About Dr. Bruce Bugbee:
Dr. Bruce Bugbee is an American scientist with a prestigious educational and research background with degrees from the University of Minnesota (Bachelor of Science), University of California, Davis (Master of Science), and Penn State University (Ph.D.). His work includes research into space farming with NASA to help develop regenerative life support systems. He and his students developed a dwarf variety of wheat that has been used in several studies on the Space Station, and he is currently working with NASA to study the use of fiber optics for growing plants in space.
After 34-years Dr, Bugbee is still located at Utah State University, where he is the Director of the Crop Physiology Laboratory. Athena is proud to be partnering with him in our pursuit of commitment; to never stop innovating. Innovation distinguishes a leader from a follower. Partnering with Dr. Bruce Bugbee at Utah State University allows Athena access to a team of research analysts running trials for various studies. Results to further develop better products and more consistent methods of cultivating the plant we all love.

@Athena AG - so have you found information on the maximum amount of UV the plant can take without damage? I’m curious if UV light ((200-280)) could be used in higher levels of intensity to subdue or eliminate pathogens like fungus or mold on the leaves? Maybe not for 24/7 radiation, but daily light baths to help keep the plants clean? This stuff is incredibly interesting. Thank you for sharing!

UV-C is used in greenhouses for sterilization. It damages the human DNA so there are companies developing robots that carry these UV-C lights between rows when no one is at the greenhouse. Too much of it will harm the plant though.

I think it’s important to note the specific language used in this video. I’m curious if he implies the same for terpenes or not. There seems to be evidence that Terps are enhanced by UVb. • Cannabinoids: Active compounds that interact with the endocannabinoid system (e.g., THC, CBD). • Terpenes: Aromatic compounds that contribute to the flavor and aroma of cannabis and may influence its effects ( Myrcene, Limonene, Pinene, Linalool, Caryophyllene).

I remember a previous video in which the same Dr mentioned the beneficial effects of using red and UV rays and now it turns out that none of that was correct. What I do know is that I have seen 2 LEDs of the same brand work, one next to the other with the difference that one has more red and the one with more red produces much more.

I use far red ( use the bloom channel instead of the veg channel ) during the first 10 or so days of veg to incite the plant to grow taller without gaining the structural weaknesses of etiolation. Seems to work, yet the effects are so small - as today's tiny far red bump in LED lights cannot work any miracles - that I'm not entirely sure it couldn't also just be the genetics.

How does the concept of "hardening" a plant to prepare it to move it outdoors work?
@freedom_born
@freedom_born 3 месяца назад
Incremental introduction to outside. Gradually increase outdoor hours until ready to transfer. Just make sure you've got your seasons correct
@freedom_born
@freedom_born 3 месяца назад
You can just bring them out during sunny days, then take em back in under the lights after sundown. Then repeat again everyday - if sunny. Just be sure they're grown enough to handle the elements
@stevenlee2202
@stevenlee2202 3 месяца назад
@@freedom_born But why does it work? Whats different
@freedom_born
@freedom_born 3 месяца назад
@@stevenlee2202 Why does hardening work? The last 4 words of my last reply explain: "to handle the elements" The plant can't acclimate immediately, so it needs to be eased in. Ofc depending what stage/age it is, but if you're going from in to outdoor, the conditions aren't the same. That's *why* hardening is required.
@freedom_born
@freedom_born 3 месяца назад
@@stevenlee2202 I remember trying to explain that potassium also won't fix your white tips. Which leads to not transferring unhealthy plants outside until they're healthy again. However the white tips can't be fixed with potassium - as you now suggest it might be your lights.
