. That is an exceptional interesting rifle I remember from years past.👍

Thanks for the video, please do a breakdown on disassembly and re-assembly of the newer Safari Mark ll .270 everything on line is of the older models, parts have changed and the older videos are terrible quality when it comes to individual parts and assemblies. Great rifles, little info on the newer ones on proper breakdown and cleaning. Love the channel.

I'm having difficulty finding what calibers the original Belgium made Browning sporting rifles were released in. I know that there was a 243, 270, 7mm, 30-06, 300 win mag and 338 win mag. But are there any other calibers?

I always wanted a Browning Safari im 30/06. Everyone i looked at had rust showing on the rear tang of the receiver. I am still looking for one, but that saltwood scares me off from purchasing those rifles.

Great video! Im looking at getting a 1968 30-06 Made in Belgium 267**M8 looks to be a grade 1. What can you tell me about it? Are these better left as is and well lubed or re-finish. Any reservations shooting? Ballpark value? Thanks again for such am informative video about the product line.

So 2024 is the last year for the BAR? Is Browning planning on building something to replace it?

My understanding from SHOT Show is that the model is being discontinued. To my knowledge there is no announced replacement at least with the Browning name. I wouldn't be completely surprised if FN introduces something down the road like they did with the Hi Power but that may just be wishful thinking. Hopefully Browning reconsiders but i imagine production cost vs sales numbers made the decision, again much like the Hi Power.
