As soon as i read the news I remembered this weird interview. Now we know why he behaved like this. Is really sad to know that he struggled for so long
@@Pik871229 we just assumed Bruce was being quirky..it may be an early symptom or maybe just his laid back nature..I think now people, including me may view it as onset of problems..but you would have to know him to know that..I was surprised when he said what he said because they are tightly contracted to only say positive stuff for the duration of promotion of a new film..I wish him well as Die Hard was a great part of the 80s and our youth..so it's sad to see Brice get older as do we all
Bruce is worth over 300 million dollars. Needless to say, he’ll receive the best medical care money can buy. We could all be as lucky. My father is showing early signs of something similar but he’s 89. The progression is very sudden and then you realize all those times in the last years or decade, in some cases, that it was something insidious lurking rather than just a moment of confusion. Life greets the world with such beauty and exits with such cruelty.
I’ve worked with stroke patients for quite awhile in my early days, and this is EXACTLY what they sound like during or after a mini stroke or TIA. His aphasia has been going on WAY LONGER than people thought.
Yep. My wife is actually the RN in charge of an Alzheimer’s and dementia unit. She sees this kind of thing on a daily basis. It IS a scary thing to go through.
Yes there was an interview from nine years ago and when asked if he ever bought his own movies on vhs or dvd, he said yes on laserdisc. When asked which one, he said “the River...the river movie...the one with the hat” finally was able to say striking distance and then pursed his lips and looked down, seemingly frustrated that he couldn’t name it
he's in his late 50s here. early onset dementia hit him while he was still in his prime. this is horrible. i really hope he has access to the best healthcare and can be wrapped up in love and comfort during this next stage. how scary this must be for his loved ones.
My dad died of early-onset Alzheimer's. This doesn't look like dementia to me. He's not struggling for words, as much as spouting them out almost nonsensically. What's being reported is damage to language centers in the brain, most likely due to a stroke. Both are devastating, but two very different things.
The thing is the male presenter here used to be on a kids TV show named 'blue peter' which is a government funded programme all about inclusivity and awareness, especially for those with disabilities. He does actually seem like he doesn't know how to react.
Bruce was/is one of the greatest ever, I wish him and his family well andI hope the rest of his life is as comfortable and filled with joy as possible.
The guy at 0:23 clearly knew what was going on and didn't find that funny. And this was 10 years ago! Imagine what it must be like now for Bruce Willis! Gosh, this is so sad 😔 Why cruel things like that happen to such nice people? Why did it have to happen to a nice and lovely guy like Bruce Willis?
@@oscaru5342you took the words out my mouth 👄 it always shocks me when you see people in the comments saying this and that person was so sweet, lovely, and caring !!! I'm sorry I didn't know that you knew these celebrities personally , you know his character on screen not him . Knock it off 😂😂😂😂
All makes sense now and the run of B-movies. I just thought he liked making loads of shit B-movies for $1m for a days filming, but he was earning legacy money for his kids.
The first time I say this I thought he was drunk now it was a medical condition now I feel bad. Hope the best for u Bruce, Die Hard will always be one of my best actions movies. 👍
In another interview he told that it was because of the jetlag, no rest and also was boring, have you ever feel like you're so tired that reality starts to blend with nosense dreaming? i've experienced that
i feel for him though, sitting in that sofa with those giggling muppets getting asked about the title that someone else decided on must be really, really boring.
What else could they do even the crowd standing in the studio looked confused and baffled you had to laugh. He was off his rocker another muppet of the mind control Hollywood. Only fools cant see it and blame others for his behaviour. His brain is jelly.
Now these conspiracy theorist can stop with all the mind control stories, and him being deprogrammed SMH. His Aphasia diagnosis is heartbreaking. I hope he will get recognized at the Oscars next year.
Yeah, cuz the one thing conspiracy theorists are known for is trusting official reports, right? LMAO, Kolleen with a K. Did your sentence actually make sense in your head?
I wonder when his condition really started to manifest. Looking at his Filmography, he did his first Direct-to-DVD-Thrillers in 2011 but he was in Mainstream-fare after that: In 2012, he was in Moonlight Kingdom, Expendables 2 and Looper. In 2013, he did RED2, A Good Die to die Hard and GI-Joe: Retaliation. Soon after that, he started doing B-Movies and that was all he did until his retirement (with few exceptions). I think he did his first VOD-Flicks (in 2011) because these were a relatively easy way to make money. But when the Aphasia made thing more difficult for him, these kind of projects were the only films he could still participate in.
probably around 2011 his symptoms started to get worse. they say for example that in the expendables movies he was struggling to remember his lines and needed someone to guide him.
Aphasia takes years to manifest and I bet it was some form of open secret in Hollywood. Some have feared the dementia may have been started by a head injury Willis recieved while filming Tears Of The Sun (2003), in which Willis was accidently hit in the forehead with some sort of high-rate projectile. He sued the studio and spoke of intense migrane headaches that impacted his work and personal life, and many people close to him recall that he complained of headaches for years. Kevin Smith spoke about how picky and specific Willis was on Cop Out (2010), and he got into a lot of arguements with Stallone on The Expendables (2010) due to his demands. By Glass (2018), people mentioned that Willis would aimlessly wander around set and needed asssistants to constantly guide him and remind him of what he was supposed to be doing. Many scenes needed to be scrapped or filmed with body doubles since Willis could not do them. An anonymous "close friend" stated that they had noticed a decline in Willis's social abilities about a decade prior to his public diagnosis, but things took a hard downward spiral around 2018. His daughter, Tallulah Willis, seems to mention that her dad went from being a fun guy and became quiet, unattentive, easily irritable, and very forgetful around 2006-2008, but did not realize the severity of his illness until 2021, when he could not remember her wedding. Around that time, director Mikes Burns witnessed how bad Willis had degraded mentally and forced him to turn down several movies. Willis retired the next year.
@@JotaShank Yes, though it's been awhile since I've seen 12 monkeys, so I can't recall names... At the Dr/shrinks book signing, the main antagonistic (played by David Morse) approaches her with her book for a signature and she's just half paying attention to him as he says (I'm paraphrasing, here) "have a sandwich is maybe the cry of the true lunatic". In this Willis interview they ask Bruce WHAT the title "Good Day to Die Hard", means (it obv means to "die while having an erection" as psychopaths enjoy gun fights that much) and says "have a sandwich" and "let's go shopping" as an esoteric insult. He's calling the interviewers "truly insane", and knows he can't explain what "Dying _hard_ " actually means, in any case.
@@JotaShank My question would be: why did the host play coy and ask him this question? All Hollywood insiders understand the occult symbols. Also, just how crazy/sick would a man (David Morse's character) have to be to say what he said (to Stowe's character)? Is he in some delusional set where he believes that the Doc understands him? Or is he mocking her ignorance on psychology? Idk
Sadly. This was the first interview I thought about when the news was announced. Sad for Bruce. All those people taking the piss because he would do two days work and have his lines read to him in an ear piece. Well now we know why.
With his disease it was like he thought he was talking to his wife or something. Like he thought he was saying something to her. But then he snapped back and remembered what he was doing. I agree that it was funny but it was also sad. Like a sad/funny moment. Like a joke at a funeral.
so tragic & also annoying that they’re sneering at this poor gentleman. originally it was suspected ‘jet lag’ but now we all know; thoughts & prayers go out to you bruno 🙏
Having seen the entire interview, this clip is taken out of context. He’s referencing his difficulty with the title throughout the interview, and the shopping comment is a reference to an earlier discussion about an actual asteroid coming. No doubt he has the disease, but this clip is not what it seems.
He didn't help matters by turning in one of his most disinterested low energy stale performances of his career. I rematchd this abomination of a movie yesterday and by god he's terrible in it. Completely the opposite of his portrayal in the first 3 movies. He should never have signed off on that script in the first place.
@@S-A-M. is that the excuse now? For over 10 years of terrible movies and performances, it's okay now bcos he was ill? Do we know how long he's been ill for? If your ill you usually stop going to work, especially if the work is of a very low standard.
@@S-A-M. if the illness was showing symptoms 10 years ago then yes it explains alot but we don't really know when the illness took hold. Either way it doesn't excuse his often rude obnoxious behaviour.
@@rudisbua2151 they’re not saying he does i think they’re comparing the two scenarios. How people thinks he goofing around but it might be the aphasia same way ppl thought she was drunk but it was akzheimers
People putting this down to his aphasia are talking out of their hat. This was long before the aspasia manifested. He was always an awkward man of few words in interviews. I don't know why he bothered doing them.
I have an autoimmune diease that attacks my brain and CNS. No one knows what it feels like on the inside of it. I almost died but there are meds that control the immune response. I hope that such a treatment comes soon for Bruce and those that suffer from this diease. There is much research taking place in this space including in BCI's to help those that have lost there ability to communicate as well as other ways that technology (like with nanomedicine/nanobots) that will soon revolutionize medicine and, in particluar, neuroscience. I know he's still there, as I was, and so I will choose hope and hold it in my heart for him. He's given us all many wonderful moments both touching and oh so very funny over the years. I'm holding a good thought for you, dear Bruce, and your lovely family. ❤
Apart from the obvious fact that afasia is a terrible disease, I'll be honst with you- I think that 'Have a sandwich and let's go shopping' seems like a perfect answer to any question.
I was there they cut that episode off, they turned the cameras off because he started talking nonsense and his eyes were rolling in his head. Four guys immediately ran on the stage and carried Willis away
This was sad to watch. Did he have this condition back then already, in 2013? Why didn't the doctors tell him about it back then instead of years later?
I'm sure him and his doctor/doctors have known something was going on for awhile now. I think he just decided to keep his diagnosis private until recently.
@@jizzyjake6783 Yeah, I guess. Especially because he is still a big name and attracts millions to movies he stars in. Now, at the age of 67 he and his family decided it was time for him to retire. I frankly hope he's got lots of years left. Not necessarily professionally starring in more movies, but to spend time with his loved ones. Sad for all his fans though, as well as for his family.
Man I was so excited for "Glass" when it came out and did enjoy it, but really did wonder WTH was up with Bruce Willis's somewhat "sub-par" performance (like the way he recited some of his lines were just like someone reading off a piece of paper without any emotion etc.) , all these things and interviews like this one finally made sense when they revealed his disease, so sad. It also says a lot about how much drive and passion he had for the industry that he still had the strength to persist with making numerous movies (a lot of times with an earpiece to feed him his lines).
His daughter just announced he's retiring because of a neurolical condition called aphasia 😔 means there's damage to the portion of the brain that controls communication. I applaud him for sticking around for as long as he did
How sad, there's a tv show making fun of this moment, "when films go horribly wrong" it's horrible to see this. When you know he couldn't find the words cus of his illness
