Max Bruch:
Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op. 26 (with Score)
Composed: 1866 (revision 1867)
Violin: Itzhak Perlman
Orchestra: Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra
Conductor: Bernard Haitink
00:00 1. Vorspiel: Allegro moderato (in G minor)
08:25 2. Adagio (in E-flat major)
17:01 3. Finale: Allegro energico (in G major)
Max Bruch (1838 - 1920) was a German Romantic composer, teacher, and conductor who wrote over 200 works, including three violin concertos, the first of which has become a staple of the violin repertoire.
Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op. 26, is one of the most popular violin concertos in the repertoire and along with the Scottish Fantasy, the composer's most famous work.
The concerto was first completed in 1866 and the first performance was given on 24 April 1866 by Otto von Königslow, with Bruch conducting. The concerto was then considerably revised with help from celebrated violinist Joseph Joachim and completed in its present form in 1867. The premiere of the revised concerto was given by Joachim in Bremen on 5 January 1868, with Karl Martin Rheinthaler conducting.

An absolutely incredible rendition of my first concerto. And since I’ve misplaced my score, this is perfect.

It's quite evident, and always was, that pizzicati in celli and basses, at the beginning of the 1rst movement, sounds like a heart beat...

That section may well be the best Tutti there is in classical music. First time I ever heard this concert I was like: Who is Bruch? Now when someone mentions his name I hum this exact part.

That is the EXACT passage that made me sit up and think, "This is the most excited I've been for a piece in FOREVER."

6:07 has such an intense emotional shift. Reminds me of a hero being beat down and that all hope seems lost. A beautifully written part for this concerto.
