@steve ferry. He lived in US for a decade. Creating his own martial art, the most visible martial artist in America. Ask yourself 1. If you basically say you are founder/grandmaster of a martial art, would you remain unchallenged for a decade? 2. Hundreds of eyewitness in US did see BL take apart whoever challenged him, or when they saw him, they declined to challenge him. All you have to do is research the interviews, print and video of the top names who were actually There. 99% of them admit that BL was untouchable.

@@PREDATOR-zf8dd I stop debating with people who weren't even born during the time of Bruce Lee life. But if you are aware of his influence, Philosophy and training techniques. You wouldn't ask this question Dana White who is the credited for saving MMA. Has been interviewed many times and in almost every interview he says how Bruce Lee was so far ahead of his time. He was doing shit that is very much parallel to what we see in MMA today. This is why Dana White himself deemed Bruce Lee as the Godfather of MMA.
@PREDATOR-zf8dd
@PREDATOR-zf8dd 6 лет назад
Champion heart how old were you in 1973? Dana White isn't old enough to remember Bruce Lee. Dana White is a business man first. MMA wasn't a big thing in China until Dana White ran his mouth. Bruce Lee proved absolutely nothing with JKD. Dan Inosanto is the one behind JKD not movie star Bruce Lee. Published in 1975 which was two years after he died. Plenty of evidence that Dan Inosanto is the one and used movie star as advertisement and Inosanto net worth is millions. Not many self defense instructors worth that kind of money.

Monks and the Masters , agree 100%! Bruce Lee came out to demonstrate the proper way to use Martial Arts. His love and Belief in this art of Chinese defense was a way of life and deserves much respect and a proper way to use it and live by standards and this is what he was really seeking in that sense. My opinion. He wasn't out there seeking recognition or popularity. He was trying to teach the real meaning of what true oneness with the oriental self defense was all about, and the unlimited ways it can be used. United States like they have done everything else tried to take it and make it their own, which was very limited. He said how can you call it a competitive sport when the competitors wear all the protective gear they wore and scored by moves and not actual combat? There was no way to actually score the way they had it set up. He also said it was giving a false sense of position. How was anyone really going to be able to protect their lives in a real battle when they had never actually been in one. That it was also a false sense of protection teaching marital arts in a self defense belief because of the reason Martial Arts became in the first place, as a form of protection again those who were out to destroy the Chinese it was brutal, when you are being attacked , being robbed , those people are not trying to be gentle or not hurt you. These people will kill you and you need to come at them as the aggressor fighting for your life making them the one to leave. Bruce Lee was an actor ,he had been in movies from a very young age. United States wasn't really interested in Bruce Lee even when he went to those in the industry with his idea of a movie, so he went to China and made a deal with someone out there. Made the movie , was very successful and you know how greedy America works ,no shame. Wanting a part of the money they sought out Bruce. Bruce making movies being a movie star was totally sperate from Bruce being a Master in Martial arts and they Badest dude we have ever seen and known in Martial Arts. No one comes close to what Bruce was capable of.

He was different bcuz of the amount of studying he did on the human body and the science he out behind his technique and the time he took to master it. He accomplished more at 32 than I believe anyone could pertaining to martial arts and advancement of Asian acceptance had he lived it’s hard to imagine he would’ve been even greater bcuz he wasn’t finished. He was an anomaly almost a freak of nature the creator definitely broke the mold after Bruce and to this day he still continues to inspire and set the Bar. I’m 48 and I remember as a kid watching Kung Fu Theater and then I remember seeing Bruce Lee and there is no comparison to him!

He was/is the Greatest because he genetically had it all. Phenomenal skill, Charisma, Drive, Genius, Looks, Film Presents, A unique ability to effect people not only on screen but also in real life. He was a Dynamo, an Iconoclast, A perfectionist, Creative ... A Power House in every since of the word. He had the Whole Package bar none. Even though there are/were better Martial Artist, better Actors ... No one had/has the Magnetism he possessed. I could watch BL films a billion times and never get tired of him. I can't say that about anyone else no matter how good they are. Even though the Man is gone his Spirit will live on. Mr Stroud, we appreciate your honestly and forthrightness concerning the great Bruce Lee. I Sometimes hesitate to tell this story because I have been accused of making it up. But I'm going to repeat it here because of all the naysayers out there. My older brother Ron worked for a private Ambulance Service in the Los Angeles area. He was teamed up with a new partner one day and they started talking about sports and the gentleman, by the name of Larry hartsell and he mentioned that he had been teaching karate at Ed Parker's Studio on Santa Monica Boulevard. This was around 1969 or 70 before Bruce really became famous. Larry was a pretty good size dude and quite a Grappler. He mentioned that he took some private lessons with Bruce in the LA area and that they would Spar together and he couldn't lay a glove on Bruce. For the record, this was a real sparring session. Larry would often give my brother some private lessons and new techniques that came straight from Bruce Lee. My brother Ron and Larry ended up becoming roommates and one day he told my brother Ron, I have an invitation to Bruce's birthday party at the Golden Dragon restaurant in Chinatown. At the time Ron was a little skeptical and when they went down to the restaurant and Larry asked one of the waiters about where the birthday party for Bruce was, the man was like...." Bruce who"?. And my brother thought that it was a joke, but then he said his real name in Cantonese...Lee Jun Fan. Then the waiter got all excited and started pointing upstairs to the second level. So Larry and my brother Ron went up to where the party was and Bruce dropped out of the conversation he was in and walked over and said to Larry..." who is your friend"? My brother Ron was really impressed with his friendliness and politeness. Larry Hartsell was a accomplished martial artist in his own right and yet he believed Bruce Lee was one of the best martial artists alive. It is my belief that my brother Ron had gotten to know Bruce, Bruce might have put him in some of his movies?

Bruce Lee had his armpit glands removed which also prevented his body from excreting heat. This was terrible for the state he was already in. He over trained , worked 20 hour days , under tons of stress couldn't eat was paranoid , had rage attacks , was depressed, carried a 357 around for protection , slept with a sword by his bed side when he did sleep, had affairs with other woman Betty being the main lady. He just didn't listen to his body may he rest in peace he was a incredible man put just like us all ,no man is perfect I'm not trying to say anything but he should have stopped and got himself together, but the injury to his back prevented this because without the injections he would not have been able to do what he loved , a really hard choice. He was a warrior and chose his path.

I agree that Bruce Lee was the greatest martial artist of our time. But if u say there were martial artist in China better than him I don't agree. Aside from Bruce Lee's speed and his study of the human body and how to maximize it's potential what made Bruce great was his knowledge of so many different fighting systems and taking what was useful. Let's not forget that in Bruce Lee's time it wasn't an accepted thing to have different teachers of different styles of martial arts. Nobody was gonna beat Bruce with knowledge of just one style of fighting.

Well said, bro teacher. Bruce lee is the greatest martial artist of all time. His peers have said so. And no one at the height of his popularity has challenged or disputed this position. Bruce Lee's talent was bigger than the point karate tourney of his time, point blank period. And again You are right bro teacher....for all the supposed great martial artist that might have been up in some mountain or hidden away somewhere, it is not any ones fault that they could not challenge bruce or what he was preaching in the era he was most vocal about the martial arts and how it relates to real situation. Bruce lee is the truth, point blank period.

Silverfox Silverfox , stars are not created equal. Each may have contributed to the same cause. But some more than others. Martin luther king more to the civil rights struggle than malcom x. Bruce lee, certainly to martial arts than anyone else. Notice that in both cases, statues were erected to martin luther and bruce lee, a clear indicator that their contributions in their respective field was head and shoulders way above anyone. Of course there are others who contributed in getting the martial arts to where it is today. But non as much as bruce lee. His contributions were pivotal and ushered in a dawn of a new era in martial arts.
@sundayaito4366
@sundayaito4366 6 лет назад
Silverfox Silverfox ,i get your point alright. Who are the fans after all? They are essentially the government....so either way, the people of hong kong and china have recognised bruce lee by puting up that statue. It will be foolish of the chinese government to down play the role bruce played in selling and promoting chinese culture. But i doubt if they do .
@sundayaito4366
@sundayaito4366 6 лет назад
Silverfox Silverfox , bruce lee was popular in all of asia based on just three films he made before hollywood came calling. He was destined for greatness in that it is unheared of at the time for an actor to all of a sudden have an elvis Presley type of cult following based on just three films and to have a hollywood major studio wooing him with a contract. This was extraordinary and an indicator that either way, Bruce would have attained the level of popularity he has today had he continued living. So your saying bruce only got very popular when he died is not an accurate way of judging the reasons for his popularity. Linda lee, with the help of others may have ochestrated a campaign that further made bruce lee popular after the release of etd, lets not forget that its the quality of work in bruce lees films that counts and that continues to form the basis by which fans hungers after any information on him thereby driving his popularity through the roof..... As to the average joe out in the street, it will be difficult for them to shake off the image of the bruce they see in films bustling with energy and a type of passion and swag that is unprecedented, to just dismiss him as an actor and nothing more.....like bruce lee himself said, if you honestly express yourself in whatever it is you do, people will pay attention. And that's what he has done in his films, and trust me, it takes a special talent to do the things bruce did in his films, not just acting. His peers like jim kelly and others have validated him as a great martial artist....how else do you want me to prove it??
@sundayaito4366
@sundayaito4366 6 лет назад
Silverfox Silverfox , i have defined all there is to define. Jim kelly and rhoo were martial arts champs and master of the art respectively. They have validated bruce lee by saying he is great. What other defining do you want me to do? True, bruce Lee's films may be dated, and other films may have surpassed his films at the box office, but non holds the magic that bruce lee films possesses. Just four films he made defined not just his generation but other generations to this day.....bruce Lee's films were made four decades ago and the man has died in that period, yet to this day, the power and magic in those films have continue to propell his legend forward....that says a lot if you ask me. And since his death, we have had many fantastic kungfu films made with awesome cheorography. But non quite have the magic of Lee's films that captures the moment as to revolutionise the martial arts on a global scale....Diana white, who is the president of the biggest MMA company has dubbed lee the father of MMA.....there is a reason for this. Am i however saying that bruce lee is the greatest at everything? No, this is not what i am saying. I am simply saying that bruce lee was the greatest of his era and that his films continue to be viewed favourably and put over most films today as one of the greatest kungfu films ever made....it certainly will be number one on top 10 of such films. People may come along and surpass bruce in all that he did that made him famous, but if i am being honest with you, i dont see that person yet. Jackie chan came close, but he too fell short of having the magic bruce lee had....

One thing is for sure Bruce Lee does seem to bring up heated debate,but what thing is for sure in making his movies he really made a name for himself and just because he went down this route instead of entering semi contact tournaments.We should be grateful that due to him Martial Arts reached a wider audience..Ask the normal man in the street about martial art champions in any form of martial arts and I guarantee they would struggle to name 5..But if you mention Bruce Lee his name would be recognised in an instance.Just wish people would be happy with that instead of critiquing him just because he chose a different career path.

Bruce boosted martial arts through movies he became a worldwide star through death get real im a fan of Bruce but you are so monotonous with creating bullshit that surrounds Bruce you actually disrespect his memory ..he trained with champion martial artists to boost his reputation & they saw him as a ticket to get into movies etc mike stone said it joe Lewis said it..yes he was a great martial artist teacher with great ideas but the No1 main reason they hooked up with him was because they were desperate to get into TV or movies they knew Bruce had connections in showbiz even bob wall has lied for years say he was friends for 12 years he only met him when he tagged along with his friend chuck Norris when Bruce offered him the role in a movie ..bob got what he wanted a movie part also , he knew Bruce for a few years if even that ..Bruce was great in the movies he was not a fighter he had a lousy attitude to be competitive they all said it but he was a great teacher so stop disrespecting Bruce lee with mythical bullshit & celebrate him for what he was the first martial arts movie star ..his main goal in life .

Just a question for you sir? Have you read Mathew Polly's book about Bruce Lee? I have and I would love to know what you think? Its very detailed and creditable . No one ever really talks about how Bruce's passion for martial arts is what really at the end of the day ended his life. Cortozone shots 2-3 times a week for almost three years. The mans body went into adrenial crises from many of the side effects . He couldn't eat at all. He lost so much weight, he looked healthy in return of the dragon. But just wanted to know your view on this matter.

So much hate towards Bruce Lee on here,yes I agree after watching countless Martial movies over the years.Hwang Jan.Hwang In Sek.Benny The Jet they also had great technique and were incredible martial artist.Benny The Jet took part in tournaments so if you want you can say that he was THE REAL DEAL.But Benny The Jet says after seeing Bruce Lee Do a demonstration in the 60’s he considered Bruce Lee to be THE GREATEST MARTIAL ARTIST.IT IS HERE ON RU-vid.So what have the Bruce Lee haters have to say now?So I suppose now they will say that Benny The Jet isn’t anything special now also.And as for criitising Bruce Lee it as become so boring.Why don’t we all just admire the man’s Martial Arts ability irrespective if he proved himself in a tournament or not.How many Martial Arts in real life in a threatening situation where there life was in jeopardy could actually defend themselves with 2 to 3 people threatening to attack them with a knife?Tournament is tournament and doesn’t have any bearing on true self defence.

That's true, bruce lee was the one who puts martial arts culture on the map trough movies.But What's wrong about bruce lee is that people during the 70s and 80s thought that kung fu is magic superior martial art and what's shown in the movies goes in reality .Nowdays the martial arts culture is all about muay thai, boxing , bjj, wrestling ,sambo etc.Today nobody Don't care about kung fu cuz in numerous occasion kung fu failed to prove its 'magic' superiority.That's the only thing What's bugging me over bruce lee, nobody from his branch Didn't not prove that his jkd or kung-fu works against train fighters.REMBER in the first ufc almost everything was legal, even groin kicks, elbows to the back of the head, stomps,even hair pulling .But in the finals we had gordeau vs gracie. If you watch bloodsport from the 80s the movie has the same pattern as enter the dragon, there's no grapplers and kumite is allegedly nhb (only thing in bloodsport that was realistic was when paulo thoca brutalized some kung-fu guys with his muay thai). So he definitely was a great inspiration for many martial artists/fighters and he also was great martial arts enthusiast,but he has nothing to do with ufc fatherhood and he definitely was not what average people think.

Did Bruce Lee know how to wrestle or grapple? Or was he the best just in striking.
@dunringill1747
@dunringill1747 4 года назад
The short answer is 'Yes'. Long answer: Bruce Lee was obsessed with fighting efficiency. He studied as many forms as he possibly could, (including fighting positions while on the ground because 90% plus of fighting ends up there). Jeet Kune Do was an ever evolving hybrid of styles. Bruce incorporated moves from as many styles as possible into Jeet Kune Do. Any move he found to be more efficient within a specific situation, Bruce would reject the old move never to be practiced again. He would then practice, study, and teach the superior move as a part of Jeet Kune Do.

Gene Lebell taught him grappling, but if he saw how effective the bij methods, he would have learned front the Gracies. People say he was unique in that if he learn a technique, next time u meet him, he’ll do it better than the person who taught him. Perfection is his motto.

@@kbreeze6969 I really think they’d be taking lessons from Bruce not the other way around. Bruce would probably say how limited bjj actually is and not advocate it’s use in a real life or death situation. It’s not efficient or direct. You put yourself in multiple vulnerable positions trying to execute any sort of bjj technique.

Because lot of you believe you know everything but you indeed don't know nothing... Bruce Lee had at least one real fight with a karate master, Yoichi Nakachi. Also, we know Bruce Lee sparred with karate experts, and we know what karate experts said about him… In 1960 at age 19, Bruce fought Yoichi Nakachi, a Japanese black belt in Karate and Judo. Yoichi had pursued Bruce for weeks, wanting a match, and they had finally agreed to fight on a handball court at a local YMCA. Ed Hart timed the fight, which lasted just 22 seconds. (According to Doug Palmer the actual time was 11 seconds but Hart doubled it, not wanting to embarrass Yoichi!). Bruce hit Yoichi with a flurry of punches, then kicked him in the head, knocked him out cold, and fractured his skull. Yoichi ended up in the hospital. "This guy was a black belt in Karate and Judo," said Jesse Glover, Lee's first student. "He was fast, and his technique was excellent." The Japanese fighter arrived in his all-white karate gi with a black sash around his waist. Lee wore street clothes. Yoichi assumed a karate stance. Lee stood with his hands at his sides. Yoichi threw a kick. Lee parried it, then all hell broke loose. "Bruce straight punched the guy, landing punch after punch, all the way across the room," recalls Ed Hart. "The guy was punching back, but his punches just weren't getting there. He came off the wall and tried to grab Bruce, but Bruce spun him and hit him with both hands - one in the face and the other in the chest - and the guy flew through the air and landed on the floor on one knee." Lee closed the distance rapidly, then launched a front kick that ending up flush on Yoichi’s face with such force that he flipped over backward, ending up on his chest. "I hollered, 'Stop!' Glover says, "and the guy was out cold. He looked like he was dead." Most of Bruce Lee’s other interactions with Karate experts were more of the sparring variety. And we know what Karate experts who sparred and trained with Bruce said about him… Chuck Norris won six consecutive middleweight Karate championships and opened a chain of Karate schools, but he became a student of Bruce Lee. Norris told Black Belt, “The truth is Lee was a formidable opponent with a chiselled physique and technique… Lee was lightning fast, very agile and incredibly strong for his size.” There is a 1973 handwritten letter from Chuck Norris to Bruce Lee, on Norris’s official letterhead, in which Norris admitted that he was a student of Bruce Lee and said it was a privilege to learn from him. I take the letter to be a lame apology for Norris making public statements in which he tried to make himself out to be Lee’s equal or superior and said they were training together rather than Lee teaching him. Other people may have different interpretations of the letter, but it leaves no doubt that Norris was Lee’s student and that he learned from him in a student-teacher relationship. Here is the letter, followed by a photograph of the handwritten letter on Norris’s stationary. The original letter is in the possession of Dan Inosanto and can be viewed at the Inosanto Academy of Martial Arts in Marina Del Rey, California. “Dear Bruce, Just a note to wish you great success on the movie and to clarify any misinterpretations you have heard about our training together. I have told hundreds of people I have trained with you. My ego is not such that I am ashamed of it. It was a privilege learning from you. One thing I never do is mention you in the same breath with Kung Fu. I mention you as a master of the Martial Arts because of your proficiency in all of them, so I always say you are a master of your own Art. Anyway that is enough of that. Bruce, I hope 1973 is a great year for you and give my regards to Linda and the kids. Take care, Chuck” William Cheung said Bruce Lee defeated Chuck Norris and that Norris became Lee’s student after he was defeated. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who took lessons from Bruce Lee, said that when Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee sparred, Norris’s face look like an apple. Mike Stone was nicknamed the “Animal” and he won a record 91 consecutive matches in Karate tournaments. Mike Stone also became a student of Bruce Lee. Joe Lewis was nicknamed “the Muhammad Ali of Karate” and has been called "the greatest Karate fighter of all time." But he too became a student of Bruce Lee. Herb Jackson said the great Joe Lewis “couldn’t touch” Lee when they sparred. According to Jake May, in an online discussion, Dan Inosanto told friends that he witnessed Joe Lewis and Bruce Lee spar and Joe was helpless to hit Bruce. And Joe seemed to confirm this himself… Joe Lewis, voted by top fighters and promoters as the greatest karate fighter of all time, was awed by Lee’s speed and ability. During a video demonstration of Lee’s speed punch, Lewis that he couldn’t hit Bruce with it because he went into “zen mode” and “you couldn’t hit him with a bullet, he was so fast.” The great Joe Lewis admitted that he was unable to hit Bruce. I have placed a link to the video at the bottom of this page. In a video Joe Lewis said, “He had blinding speed, especially with his hands.” Joe Lewis has a video on RU-vid titled “What Bruce Lee Taught Me.” Now he teaches others what Bruce Lee taught him. Why would all-time great martial artists like Joe Lewis, Chuck Norris and Mike Stone seek training from someone who “was not a fighter”? It makes no sense to say that Bruce Lee was “just an actor.” Expert witness testimony is accepted in courts, but Bruce Lee’s detractors deny the testimony of experts and ignore other evidence when they claim he was “just a celebrity” and “not really a fighter.” Again, why would the greatest martial artists of his era go to Bruce Lee for training, if he wasn’t a great martial artist and a great fighter? That would be like going to Sylvester Stallone for boxing lessons - it makes no sense whatsoever. From what I understand, Chuck Norris studied under Bruce Lee for two years. Surely great martial artists would have recognized if their teacher didn’t know more than they did, and would have canceled the lessons as a waste of time and money. As noted in the comments by Esosa: “All these guys, including Norris and Lewis, paying him his due as the real deal, what more do ya want? I mean, I’m a karateka myself and I know about their humongous egos. So if these guys were willing to train under Lee…?” In the comments Dave Owens observed: “A buddy of mine is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He later went on to study Lee's Jeet Kune Do. He said it's the difference between tiddly winks and chess.” Dave later added: “He summed it up in that Bruce Lee took every single martial art attack from every discipline and then he figured out a counter for each one. It resembles nothing else. There aren't too many Jeet Kun Do studios because it's so stinking hard to master! You just about have to get a black belt in each discipline before you can even be a white belt in JKD.” It also bears noting that Bruce Lee’s detractors have a timing problem. They make it sound as if Lee had no martial arts credentials and that, after his death, other martial artists tried to “piggyback” on his fame as an actor. But that makes no sense because the best-known martial artists studied under Bruce Lee before he became famous for his movies. If they had all piggybacked after the fact, the detractors might have a case, but Chuck Norris, Joe Lewis and Mike Stone became students of Lee’s after his demonstrations at the 1967 Long Beach Tournament, based on what Lee was doing in the martial arts world, not on his future fame in martial arts movies, which was unknowable at the time. Jim Kelly won Karate tournaments and he, too, trained under Bruce Lee. Jim Kelly said Bruce Lee was: "Untouchable" "the Michael Jordan of martial arts" "the Greatest" "a level above everybody else" Hayward Nishioka was a Judo and Karate expert who told John Little that Bruce Lee was “on a different level” and that “you couldn’t grab him.” Tsutomu Ohshima, the great sensei, observed that Bruce Lee made Japanese karateka look foolish. Mitoshi Uyehara, the founder of Black Belt Magazine, told John Little than “none of them [the other martial artists he knew] were at Bruce Lee’s level.” Bruce Lee performed demonstrations at the George Dillman Karate Institute in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1967. George Dillman, a karate instructor and Muhammad Ali bodyguard, later admitted that he was unable to compare with Bruce. They sparred and Dillman was unable to hit Lee. Skipper Mullins was a Karate expert who was friends with Joe Lewis. Mullins taught martial arts in the Marines and also to FBI agents. He won seven championships and had a career tournament record of around 1,100 wins with only 15 losses. According to his brother Dan Mullins, Skipper Mullins said that he would choose Bruce Lee in any street confirmation and that Lee was a phenomenal martial artist. Bruce Lee did demonstrations at the 1967 Long Beach International Karate Tournament, which was hosted by Ed Parker, a Karate master who taught Karate to Elvis Presley. During his demonstrations at the Long Beach Karate Tournament, Bruce Lee beat Dan Inosanto in an exhibition match (which was recorded). Inosanto later became a Bruce Lee student. Jim Kelley recalled Bruce beating everyone, and the participants included names like Chuck Norris, Joe Lewis, Jhoon Goo Rhee, Ed Parker, Vic Moore and himself. As further evidence we have the fact that some of the biggest names in martial arts soon became students of Bruce’s after the Long Beach Tournament. In September 1967, Bruce Lee began training martial arts champion Mike Stone. In October 1967, Chuck Norris became a student of Bruce Lee. In January 1968, Bruce began giving private lessons to Karate champion Joe Lewis.
