Army's won a championship before, albeit in a very different era. But it can happen again! Any college football fan should love this run as well as Navy's

Army’s won 3… in a row. They also have 3 Heisman trophy winners, albeit, in a different era.

Army-Navy can't be for a playoff spot because selection day is actually before the Army-Navy Game. But if both teams win out they'll meet in the AAC Championship and then play again the next week. It is extremely unlikely but there's a scenario where they play 3 straight games (AAC Championship, Army-Navy Game, 1st round of the playoff) if somehow the winner of the 1st game ends the season ranked somewhere between #5 and #8 (not unlikely for a 12-0 Army or Navy) and the loser gets ranked in the inverse spot (less likely for a 11-1 Army or Navy).

which game? the future AAC championship game or the traditional game? both gonna be expensive

For the second and meaningless version of the game? The first one becomes the real game….with everything special included plus the playoff implications. There’s just no way to make a second game important. What is the loser of the first game playing for?? Bragging rights? Nope…already lost those.

If Army and Navy both make the AAC championship game then it is my understanding that the scheduled Dec14th "Army / Navy Game" will be a stand alone game not counting toward standing and the winner of the AAC championship game will be considered for the allotted playoff slot. (P.S. Rich thinks like NFL and that is cool, but the idea of the official ARMY/NAVY Game being a step in a playoff would be insulting to the tradition. I like that this system keeps it pure),that said, love you Rich.

This is correct. Surprised Feldman didn't know. But I think BSU will get it. They almost beat Oregon on the road, they might be able to lose, especially since both have to play ND.

It's possible though not likely that Army & could face each other in the AAC Championship Game. It would be really weird if they played each other in the Championship Game, then again the following week in their regular game. And as someone mentioned, it's happened before where a highly-ranked Army or Navy team got upset by the other in its annual game, but then continued on to play in a major bowl. And it would be really bizarre if one of them one the Championship Game, and the other won the following week.

@@ryanblosser6081they have to play UNLV more than likely twice. they gotta beat them twice. everyone saying Boise State like there’s still about 9 teams in contention

Nice to see the service academies getting some respect for finding a way to compete in today's D1 college football environment, in spite of their old school approach, high academic standards, and the 5 year service committment. Air Force is having a rare down year, weakened by graduation. They will be back. Navy is having a good year, and Army has a really good team with a no nonsense coach, who has instilled a strong team culture at West Point. The book, "When Saturday Still Mattered" tells the story of Army's 1958 football season is a good read. It will give you some perspective for why the resurgence of service academy football is so special now. Go Army, beat them all.

I agree... I watched Air Force play a couple of times this year and I think they have a good program, but they seem young and inexperienced. They're right on the cusp. Next 2 years should be interesting out there. Their young core just needs more reps in the system. I could be wrong though.

@@dirtyhiggins5484you're welcome. Great book. Without beating it to death, the author explains the debate between football and West Point standards that have confounded Army coaches for years. Explains a lot about why Army fans are the way they are. 😊 Coach Monken is different. He embraces following the standards with his players rather than fighting them. Monken is an interesting coach to watch and listen to.

@michaelwall3393
@michaelwall3393 5 дней назад
@@JM-wf2toI guarantee you that the second or third place potential teams from ACC & Big12 and the 4th place potential teams in either SEC or BiG10 will be hoping that Notre Dame falls to both, as would open the door for a second G6 team as well as a second ACC & Big12 team and fourth team from either SEC or BiG10. As a Navy veteran and Devil Doc of 12 years, I hope both teams pull it off beating Notre Dame and face each other twice and Navy wins both games. I am hoping that another G6 team is eligible and worthy as well. That means if both ACC and Big12 finish with at least 2quality teams that belong in the 12-team playoffs, no way will SEC and BiG10 get more than 3 teams in a piece and two for the other two A4 conferences and two G6 teams, and G6 teams get to host first round matches or one does.

Stories like this, possibilities like this, teams like these, are why the B1G and $EC, no matter how much they protest or try to convince us how singularly important and special they are, will never become the "be all end all" of college football.

Petition to cancel the mid December game IF they meet the week prior for the conference and potential CFP birth. That game becomes the true Army/Navy game with the normal standalone one becoming meaningless quite frankly. Everything that makes the game special would be on display a week earlier with the title/playoff implications layered on. Playing again isn’t only unnecessary, it undercuts the rivalry by creating a dumb “split” opportunity. They’re supposed to play once and only once every year. 99% of the time this conversation will be unnecessary but please don’t play twice.

The service academies should let players go directly to the draft, and then for their service just let them work as recruiters during the off season. They would get better athletes, and probably boost enlistment in the process.

Navy has a tough schedule. Charlotte isn't great, but is coming off a bye. That gives them more time to work on the nuances and assignments for the Navy offense. Notre Dame is tough. @USF doesn't appear as formidable as people projected in the preseason, but haven't exactly lost to bad teams. They could have kept them closer, but still can pose challenges. Tulane will probably be vying for a spot in the AAC title game, and probably should have beaten K-State. Army has an easier road. @North Texas can be tricky. Notre Dame is the big challenge, but won't keep them out of the AAC title game. They could still get into the playoff at 11-1 with a loss to Notre Dame if UNLV knocks off Boise State. It would be so very college football, however, if 11-1 Army gets into the playoffs and proceeds to lose to Navy the week before facing OSU or Oregon.
