I really enjoy what you share. I have kept rabbits for over 24 years, everything from Angora, Rex, Cashmere Lops to Mini Lops. I still have many rabbits. I do not brush my rabbits at moult time as they detest it. I have always given my rabbits hay in huge amounts EVERYDAY,, like, more hay than rabbit. Hay has the long chain fiber that keeps the gut moving, so.... even if fur is injested, which it is, the massive amounts of hay keep it moving. I have never had a case of wool block ever. This comment is not meant to contradict your advice, just another way of looking things.
This has got to be the absolute SWEETEST litter I have ever seen in my entire life. I couldn't decide which baby was my favourite, and Storm was such a sweetheart
My bunny hates being groomed too… most of the time he is too interested in the brush! When I try to brush his head he just puts his nose to it and sniffs it the whole time! 😂
So lovely to see mama Storm and her babies once again and I love how gentle you are with them, you can tell that those (and the rest of your bunnies) are well looked after and well loved too x
I just brushed my bunny 🐰 today aaaannnndddd... da daadaa - HE HATED IT!! I use the hair buster & I love it 🥰 What helps him is if a put some hay on the table I groom him on (I put a towel down) & some toys because apparently my bunny llikes to toss things when I brush him so I put stacking cups on the table, a teaspoon of pellets & some dried raisins for a after reward 😊 where I get the most hair for my bunny because he’s a Dutch he has like a line where his brown first starts kind on his back/behind area and that’s were I get the most fur out lol 😂
Great video for new bunny owners, brushing is very very important. I've had a lot of experience with bloating rabbits, and it's NOT fun!! Even with a diet of pellets, lots of hay and a few greens my bunnies still seem to bloat , but I know the signs and I know what to do. Thanks for sharing. Hope your bunnies are doing well.❤🐰
I have had good results with using a boar bristle shaving brush. You can get these in the men's section at the pharmacy. They are soft but if you condition the brush then the bristles develop split ends which makes them a magnet for fine rabbit hairs.
So cute! We have the same brush and it does work really well! It is a life saver if you have multiple buns in the house! The amount of hair they shed is not for the faint of heart🤣🐰 Thank you for this wonderful content to start our day!
It was good seeing all the bunnies together again. I bet that comb will work well on my cat's fur. I have a small metal comb without the silicone. I saw that it costs $20, not cheap. 🐇🐾🐱
Yeah, I wish it were cheaper too, but it is so effective (and durable in my experience) that it's a worthy investment. I've wasted a lot of money on cheaper brushes/combs that don't work well too. 🤪
Thank you so much! You have been the best bunny channel so far. Appreciate you sharing your knowledge! How old are lops when their ears officially "lop" : ) Do rabbits ever need water baths or damp cloth baths? I can't see why they would, but wanted to ask. Thank you!
Bunnies are crepuscular, meaning most active early evening and in the morning. They generally sleep late morning through mid-afternoon and off and on through the night, but they are somewhat active during the night, yes.
Okay this explains why my bun is shedding so much fur. He’s about 10 months now. I didn’t know about molting. I’ve been brushing his though, using a cat brush, but was wondering why there was so much
If the bunnies are running away I would recommend brushing them with the brush horizontal to the fur, I find that helps since it does not really poke them :)
Can you make a video on a young rabbits diet transitioning to an adults diet with the ages of when you transition? Thank you for your amazing videos and being a great example of an ethical breeder and giving these bunnies an amazing life!
Around 12 weeks, I transition to Sherwood adult pellets from baby pellets and continue to give a thumb-sized piece of leafy green on occasion as tolerated, working up to a handful of greens by 6 months of age.
Hi Diane we love watching your videos here in the UK. Your bunnies are so well behaved but I'm not surprise as you train them so well. We have a rescue bun that's very difficult to handle never mind brush. He also loves to jump out his pen. Where did you get your fantastic perspex pen from / what brand is it? Thanks very much Simon
Hi Simon. The exercise pen in this video is from Clearly Loved Pets. I have the shorter (27" tall I believe) pen, but I'd recommend their taller version for adult bunnies or good hoppers. :)
Last week I was brushing one of my bunnies (with the same hair buster comb that you have) and soooo much fur was coming out. I then discovered that my bunny had bald spots from the grooming!! 😱 I’ve never had this happen before, so of course I freaked out and stopped grooming him! My bunny seems ok but he’s still trying to regrow the fur in those spots. Have you ever had this happen? My bunny is 1 year old.
I've had what looked like bald spots appear during molts, but upon closer inspection, there is usually very short new fur growing there. I wouldn't be concerned unless it were a lot of bald skin/spots or if there were flakes on the skin (possibly indicating fur mites).
Awesome video. FYI those brushes can be pricey. I got a cheap double row comb off Amazon and wove a thick rubber band through the teeth (idea from a YTchannel) and this works very well for my bunny
Yes, I've tried that myself. It worked decently, but I don't think I had the proper rubber band material. Great idea for those who want a DIY project though! :)
Hi we are about to adopt a mini lop so I have a question is that with they ears some have down loopy ears and some kind of half straight pointy ear we ask the breeder if the ears will drop all the way down and she said it will drop in a year was wondering if it true ? Will it really drop all the way down or stay mid way pointy
Hi , i have a question, my hollandlop is 9 weeks old, i notice small shedding .should or can i brush him. Also whenever i try to move him in siff room in his habbitat he try to be free alot and do struggle so i always have to be really careful . He allows to pet me but not to lyft what should i do, pls suggest thank you.
💖💕🐇🐇🐇🐇🐇💕 /••\ Great advice!!~* Mostly I gently lift away the molting fur. There is new growth that can often be seen beneith it growing in, so it really does lift with ease!!~* 💕🐇🐇🐇🐇🐇💕
One of my bunnies doesn’t even sit still for bribery and it’s getting a bit much now, it’s like every time you touch her with the brush it’s shocking her and she literally won’t sit still for anything. Any ideas anyone?
HELP: Today I came to my rabbit to get her out of her cage and she has blood on her fur, I look closer and her ear is cut open and her back paw is bloody, she scratched her ear and it cut open, what do I do
I would clean the wound, and seek veterinary care if the cut is severe or completely through the edge of an ear to where she might catch it and tear it further.
It is very difficult to brush my bunny boy's tummy area. He will bite or kick his legs when I try to pull him in to my chest to brush his tummy. What do you suggest to make these kind of jumpy bunnies chill?
My four months old bunny (lily) is shedding her baby coat. This was so helpful to know that they have to sed thier bby coat, Andy other one(cotton tail) is molting right now and thier is fur everywhere, go follow them on insta @cottontail_lily
True, but my argument would be that wild rabbits, over thousands of years, demonstrated a "survival of the fittest" concept, with only those with the most keen instincts and robust bodies (i.e. digestive systems) surviving longer than a few seasons. Domestic rabbits are indeed sensitive, for the most part, and definitely benefit from having the loose fur removed. :)
