I really enjoy seeing the secrets of the practice session of an artist. I don't know any other artist that is as open, brave and generous in this respect. It must be very educational, useful and enlightening to other violinists who follow you. Brilliant!

there are videos of violin greats practicing. it’s just that they’re really in tune so their practice sessions are basically them working on the musicality.

Very nice video, thank you for sharing! If you see a pro playing on stage, it looks all so easy that noone can imagine what insane hard work has been invested to make it sound like this... memorizing a whole concert without running into the wrong direction later is also some kind of magic. I'm happy when I was able to memorize a few lines.

you’re doing great. just keep practicing those runs, you’re like me. i’m such a profectionist that i gotta listen to my shifts right in tune and bowings too. try doing that passage without vibrato then 2 finger octives, plus try and stand straight when playing. really listen to your shifts, the way you lift and catch the bow and lift it off certain passages too. especially this part i’m listening to now where you’re in b flat a little bit during the first moovement. love the trills, very slowly practice them then do them faster.

I always wonder if professional violinist / soloist continue with lessons from someone after graduating from Juilliard / Royal School of Music or wherever with a Bachelors or Masters degree. Are they completely on their own to learn new music and prepare for new performances where the stakes are so high to not screw up AT ALL !! ? Seems like an immense amount of pressure to me. NO ONE knows everything or is completely prepared after graduation from any school. Would love to have Esther make a video explaining how professional musicians further their expertise after graduation and performing in the 'real world'. I am not dissing her at all, but I would really like to know how they continue to hone their craft. I mean watching these practice sessions is interesting and all, but she is going to be playing that music in front of hundreds of paying people who would not be the least bit understanding of anything less than an epic performance, every time. - No Pressure !! - Does she not have anybody to help her learn this music ??

These gems of practice videos with such a great violinist have an immense educational value! They’re extremely inspirational and motivational. Finally, students and laypeople are shown what it takes, the amount of dedication, perfectionism...totally the opposite of the woke culture of results with no effort. Thank you Esther for your generosity and dedication!

I am currently playing this piece. You should aim to play all 3 strings at once by dropping your bow onto the middle string and catching the two other strings. However, you can roll a little to make sure you catch all three strings.
