That would be the Hill family home 32 Parkside Mill Hill London, I suppose. I wish the council would re name the road "Graham Hill". Graham was my boyhood F1 hero. Fiercely competitive on track, a party animal off duty, yet an English gentleman at other times. I seem to remember a documentary. Betty Hill recalled a noisy party at the the Hill's home, two constables arrived following complaints. In short order the Police officers were handed glasses of beer by Graham and they stayed some time.

@@russcattell955i I love listening to Graham Hill on the 1962 Nurburgring Shell documentary where Hermann Lang is driving the old W125 around it and where Graham is commentating casually almost dying going off on oil through a ditch and miraculessly ending up back on the track! Also, Graham is the only driver ever to nail the Big 4 of Motorsports - WDC title (62&68), Indy 500 (66?), Monaco GP winner and Le Mans winner!

I’d love to see something much more extensive than this, if possible. Totally understand these segments have to be short for the broadcasts, but a longer version when uploaded would be wonderful. Seeing these guys tell the stories of and then drive these incredible cars is always excellent.

Seeing Damon in this old car makes me think of all the times he missed with his Dad. He was only 11 when his Dad died. Them being so like minded, I just can't help but think of all the times they missed together. It makes me sad to think about it.

@@eamonahern7495 I would have SWORN I heard him say he was 11 when his Dad died a few years back on Skype but I must be mistaken because I just looked it up and you're right, he was 15 when Graham died. He must have mentioned age 11 for something else and I've mixed it up somehow. Getting old is tough. 😉

@@beachcottage3740 He was a gent, I met him at Brands Hatch during a testing session in 1988. He kept a very low profile for some time, he then went out on track and blew all the modern riders away. I wondered who this person was as I watched him from the pits, he rode back took his helmet off and there he was. We a short conversation, what a cool guy he was. RIP the ultimate racing person of all time. I can’t see his record ever being beaten.

Great video, thank you! I can never quite believe how magnanimous Damon is about Michael Schumacher! Yes Schumacher was a fantastic driver, but he was extremely ruthless and he took Hill out in Adelaide to win a championship in what still looks like a calculated move. So much respect for Damon!

von Trips’s death surely must rank as one of if not THE most tragic of F1 fatalities in history. To lose both his life and the F1 World Championship at the same time and with the spectators who died with him was truly awful 😢

Phil Hill was a deserving winner of the championship that year. He could have sown it up during the French GP, but had a spin when leading well, and lost his position. That win would have put him well ahead of von Trips in points. Regarding Monza, it was von Trips who made the fatal error of cutting off Jim Clark, causing the 2 cars to collide. It was his 3rd and final big crash at Monza.

Every time I see a "classic" race car, I can't stop thinking about the courage and the talent of those drivers! I had the opportunity to admire a lot of F1 and sportcars at Ferrari Museum and when you look at them, you are first shocked by their beauty and then you realize how much these cars were dangerous! Small, lightweight, super powered and with no protection at all!

Ah! The 1.5 liter era of 1961 to 1965 might be my favorite era for F1. Yes, it ended around the time I was born, but I’ve studied that era extensively. Watching the Glover Trophy race at the Goodwood revival is always a treat. I would love to see a modern formula along those lines; updated for safety, maybe 2000cc. Road racers in pure form.

Von Trips didn't beleave that Jim Clark was so fast with his poor Climax and that he was just behind him, ready to overtake him before Parabolica curve. he was slipstreaming the Ferrari. Jimmy was very lucky this day.

I'd love to see a retro-technical video, where someone goes in depth, showing us all the technical details of old racing cars like these... Or, even some closer shots of these cars, comparing the different engines or any other of the small differences between them. Before viewing this video I knew nothing about the old shark-nose Ferrari cars (I'm in my mid 20's, for context), but now I'd like to learn more about them. They look so beautiful...

I began attending Formula One races in 1964 so I never saw one of these cars race but I did see ones not much more sophisticated run and these fellows weren't kidding when they said those drivers had guts! I actually saw Graham Hill race twice...his son looks a lot like his dad.

My interest in racing and cars in general was supercharged when I saw the cover of Road & Track for Jan. 1962 with Phil Hill in the cockpit of one of these. I was thrilled that there was an American World Champion. I still have that issue, hidden for years in a box of magazines in the garage!

You can see how the air-intake at the front helps the car hug the corners. aerodynamics there and they tested to see which form of it works best. That is the foundation of modern F1!

It's so interesting how the drivers have changed attitude towards each other the safer the sport gets. I highly doubt you'd see a whole bunch of drivers at another drivers kids christening these days. Their off track comradery was so much stronger back then

In those days there were drivers killed every year, so the drivers did not try stupid manoeuvres of the kind Hamilton and Verstappen do every race, the cars are so much safer now, that driver safety is not a consideration to some.

Enzo Ferrari, after a disastrous 1962 season, ordered the cars cut up, so no original 156 exists. These are the only two replicas; one was built for a film about von Trips, the other by an enthusiast. Both are based on actual 156 engines and transmissions, built as close to the real ones as possible. They are both works of passion, and watching Martin and Damon drive them made my day complete

These were recreated by Setford and Company for owner and enthusiast Jason Wright, using original engines and other original parts, and then the rest painstakingly recreated from drawings and photos.

The Limit, a book by Michael Cannell, covers this period of motor racing in great detail, and is a very enjoyable read. It sounds like Martin Brundle and Damon Hill had just been reading the same book. Incidently, in 1961, Phil Hill had the French GP almost won, and stupidly spun, losing his large lead. That win would have secured the championship, rather than having it come down to a couple of points difference at Monza.

Hill finally driving a Ferrari 😍 Back in 1994 when Damon was battling Micheal, as a Ferrari fan I had chosen him as my favorite for the world title, being “the Cavallino” out of the game as usual. I was very happy for him in 1996. His (and his dad’s) helmet has always been one of my favorire if not my preferred one along Senna’s.

Taffy was killed cause Jim Clark hit him on the side going into Parabollica. But since Jim was a rising star and became a legend who died himself in 1968, that part was glossed over in history. Just like how Mike Hawthorn out of the pits in Le Mans 1955, torpedoed Macklins car, which helplessly ended in front of Levegh who flew into the crowd killing 80+. But Hawthorn died in 1959 in a public road crash so it was glossed over too.

Fun fact . Had Taffy not perished in that crash , he was booked for a flight to America after the race that crashed over Scotland . Like Pedro Rodrigues said when asked about the dangers of racing , "when God decides it is your time , it doesn't matter where you are ". There was no way VonTripps would see another day .
