Bless Brucie. Unconditional love for art and artists. He just got it. And he appreciated what he had. And he recognised the hardships of those who didn't enjoy his own privilege. He did everything right.

Pity he gave too much to show business and not enough to his kids the history repeated it self raised with only 1parent experts say we do what we known or teach to us so true 👍👍

@@mariadasilva863 ,unfortunately when your in showbusiness it does affect your personal life.sammy davis jr.lived to perform.his entire life was to be on stage to entertain.sammy felt even when he had throat cancer,if he couldnt entertain then life is not worth living.but above all sammy was not only the greatest entertainet but a humanitarian.he never declined performing for benefits for a good cause.there will never ever be another sammy davis.jr.from robert,the s.f.giant fan

I am thrilled beyound words to have seen this masterpiece. Mr. Forsyth seems to be a wonderful and kind soul, Im sorry I didnt know who he was. I adored Mr. Davis. And seeing him live on Browdway in 1978, and again in 1978 at Lincoln Center in NYC, It was a dream come true. Getting to meet him and talk with him out side of Elaines on NYC East side was a memorial experience I will always cherish. Thank you for this wonderful post.

Great documentary! It's always interesting to hear about American entertainers from a British perspective. Just one thing wrong, the narration made it sound like Harlem is not in Manhattan (it is).

For some reason, Whites throughout the world are under the misconception that Harlem is somehow not in Manhattan - even today. I am originally from the culturally rich mecca of Harlem referred to as Sugar Hill.

The reason Bruce didn't know how hard it was for Sammy David Jr was because Sammy probably never mentioned his struggles.

I seen Sammy at the Fountain Bleu Hotel, I was a teenager and and my friends father had fee tickets to see him. That was like 1974 75 or 76 cannot remember. I really enjoyed the show.

correccion, la madre de Sammy Davis era puertorriqueña , no era cubana
@brainsareus
@brainsareus 7 лет назад
........ Hay evidencia de lo contrario;asi que,no estoy seguro si fue Cubana o Boricua. se sabe,que el dijo que la madre era Boricua,pero sabemos que no conocia mucho de ella;y ademas,a lo mejor el pensaba que era controversial hablar de herencia Cubana,con todas las tenciones entre Cuba y los estados unidos que existian,y aun todavia existen. so,the jury is out in my opinion;as to whether Sammy's mom was Puerto Rican,or Cuban. I've done a little research,i am now sure that his mother was Cuban,not Puerto Rican;&, as i suspected, he said she was Puerto Rican,so as not to stir controversy over the already bad political situation,between the US &Cuba. Abel,estas equivocado!!

He bought Jerry Lewis a Rolls Royce and Jerry Lewis sent it back, coz it was the wrong Colour, Jerry Lewis was an UNGREATFUL OLD FK, Sammy Davis Jr had more talent in his little finger, Lewis pissed a lot of people off, I wonder why???

Maquismo is not a word..............It's pronounced, Mah-Cheese-Moe....Machismo. BTW-Shameless political ploy by Nixon,the old Brit dude in this doc is so bloody naive. Nixon was a total racist.

I don't think Nixon was racist..and the Brits did not mind interracial marriage even when it was illegal in the US so they kind of knew who was "not so good"..a Brit will tell u like it is

You do realize,that Harlem is IN Manhattan ? Sorry to say,but there is nothing "amazing" about Sammy Davis not selling on Motown. young black and white audiences;were not going to listen to what to them,would have been perceived as corny "Vegasy" lounge music.

Tap dancing is very clever but also boring. And there are millions of singers and comedians. I prefer to watch good looking men. Why would I as a woman want to see male “entertainers” who are not handsome/sexy? Bruce Forsythe was another one - talented and skilled but boring and not anyone I’d want to see because he had no looks. I don’t think I’m being unfair. After all, nobody employs a fat or ugly chorus girl, no matter how well she can sing and dance.
