A little arrangement of the classic Springsteen song. Using a Fender Custom Shop Chicago Special. Only available at Chicago Music Exchange. Using Roland street cube and a Shure MV88 mic into iPhone.
Hey Rick, you've gotta be the man with the right connections... get Bruce to see this.... Wouldn't it be fantastic if Mr. Murphy was a guest performer for The Boss on stage! Just sayin' I have faith in you!
His touch, the dynamics, the nuance… it sounds like Bruce is singing the song. This is tremendous. It’s perfect. 10/10 only because you can’t be more perfect than perfect. Wow.
For anyone interested in understanding it a little better: He posted on IG that it was in open E-tuning with the exception of the high b-string being tuned down to F#. That's how he gets that one particular harmonic. (No clue how he got that idea! Please correct me if I'm wrong). That should help people understand his left hand a little more. Your posts are amazing Nathaniel!
Thanks David! You are correct. A big priority was getting the harmonics to ring out for as long as possible as they were mimicking the keyboard part of the song. However, with the B string being tuned down so low, it was nigh on impossible for it to stay in tune due to the gauge of the string. For this one, I actually got a tech at the store to put on a G string where the B would normally be and just tuned that to F#. Worked well but had intonation issues if you listen carefully you might be able to hear it.
I got to the open E tuning and kept trying to play along. Huge thanks for the clarification. Such a beautiful tune, played with such passion and clear sense of purpose. Cheers!
Looking at the tens of thousands of dollars worth of gear I have and realizing he’s playing a Roland street cube is one hell of a perspective check. Killer playing sir
This is just outstanding! The song is one of my favorites and this version is nothing short of spectacular. I could drive across the US with this on repeat. Thank you! 🙏🤘 Shane Sully
